[PGT] Winnipeg Jets at Vancouver Canucks | Nov. 19, 2021
Junkyard Dog replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
We were the better team last 5-10 minutes of the 1st and 2nd but the Jets were the better team in the 3rd and first 10-15 minutes of the 1st. We had twice as many giveaways as they did and more than twice as many blocks. The blocked shots for us and Jets shot total alone are indicative of Jets controlling good portions of the game. The game I was watched was indicative of what the stats told at the end of the game. The Jets, when in control, produced a lot more dangerous chances. At 5v5 Scoring chances that game are almost 2 to 1 Jets and High danger chances were 2 to 1 Jets. Demko had to be great and the Jets were a little off from playing the Oilers McDavid to a shootout the night prior in a spirited game. We took advantage of a tired team on the PP and the Jets didn't have enough juice to solve Demko. Stats confirm the game I watched. We played better than previous games but we could have been better and need to be. PP made a step in the right direction. https://www.naturalstattrick.com/games.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=5v5&loc=B&team=VAN&team2=WPG&rate=n Can't be satisfied with that W. Not out of the woods yet. -

Best PK is no PK. -
what about the 10% luck and 20% skill?
-
Petey might need to reinvent his game. It's been done before to success.

I hear Walmart doesn't mind the panic.

Wildfires, floods, a minor tornado and the Canucks suck. BC can't catch a break.

Kyle Rittenhouse. Murder or self defense ?

Whatever. Glad this is over. Media put too much flak into this and will probably continue to do so. Hopefully people forget this just as easily as they forgot about afghanistan... More important things to garner our attention anyway, especially here on our own soil with the floods. -
If he wants out then you find the right deal. Same thing applies to everyone in that sort of scenario. In Petey's case we can be more patient than others. The only guy we could be more patient with in a similar sort of scenario would be Hughes. What Petey could garner would be dependant on how Petey is playing. IMO though the best deal you could probably find is a player like Petey in a similar situation in a deal akin to PLD for Laine. We can take our time finding that sort of deal if that's the case. IMO Horvat/Miller first and then you consider whether Boeser is worth sticking around.
-
If we trade them this year and get a solid return of picks/prospects for them we'd be definitely be making changes. The definitions of these sort of things aren't that much of a concern for me. Consider it what you want.
-
To be honest the cap makeup of this team points at us not adding any serious acquisitions for a while and we will also continue to lose guys. In 2023 as it stands we will lose one of Miller/Horvat. IMO this team needs more than one trade or one FA acquisition(that we can't really add) to really improve things. Hog/Pod are gonna need contracts too moving forward. That's why I think we should consider this if this group of players prove incapable after coaching/GM changes.
-
Keep the youngsters in Petey/Hughes/Pod/Hog/Demko/prospects and maybe Boeser. Soft/short rebuild for two years Horvat/Miller would be the first guys I would be moving. Miller/Horvat would be the guys netting you a lot. You can also retain cap on Horvat/Miller to maximize return. At less than 3M each for two playoff runs playoff teams would be lining up with interest for them. Without Horvat and Miller you can definitely look toward top 5 picks the next two years. Boeser would be the next guy to consider but he's young enough to keep around if we choose to. Next I would look to dump OEL somewhere. Not because he's bad, he's been great, but for the cap moving forward. Maybe Boston is willing to take him off our hands. Pearson, Hamonic and Garland would be the next three I would be looking to move. That can be done in the 2022-23 season though since we'll need bodies this year and they are still under contract for a while. The goal would be to accumulate picks for the 2022/2023 drafts, prospects and shed cap so that we can begin to shape up our roster from 2023-24 and on. We might not be a playoff team right away in 2023-24, barring winning the lotto and nailing free agency in 2023(maybe consider bringing back one of Miller/Bo? we'd have the cap too), but we'd be on the uptrend. Maybe with a new coach/Gm this team turns things around but if that's not this case then we consider this.
-
I don't either but if this group proves incapable after changes to the coaching/GM then we might not have a choice. Horvat/Miller are UFAs in 2023. They probably won't want to stick around an incapable group considering that they're in their primes and it will be their last opportunity at a big deal.
-
That's why we should hire a new GM/coach now and see if that's the case. If the group of players proves incapable after that then you consider a soft rebuild.
-
Full rebuild IMO would be complete tear down. All talent on the roster worth value would go. Soft rebuild in our situation would be to keep the young talent on the roster and trade the older talent. Trying to build together a better core with the young talent already there. At least that's how I would define it. How would you define what I described?
-
I am not sure about that atm. IMO Petey would net you another young player in a similar sort of predicament at best. A trade we've seen quite a bit in recent times. He's also young enough to stick around and we'll still have his rights after this current contract. Simply put he doesn't need to be dealt right away and we can be patient with him in any route we decide to choose. Whether that be finding the right deal or hoping he is able to turn things around. This is a luxury we cannot afford with Horvat/Miller who are both UFAs in 2023.
