  1. I like his game and attitude. Competitive nature with a bit of swagger and showmanship on the ice. On the other hand he can be classy off the ice, especially in interviews(Wished Buffalo the best and was happy of their success earlier this year). Didn’t complain about the Tkachuk hit but instead said “It hurts to win”. Gamer attitude.
  2. Eichel has had quite the journey of ups and downs and ultimately resurgence. Career derailing Injury. Being one of the worst run teams during his time in Buffalo. Now he’s gonna win a cup before McDavid.
  3. BPA would hopefully be a forward with size/skill/speed/smarts or a solid/poise/multifaceted two-way RD that would mesh well with Hughes.
  4. They also got Mateychuk, Ceulemans and Jiricek in the system. All who bring offensive styles. Boqvist seems like the odd man out since he’s easier to replace.
  5. You need a balanced roster. It just so happens the thing we need to balance the roster is size/physicality. We also could get a bit faster too. If you can find players with size and speed that aren’t afraid to use it the better. We need multifaceted players too. Players with size that can play defensive/energy role. That can play the PK. Overall a revamped D-core and bottom 6 that addresses these issues would greatly help address these issues. Only thing is we gotta wait to address these moves.
  6. I think Boqvist goes before Peeke anyway considering he’s easier to replace than Peeke with what they have in the system.
  7. Yeah. Peeke has 3 years left at a cheap contract, the same time Jiricek’s ELC ends. Serves as a stop gap for Jiricek and even if he outplays early you got a fairly cheap Right Side that plays more than they’re worth for 3 years.
  8. Perhaps but it seems sensible to keep him in comparison to others. He plays a style they lack, fits in their age group and can play the top 4 cheaper than anyone else on the roster. Jiricek may take time to establish himself too so it’s also a good stop gap. I reckon they try to move on from Guddy before Peeke as well. Peeke may well be gone in time as Jiricek progresses but he has good value to CBJ in the short term as Jiricek establishes himself. I don’t see any rush. They have 3 seasons till he expires.
  9. Or maybe Jiricek needs another year. Or Gud plays 3rd LD. Either way they got insurance with Gud. Lucky that Gud’s contract isn’t too much longer. He expires when Peeke, 3rd overall(if he plays next year) Jiricek and a few others need contracts. Not as much of a pickle as it could have been.
  10. They also have LD Mateychuk who was drafted 12th overall last year with Jiricek. There’s an argument to be made to trade one of their more offensive defenders considering Boqvist, Ceulemans, Mateychuk and Jiricek all have offensive toolsets. Probably not Jiricek has he has more to him than offensive play and Mateychuk has a bit of that too and is the only one who is a lefty. Boqvist is the one that’s much easier to replace than Peeke. They also seem to prefer Peeke when it comes to ice times. I reckon Boqvist moves.
  11. 3rd overall will be their #1C and Jenner will be C2. Roslovic falling down to 3rd C. Kuraly is a pretty good bottom 6 C. Sillinger 12th overall in 2021 is a C that has solid two-way potential. C really isn’t too bad of an issue.
  12. Majority of teams are looking to clear cap. They won’t have a lack of suitors willing to part with players, even quality ones, and add sweeteners to do so. Chicago is also one of the few teams with a lot of cap heading to Free Agency with a high profile player in Bedard. They also aren’t further ahead in the rebuild like other teams like CBJ/ANA/Buffalo/etc. They still need to draft and develop to surround Bedard with players he can grow with. Getting to the cap floor won’t be trouble for them. Instead it’s an opportunity to keep boosting the rebuild. The market caters to them.
  13. I say one of Pod/Hog might be more enticing. They need to round out their top 9 and they fit the age group they want. They also save some cap they can use to further round out their supporting cast of forwards. They could use some size. They don’t have much up front, especially on the wings. We’d probably have to clear some more cap. Maybe we could get some retention on their part but doubtful as I think Peeke is more valued and the cap they get even it out more.
  14. Maybe as a ufa acquisition if they are in the mix. They lack a lot of size and physicality on the wings. They’re kind of soft there. They have a lot of skilled guys on the wing(a lot of which is young/developing). A 3rd overall who will be the face of this core. The young players will get better and they have two forwards who can already put up a PPG in Laine and Gaudreau. Offence probably should be a wait and see approach. They needed help of D right away. The smart thing for CBJ would be to build up the bottom 6. Hence why guys like Pod/Hog would be more enticing. IMO.
  15. A lot of younger players might take another year or two to cement themselves. They will definitely be better next year because they are likely much more healthier too. They were one of the most injured teams last year. They were for the first half of the year. Their next priority should be shoring up the bottom 6.
  16. Swap out Garland for one of Pod/Hog then perhaps you catch their attention.
  17. Having four top 12 picks in the last two drafts helps.
  18. CBJ just revamped their D-core. They have under 6M but they got a lot of RFAs in 2024 needing re-signing. They probably go after no one big. I reckon more help in the bottom 6.
  19. I don’t think they trade the pick. They were adding veteran help they needed to their D core. They already have solid veterans at forward. They’ve had a lot of high picks the last couple drafts. Their high end youngsters are growing, have just started in the NHL and or are just about to make the jump. 3rd overall is gonna be the defining piece of their new core. He’s gonna have other youngster with him to help make up a solid core. They all will be growing together CBJ was one of the most injured teams last year. For the first half of the season they were. They will probably be better next year. Especially with improvements to guys like Johnson and perhaps a Top D prospect like Jiricek joining the team next year.
  20. They needed a veteran D to help round out their roster. They also got promising young D that will be able to grow better now. Jiricek will step in being able to play with a solid partner. Already have some solid veteran forwards already. If they stay healthy(which was a problem last season) they’ll be a better team. 3rd overall is gonna step into a situation of playing with Gaudreau and Laine. Johnson will keep improving as well as Sillinger. The core they have growing is scary. They’ve drafted fairly high last couple seasons with multiple picks in the top 12. They have a pretty good prospect pool. Buffalo and CBJ could be powerhouses in 2-4 years. Devils likely sooner. Power shift in the east in the foreseeable future.
  21. Cap is only gonna be a 1M increase by the sounds of it. The following off-season after this one the league are gonna have a more significant cap increase as well as we’re gonna have cap off the books from some more pricey expiring contracts. The question I am asking is do you wait it out a year and save assets or are you willing to pay sweeteners/buyouts/retention to create more cap space in order to try to improve the team right away?
