In the 2016 draft I wanted the Canucks to drop back and take Sergachev. Kind of thinking the same thing w Wallinder now. Or even take Barlow if he drops and see if you can nab another C or D with a 2nd round pick.
But ASP has a high high ceiling imo. Im having a hard time bypassing him at #11. Love Hughes but if you want to play the long game and move Hughes for a haul near the backhalf of his contract, ASP (if he hits his ceiling) could be Swedish Hughes.
Im really curious where Tom Wallinder goes.
In a perfect world the Canucks move back to get him AND Simashev.
Both of them are wildcards-could both go in the 1st round or drop.
Adding those two to the Canucks prospect pool would be fantastic
Barlow has traits I like a lot, captain, very high work ethic, good skater, 2 way player and that release on his shot-wow. has some size and plays a bit nasty. May not have the highest ceiling but if he can develop into a formidable 2 way play driver-those are the players you want.
Wood’s compete level and obviously his skating are concern but hes a 17 year old. He’s someone youd have to scout heavily/interview to get a good read on.
I would be very happy with Sandin Pellikka at #11.
Kid has skills and great agility. Likes to go 1 on 1 / reminds me of Hughes a lot. Has that swagger.
I could see him becoming a top 3 D.
So no issues from me if the Canucks take him.
with a relatively weak UFA group and the Canucks playing better down the stretch/different cap situations for other teams (this summer) Im waiting to see what happens this offseason rather than project on what didnt happen before.
Media speculation about what it would cost to move some players, but media isnt privy to every conversation between teams and VAN.
All it takes is for one team to like/make a deal for a player.
Should make for an interesting off season (I hope).
Canelo / Ryder was … interesting. Gotta hand it to Ryder. Hung in there and pretty much asked Canelo to knock him out. Landed some decent shots of his own at the end there. Alvarez looked pretty bagged, maybe even shaky.
Excited about this draft. Always seem to be a couple of high end players that go between 10-16. Hoping Canucks can nab one.
Moore, Leonard, Wood, Dvorsky, Pellikka, Reinbacher….really curious how this draft order pans out.
It’s a leap of faith I know-just what my gut is telling me. I saw a bunch of games I liked under Tocchett-can he harness that in of the off season? I dont think he’s ever really taken his conditioning to that next level and I think Tocchett has made it pretty clear what he needs to do.
I hear what youre saying as well. I think he will be extremely motivated this summer (hope bet). see above
Totally possible he gets traded as well.
On the right side I see:
Hronek
Bear
It makes sense to move Myers but who knows if they can. If they do I wonder if Juulsen gets a serious look on the bottom pair. Hes stepping up this year and it might be his time to have a good off season and make the jump.
I typed out this long ass response but despite my longstanding scepticism with Boeser, I do think Boeser will make the necessary adjustments he needs to this offseason. Optimistically, Tocchett will be a great influence/motivator/hockey coach for him. Cynically we get more or less of the same. Defensively a non-factor and offensively streaky.
Im hoping for the best. He’s a great kid that has faced a good amount of pressure/adversity. PDG/Miller/Boeser I do like as a line.
