      Professional sports players are not just the employees, but also the core part of the product being sold.

      Take another industry, such as automobile production. If an employer were to lose their top 10 employees, productivity may decrease causing the employer to lose profits, but as long as the business continues to run there is little to no impact to the consumer. They still get their car at MSRP, or possibly better.

      If the NHL were to lose the top 10 players, it would have a substantial impact to fans of those players making the games less enjoyable/exciting to watch.
