Don Taylor and Dhaliwal New Sports Talk on CHEK TV
fanfor42 replied to Mackcanuck's topic in Off-Topic General
I'm a huge Don Taylor fan from back in the CKVU days. Congrats on the new show. And for all Canuck fans this is huge! Locally owned and produced without Toronto influence. This will be unique to this market at a time where everything has been centralized into control by T.O. Great news! -

Your comment struck me the wrong way as it is a symptom of what is wrong with this fan base. Hughes has cost us exactly zero goals against tonight. Zero. Yet you have to post how lousy he is defensively. Why? Why do Vancouver fans have to tear down their players until there is nothing left but guys who won't stand up for themselves or want to leave. This is maybe the best player we are ever going to have. Why do you feel you have the right to hack on him and drag him down? Ridiculous fan base that the rest of the league laughs at for exactly this kind of thing. You need to get out there and make something of your life partner and stop getting your kicks by dragging down our best young players. You probably have great abilities if you focus on going for it for yourself instead of sitting back and throwing crap.

I absolutely cannot stand the bogus narrative that Hughes doesn't play good defense. 2nd year player. His partner from last year signed in Calgary. Hamonic was injured for most of the first 17 games of the season. During that time Hughes had to play with a rotation of different players including a huge dollop of Benn. He went into negative territory on plus minus. But played 24 minutes a night against the other team's best players. The Canucks went 6 and 11 during their first 17 games. This was not all Hughes fault for any of you keyboard cowboys who want to hack on him. Since the first 17 games Hughes is minus one in the next 18 games. Minus one! He has finally got to play with Hamonic nightly. He is still top 5 scoring in the league for Dmen. Anyone who wants to say that Hughes is a lousy defensive defenseman needs to give their head a bloody shake.

Get real. He makes great defensive plays all game long. You don't have a clue about hockey do you? The guy plays 24 minutes a night in all situations mostly against the top players on the other team. Get a grip. Nobody on the team has a tougher assignment while also being expected to be a top 3 scoring defenseman in the entire league. Keep your bogus opinions on Hughes to yourself buddy!

If you focus on Virtanen for the entire shift you can see what he does. Of course it is more obvious live. But if you watch him on tv and let your eyes just follow him it is a real eye opener. He doesn't seem to know how to play a complete shift and spends a lot of time standing still. Look, I don't dislike the guy. I've never been one of the people who hacks on him. I just think people should watch him shift over shift and follow him around on the ice with their own eyes to see what is going on. Just follow him throughout his shifts. Just watch what he does. Ignore the puck and just watch what Jake does. It is a mystery why he still plays this way so far into his career.

I think of the old New West Bruins and the fact that they made a name for themselves by punching people. Yes the old days are over but look, it was Toffoli who embarassed us for a number of games and I personally loved that it was Virtanen who punched him in the head.

Does Benn make the team that much better by playing third pairing with Myers instead of OJ? Benn is an ok vet. A little slow but serviceable. Meanwhile OJ doesn't play and doesn't develop. IMO OJ looked good in his 15 games and the cost to the team's competitiveness in playing him 10 to 12 minutes a game over Benn I think is negligible. Benn likely doesn't return next year. Edler turns 35 in April of this year. Is OJ gonna sit on the taxi squad for the rest of the year and not play meaningful games until we are eliminated? What is the thinking? Come next year don't we want OJ to be hitting his stride having played well this year and be ready to go to start next? It's Green's choice, but really the downside of giving OJ games over Benn seems to be so little it makes me wonder what goes on in Green's head. Doesn't he think that next year if he is here he will wish OJ was further along? It's not like nobody thinks OJ is going to play here. Everyone knows he is part of the future. Why delay his development to have Benn play every game instead? Man. Smh.

Lind drafted #33 overall. Had 87 points in the WHL his draft year and 95 in D+1. In the AHL he has been progressing from.33 points per game in first year to .66 next to 1.0 in his third year (granted a small sample size of games so far this year). Anyway the point is this guy has a very good chance of developing into an impact player in the NHL. His ELC is up this year so next year he won't be able to be sent down without clearing waivers. As such he likely gets a real look here next year. JB. Do not expose this guy to the Seattle ED! (Hate to lose someone like Mac but Lind may have some real future upside).
