  1. No you're exactly right. He still has room to grow and learning. That being said, I do think he's still very capable right now.
  2. While there could be abuse I wouldn't go as far to say there is a lot of room for abuse. If we get a boatload of men trying to create a advantage for themselves in this sort of manner-yikes. If you say you identify as a certain gender, one would hope you're being genuine about it.
  3. TBH i definitely do not give Hughes a pass on defense. I expect him to be a very good defender. He might not excel in 1 in 1 physical battles in the corners or in front of the net, but everything else (good reads, communication, quick feet, good passes, breaking up plays etc.) I think he should be elite at.
  4. I get what you're saying about being conservative. But it is also a competitive environment and guaranteed ownership wanted it to turn around sooner than later. In fact, wasn't Linden let go because he wanted a more patient approach? With the moves JB has made I think context is important. There have been some distinct re-tool/rebuilding phases compared to where the team is at now. I do believe once JB gets some cap flexibility back, we will see a very schrewd GM trying to compliment the young core. That being said, having 6million in cap space sitting in the press box isn't a good look right about now.
  5. What makes you think FA didn't tighten the purse strings preventing a buyout? And you do remember when the Canucks traded for TT that was before Covid right? Sure, if JB didn't sign a few of the more onerous contracts they would have cap space, but you could also say no one predicted a flat cap, luongo recapture etc.
  6. Well perhaps NYI really did need a coaching change to unlock their potential. In VANs case, I've already stated what I think the problem is before pointing fingers at the coaching staff. How and when to break out is self defeating if you can't execute simple plays.
  7. How you infer that you don't need a coach from what I said is beyond me. I'll reiterate it again for you- the Oilers are still a mediocre team despite Tippet at the helm. That's a roster issue not a coaching issue. And you should look at MTL. Not too long ago people wanted Julien fired. Some key off season adds as well as internal development and look at them now. Same coach.
  8. Vice versa, when you don't execute youre taxing yourselves energy wise as well
  9. Bearing down is one thing. Executing defensive passes so you can break out cleanly/not turning pucks over and giving opposing teams glorious scoring chances is another.
  10. You're missing the point. I'm not comparing the Oilers directly to the Canucks. Tippet is a sound NHL coach and the Oilers roster has more or less stayed the same throughout the years. If coaching is the point at issue, then the Oilers should be a significantly better defensive group overall with Tippet compared to Todd McClellan etc. They arnt. If Tippet has squeezed the most he can defensively out of that group then it only supports my point-that the Oilers roster collectively arnt good enough. Coaching isn't a silver bullet that's going to change that. As far as the Canucks go, I have a hard time blaming the coach's for poor execution. But I guess scapegoats is the easier conclusion when the players clearly need to be better.
  11. Has Tippet turned the Oilers into a defensive powerhouse? Hardly. If the Canucks had Tippet as a coach, could he suddenly turn the teams defensive woes around? Doubt it. Fact of the matter is that execution on the ice is probably by day the bigger issue, and that can only be improved as the group evolves. But u keep on yelling at those clouds champ!
  12. Yeah while watching I saw WPG had a few nice opportunities that didnt pan out. They missed the net a bunch too. But Demko also had some great saves/rebound control that prevented others. Hell of a game though.
  13. So after watching that game it was a fair bit closer than the score suggests. WPG had some great chances they didn't convert on, but VAN battled hard as well. Hard fought game and not looking forward to seeing WPG six more times. They are probably the nastiest team by far in the Canadian division
  14. Well holy f-atoli. Watching the game now and just finished "the shift" Also I'm digging Sutter's line so far.
