Burroughs too and both of them are signed 850k(Schenn) 750k(Burroughs) for the next 2 years(including this one). Both these guys also are top 2 in hits per 60 on the team. Not a bad parting gift from JB. I'll give him due credit for these depth guys in particular, a minor win. Doesn't discount his other failures but credit where it's due. -

Never know what could happen. Like I said the team can go in a lot of different directions. We're gonna be bringing a new GM and he'll get to decide that. My guess first is that they'll figure out whether or not this group, as it is, can have success. The cap makeup of this team towards us not really bringing guys in and potentially losing guys with youngsters needing raises. This group will have to win with what is has for the most part. Miller is a pretty key guy, even more so with Petey/Boeser(happy he's recently scored twice) struggling this season. I think we move Miller if we can't have success with this team, we can't afford him and/or he plans to walk. I think there's a better chance he'd walk in free agency than Horvat too considering he'd be the top FA. Depends on Miller though. I wouldn't blame him if he wanted his payday, he's earned it. I have some concerns about the makeup of the team but I want to see how the next 25-30 games play out. It would be good to help determine things for certain and to compare. I believe the play of the team the rest of the year will have a huge factor what direction this team goes. If we can't have success with this group then we probably blow things up(not seriously) retaining most of the key core and reshaping the roster towards one the new GM feels can have success. If we start having significant success we probably hold the roster till next year and go from there. There's a two year window with this roster if this team has success before we lose key guys(Miller/etc) and have to figure out(the new GM) the next steps to take. I wouldn't want to lose Miller or anyone key like that for nothing though so that decision will have to be made. Lots of decisions and work to be done. It is a little thrilling and leaves me anxious at times. Never know what to expect moving forward -

That is just one of many routes we could go. Some longer-term, some shorter term. We're a team that can decide to take a lot of different paths right now. The GM will get to do decide where we go. Not sure we can sign both Miller/Horvat since we are pretty cap strapped for a while. Wishful thinking. We still have Boeser to re-sign and will have raises for some of the youngsters too. Hopefully they'll want to be here cheap. We looked like a 'potential' team before on paper. Nothing sure fire. A lot of people had concerns about the D-core. A lot of people came into the season with an open mind. Still a lot of decisions to be made and a lot of work to be done. -

These are the same guys who've been on this team during a horrendous stretch. You're going off a very short sample size compared to what I am going off of. Don't get your hopes up in 2 games. Look at the bigger picture. Coaching was just one of the reasons why this team was struggling. You don't play that bad just because of coaching. It was one of many problems such as the D-core. You could draft a D for Hughes since he's still young enough or sign one in FA once we clear cap. Half our D are from free agency so it can be done. There are lots of options to look at. -

Myers has been on and off. Schenn is a solid 7th on a good team and Hamonic/Poolman are good 5 D. We will only ever be a wild-card team at best with this D-core and that's because our top 6 forward group is deep and we have a stellar goalie. The D-makeup isn't that great either. No real defensive guys. We need a few players with bite and pushback in the bottom 6. On top of a 4th C(Sutter?) and another solid 3rd C since Miller jumps up and down in the lineup and for top 6 injuries. -

I doubt it. Roster still has holes. We'd be in the hunt probably. IMO we are still weak on the right side. Poolman and Hamonic are good #5 Ds and Myers plays like a #3 one night than a #5 another. Really need some physical defensive presences there. Need like a couple better versions of Schenn back there. Bottom 6 needs a bit of revamping too. -
He is helping keep it stupid simple with our D too with the high flips when under pressure in our own zone which is probably the right call with this D-core too. Gotta do what you gotta do with what you got. Only Hughes/OEL can make good outlet passes consistently.
-
Oh yeah. Too bad we lack any sort of players with toughness and pushback besides Schenn who's a good 7th on a good team. I am just saying BB's coaching style where the forwards start attacking in the opposing zone instead of waiting for them to come to us will help our weaker D out. I was seeing the Bruins/Kings have to throw the puck away because they didn't have good plays on the rush which made it easy for our D to just retrieve and move the puck up the ice in transition. Our forwards were causing most of the pressure and doing most of the work when it was successful.
-
The more aggressive forecheck from the forwards will help out the D a bit but yeah you see moments where we're asking too much of certain guys.
-
Hog's been off the last couple of weeks offensively with the puck. Some defensive errors too in his own zone. Nothing major, a pretty minor slump since his effort levels are always 110%. Not really anything to worry about, normal 2nd year things.

Don’t do it. -
There are better options out there for both a President and GM role. Tulsky and MacFarland are probably the best names out there for a GM spot. Both guys have done their part in helping the Avs and Canes to have the success they have had. Lombardi, Rutherford, Tallon, Shero probably guys you could look at in a Presidential role. Probably missed a few guys. He was on the board of directors. The Canucks job is still Gillis's only ever job as a GM.

His biggest failure, within all things, was probably his inability to create any sort of culture or team identity. Hopefully BB and the new GM can do that. -

Lots of reason for optimism. We can use the rest of this season to help build the right culture/mentality on then ice. -

Dickinsen looked good with Boeser/Miller 5v5. Looks a lot better at wing. Kind of like another Pearson but a tad bit more aggressive.
