  1. Listen my points were that up to now the two key statements from Benning, I mean other than "I will have to get used to the rain again" are that he really likes the core of the team and that he wants to play an up tempo game. The Sedins may have 'elite' conditioning but they are slow, you can spin it the way you want, they can't counterattack with speed, which is at the heart of the uptempo game. If you think the uptempo game is to cycle until you wear out your opponents, I think you misunderstand the concept. Plus, it's not just the Sedins who are not fast, it's Burrows, it's Higgins, it's Bieksa, it's Hamhuis... The Canucks as a team are one of the slowest in the league, you can argue that if you want but it's easy to see when you watch the games. So, my point is that I am not impressed with a new GM that really likes a core that is spent and over the hill and given that, wants to employ a style of play not suited to that group.
  2. well then let's keep it simple, what has impressed you about Benning up to now?
  3. Who looks dumber me or Benning up to now? I can't think of one pronouncement that he made that I can call 'smart'. Do you think it's smart of him to say he wants a high tempo team? #1 tell us something that not every manager says, and #2 how do you plan to do that with an old and slow team?
  4. I like that Benning said he wants to play an up tempo, high speed, high pressure game. I don't think anyone else in the NHL is trying to play an up-tempo game, we will be unique. And we sure have the horses to play an up tempo game with the Sedins as our star forwards- I mean who is faster on the counter attack then the Sedins? And of course, they are getting faster each year with all their training.
  5. Yes, that's going to be great: rookie president, rookie GM and rookie coach. What are the odds that all of them will work out?
  6. If he is not the kind of player that he likes, the yes, out of the question. Benning determines who is best according to his standards.
  7. Because obviously there is an objective way to determine this. Maybe a little elaboration is needed: who do you think Benning would consider the best player available at spot #6?
  8. If he turns out as good as Taylor Pyatt then he would be a great pick. Pyatt is getting close to 1,000 NHL games, not many players get to that number. Very nice career.
  9. And let's add that many of them think that Tortorella is a great coach. The reality is the Canucks went from one of the very well-coached teams in the league to one of terribly-coached teams and the result in the standings was very predictable.
  10. For sure, the Canucks are clearly lacking someone who can fight. Look at the space and time that Montreal is giving to Lucic because they are so scared of touching him. Subban won't come close to him. Same with Markov.
  11. It's hard not to like Rask. He seems like a genuine guy and very fair competitor.
  12. This was just a comment on the love that Linden has for the Bruins.
  13. Exactly, good point. And what do you do if someone shoves his hair into your hand while punching you in the face?
  14. Yes, so we can get the guy that helped put the team together that Montreal beat. Hmm, maybe there's someone from the Montreal organization we should look at?
  15. So you sound very sure that Tortorella will be fired or the implication if he stays is that the new management is no better than the old one.
  16. Canada's best at that tournament? Is Ekblad there? Is McDavid there? The point is yes his Calgary team was not as all all-stars but neither was the opposition. Fact is, he was a non-factor against a very average WHL team. Sure he may someday become a very good player in the NHL, but right now he is very far away from that.
  17. And the way he dominated this year's WHL playoffs tells you that he is a can't miss prospect?
  18. Yes, and these two guys have been key in giving the Canucks a great reputation around the league. Kesler is an absolute embarrassment to this team. Hopefully the team moves away from players like that.
  19. OK, well some people seem to say that he should be considered for that pick. Bottom line is, people have to recognize the huge drop off after the first one, two, maybe three picks, and have realistic expectations. Horvat was ninth pick and he is not likely to play until the season after next and it is likely to be at least a couple of years before he can make a real impact, change games, and that is if things work out very well. Virtanen could not impact a WHL playoff series, he is faaaaaar from being able to impact an NHL game. Maybe some day, in 4-5 years. Maybe.
  20. Interesting the difference between a 6th pick and a top pick. Virtanen and Reinhart (first or second pick) went head to head in the WHL playoffs this year and the results were quite striking.
  21. You will be a very disappointed fan over the next few years.
  22. Exactly, what's the problem, his only shortcomings is that he is not aggressive and physical defensively and can't hit the net offensively, that's all.
  23. Twice Anaheim and one LA in the next four games, what are the odds of a sweep?
  24. It's obvious Bettman hates the Canucks. That's why you're not following them anymore I am sure.
