4-2 Canucks canucks petey petey -
Avs don't have the cap and Byram on ELC for 2 years while they are competing probably better suits them as they're contending. Also if you gonna trade Petey you probably get a similar/struggling star not an up and coming one having a breakout season. Similar to PLD for Laine.

The cap makeup of this team points to us not bringing in guys anytime soon and us losing key guys as people need re-signing as early as 2023. We have a 2 year window essentially to win with the group we have before having to make significant roster decisions if we decide to try to win with what we got. And if we decide to hang on to guys we risk losing them for nothing in free agency. We can decide to go in a lot of different directions with this team but the potential to win with this group as it is now is far from a guarantee given the circumstantial evidence of the last few years and the holes on the roster. A new coach helps but history has shown only so much and the potential for amazing turnaround is very limited. I think ownership is pretty open to a lot of different directions. They're trying to build an experienced management group which is a good sign. Day at a time though but big decisions are on the horizon.

[Report] Ben Bishop’s career is over
Junkyard Dog replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
When healthy he was a great goalie. Over 400 games played with 33 shutouts a 2.32 GAA and .921 career save percentage. Record of 222-128-36. Over 50 games played in playoffs with 5 shutouts a 2.27 GAA and .924 save percentage. Record of 29-21. A shame. IMO he helped put bigger goalies on the market. -
Would like to see results.

We’ve lost some keys guys for the PK over the years(Edler, Tanev, Beagle) and we don’t really have much cap to work with going forward. People say Myers has been having a good season whereas it’s been a little more of a roller coaster up and down year. He is tied for team lead in 5v5 goals against and leads the entire NHL in PP goals against by a significant margin. He’s been on the ice for 40 all-strength goals against altogether which is up there for the upper echelon in the league though I haven’t done the research to know for certain his ranking there. Overall the roster losses haven’t helped Myers on the PK. Hughes also tied with Myers and Miller for team lead in 5v5 goals against. My point with these stats is that we rely too much on 3 guys (OEL/Hughes/Myers) to play roles we need defensive types for. Team needs two solid defensive types IMO. Hamonic/Poolman aren’t really top 4 guys if we want to build a consistent playoff team. The next 25 games will ease my concerns or not. I don’t think we will make the playoffs personally. Even Sutter was only able to manage .500 hockey from the point he took over the Flames last year. Hawks are .500 now too since the new coach as well I believe. a success to me would be to create brand of hockey. Create an identity. We have kids trying different roles. We’re gonna grow as a team.
