  1. Finish in the 9 spot for drafting. Win the lottery and draft 1st!
  2. Both 5 10. Both American. However Rafalski was never drafted and didnt play in the nhl until he was 26 so major difference there.
  3. No its not. The point being made is that Pettersson now makes Vancouver a destination of choice for high end UFAS. A winger getting to play with Pettersson has a chance to put up big numbers. Tavares signed with Toronto and Stamkos re-sign ed with Tampa before Petey ever played a game here. It's a valid point to consider now that the kid looks like a future Hart contender and can make any wingman have career years if it's a fit.
  4. Benning said today McEwen is on deck to be called next injury Canucks have. He was switched to wing this year and has been great in Utica. Really looking forward to seeing him in a nux uni. Could be a guy who blows the doors off his chance.
  5. I'm not so sure he's done yet Look he can't be sent to the AHL as he would most certainly be claimed on waivers. The only way to send him messages is to bench him. My hunch is they are taking the opportunity while petey is out to send a message to Goldy. When petey comes back Goldy will likely get another chance to play with him. He has looked good at times earlier in the year with pettersson and I expect they want another look before giving up.
  6. Do you really believe that Bo is a slam dunk if Petey does what I said? Don't twist it. I'm saying it is really interesting that there is a debate now. If pettersson does all 3 things the debate will grow. That's what I said. Jeez people need to read with comprehension. As for Bos gaffes look it up. Lots said on the subject. Again don't read more into it. I simply stated he's made some questionable statements which is a true fact. I'm not predicting here. I'm simply saying it is interesting that the debate is actually brewing now. Got it?
  7. I find it really interesting that there is a real debate here. In the offseason Horvat was the concensus choice hands down. But he has shown some questionable leadership a few times this year. And here's a what if. What if Petey wins the Calder and winds up a Hart finalist this year? What if he scores 80+ points? Hmm. Not a slam dunk for Bo at that point..
  8. Only 25 goalies in the nhl have played at least 20 games. So he's 18th and 20th out of 25. If you compare his stats vs goalies who have played at least 10 games he's like 37th.
  9. Benning has made 5 first round picks. Pettersson fantastic pick. Boeser fantastic pick. Hughes TBD but looks like fantastic pick. So the next two get compared to the 3 huge wins above. Tough. That leaves Virtanen and Juolevi. VIRTANEN is growing every month! Odds are he may not be the best Benning could have taken at 5 but will be a very solid player and fill a role the team definitely needs. The there's Juolevi. Jury is out. Injuries and slow development vs Tkachuk Sergachev and others as alternatives. I think in time Juolevi will still pan out as a solid 2 or 3 defenseman. But. He's behind the curve right now so people are hacking on him. Tough break kid. Come back strong and show everyone what you can do!
  10. Just gotta say I really like the fact that as nux are ranked 4th best prospect pool in the whole league there are only a handful of responses on CDC - not an avalanche of rah rah. Plus the responses are smart. Says a lot about our prospect pool but also says a lot about the growing maturity of the fan base. Nice.
  11. I expect that the discussion about signing hughes this year centers around deployment. Putting him in a position to succeed. 1st line pplay for 5 to 6 mins a night. 10 or 11 mins at 5 on 5. Heavy weighting on offensive zone starts. Approx 16 minutes a night TOI. Focus on the kids obvious strengths. Shelter him from the situations that are more difficult for him. And let him grow. Prediction he is signed and used as above. Second prediction he gets 30+ points.
  12. Thanks Burr for some great memories. Bon chance. Now becoming time to close the thread and let the poor guy who started it off the hook. Kindness.
  13. Exactly 1 year from now jack will be drafted by an nhl team. Very high probability that team is not vancouver. So. Jack is with another team. Quinn is still unsigned cuz we wanted him to go back to college this year. Hmm. They are gonna want to play on the same team for their careers if they can... I don't like that possible scenario. Just sayin..
  14. Gaunce has had his time. He was here because he used to be the only relatively young 1st round pick not named Horvat who was still a Canuck. The last 5 years have changed that to the point that Gaunce must be assessed simply on what he brings now. No longer potential but what he brings now. Which is not enough to keep a full time roster spot.
  15. Hughes is an offensive defenseman. Needs to play with someone who is defensively responsible and will naturally cover when Hughes takes a chance. Tanev fits the bill. Gudbranson would be a terrible choice.
  16. My 2 cents. He is taking another step playing for his country in a major tournament featuring pro talent. Thought he looked good. A bit shy of contact and slight in size. He will improve as the tourney continues. Can he play in the NHL next year? Sure. Should he? Will depend on his summer and how he looks in preseason. He will likely start and play a month or so in Vancouver. If it goes well he will continue and if not he may either go back to Sweden or the AHL. Long term he will be a big piece of the Canucks rebuild. But he needs a strong supporting cast. He will not deliver the Canucks a cup on his own regardless how old or ready he is. When the team is ready I have no doubt he will be too.
  17. Had the pleasure of watching EP live at the prospects game at Rogers last summer with 6000 other season ticket holders. Nice to focus on him from the 6th row center ice. ( better than my regular seats lol). Yes the kid is extremely talented. It is obvious when you see him live. Then, this year he went and exceeded expectations by a wide margin. Odds are he may just become our best player in the future. Get used to it. I am not the only longtime fan saying this.
  18. He has his work cut out. TO moved on Vegas moved on. He showed some flashes in his games here but if he is no better than Baertschi at his full development then it will not work out here. We need guys who are better than that to be part of the future. Up to him to do everything he can to get better.
  19. I went to the game on Saturday. Great opportunity from my seats in lower bowl to focus on Demko. He was nervous to start but as the game went on he settled in. Watch a goalie skate out of his crease during time outs. You can sense how they feel. He got calmer and more composed on those skates as the game went on. Was a very positive experience for him first game first win. His post game interview was clear. Very positive experience.
  20. Guddy brings a needed physical presence to the team. Much needed. He has shown that he has that ability. It is up to him to bring it consistently. If he does, then re-signing him will turn out to be a good move for the team. JB wants to add some more toughness up front as well, Kane perhaps. Slowly adding a physical element that has been lacking for far too long.
  21. Remember seeing him live in the summer at the prospects game. He was damn good. Really impressed how he has built on that great start. Gaudette is going to play centre for the nux next year. Really excited to see. Look forward to everyone getting to see this kid here live.
  22. Drafted #188 at age 18 Brassard is 188 cm tall and was born on 8/8/98. If you think the number 8 is lucky you gotta love this kid lol!
  23. Luc drafted 10th. Draft plus 1 he went back to juniors. Draft plus 2 he got 9 Canuck games then back to junior. Draft plus 3 he played 41 games in the ahl and got 27 games with the nux. Left shot D, 6 foot 2, 199 pounds. Olli left shot D, 6 foot 2, around 200 pounds. Drafted 5th overall. Draft plus 1 back in juniors. Draft plus 2 pro in Finland. Likely to spend time split next year between the ahl and canucks. Very similar trajectory. Would be real special to see Olli have the career that Luc never got to have. GCG.
  24. Why is loyalty measured by the NHL team who drafted him. haha hahaha it just is partner.
