  1. Not really. Dude didn't get all of his shot on net because Pod got him in the hands. Pod took a good penalty though.
  2. The point of a soft rebuild is to keep the younger guys around, trade the solid veterans to add add more young talent as we're drafting high and then fill the key roles in UFA(Like C and D) after the rebuild phase as the youngsters join the team on ELCs and improve over time. Petey's young enough still to be around and I don't think we would get full value at this point. There's a risk factor with him right now. At most the best value we'd get is a young player in the same sort of situation which presents risk itself too. I also would think his priority would be to get his game back to form over a trade atm. By a lot of accounts he wanted to be the guy this year and is a player that's hard on himself, almost too much according to IMac. If Petey wants out than yeah we could explore options but we also would have the option to have him stick around with us throughout this rebuild phase since we keep his rights for 3 years + RFA. Same sort of deal applies to Hughes and other youngsters too as well though. So if a deal has to be made we have and abundance of time to find the right one. Essentially, whatever route we decide to go with Petey, we can afford to be patient with him, a luxury Horvat/Miller don't share expiring much sooner as UFAs in 2023.
  3. If we see what we saw during the roadtrip then they will hear it.
  4. I could see both Miller and Horvat walking in 2023 for nothing if the team is still crap. We’ve seen captains walk in UFA before. They are both in their primes with the last chance at a big contract. Many teams would covet them too. Both Miller and Horvat separately would command a small fortune each. We’d definitely be absolutely trash without them but drafting top 5 in these next 2 deep drafts, while having extra early picks, might not be a bad thing. We definitely be in a soft rebuild and keep the youngsters like Hog/Hughes/Demko/Pod/Petey and maybe Boeser and trade away the high value vets starting with Horvat/Miller and maybe Boeser.
  5. I believe it(any coach/gm firing) when I see it. If nothing changes we can maybe expect a top 5 pick. Nemec looks like a stud RD.
  6. If we exhaust all options and a new coach/GM can’t win with this group as it is then a soft rebuild for 2 years. If the group is still incapable after all that then you risk Horvat/Miller walking which would really set us back. In a soft rebuild you keep the players still young enough to stick around in Hughes, Pod, Hog, Demko, Petey and maybe Boeser. Trade the higher value vets in Miller, Horvat, Pearson and maybe Boeser initially. Look to trade others like Garland, Hamonic, Poolman, etc afterwards. Miller and Horvat alone would command a small fortune. Accumulate picks/prospects the next 2 seasons. Draft top 5 the next 2 seasons. You’d be shedding cap simultaneously. After 2 year phase of drafting top 5, accumulating prospects via trade and the draft in those 2 years you build the roster from there on out starting with filling some of the bigger holes via UFA. Youngsters would be knocking on the door at the same time. You probably wouldn’t be a playoff team right away in year 3 unless you really nail the right UFA(or two) and the draft(like win the lotto) but you’d be on the uptrend with quality youngsters making the team and only getting better on top of already having guys there to work with.
  7. Not really any rush to trade him. He's got 3 years left and is an RFA at the end of it. Guys like Horvat/Miller are UFAs in 2023. Boeser is a RFA next off-season with a 7.5M qualifying offer. Petey's value is at a low. I wouldn't trade him for less than full value. We can take our time with Petey.
  8. We could interim it and hire a president now though if we so desired.
  9. What about a soft rebuild. This team is still full of young talent that can stick around. Pod/Demko/Hog/Rathbone/Hughes/Petey?(depends what Petey) You trade the better vets for a solid return. Draft top 5ish for 2-3 years.Accumulate picks/prospects in a 2-3 year period and then build the roster back up after the rebuilding phase based off what you got at that point with youngsters you accumulated knocking on the door. The main reason I think this should be considered if we can't turn it around is because Miller/Horvat are upcoming UFAs in 2023. In the prime of their careers. They could sign with another team in an effort to be on a winning team.Seeing them walk for nothing would really set us back. Probably wouldn't recover. Horvat/Miller would command a pretty hefty return each. Next two drafts are pretty deep too. Definitely should see what the players can do in front of a new coach first though. This is more of a last case scenario.
  10. Wasn't the reason he left because he wanted to rebuild? Hextall and Burke made it clear they are in win-now mode. All penguins media speak very highly of him and feel he's gonna get another job. Rutherford reportedly wants a president spot over a GM one. Probably better suits him. I personally would have someone like MacFarland as GM and look for an experienced guy for president.
  11. That's why I think we would need an experienced president. MacFarland seems like he would excel in a background/behind the scenes role and the president can be the front man. MacFarland could be a good front guy/leader for all I know but when you have Sakic you'll probably never get that opportunity to show it. MacFarland has taken interviews in recent years for GM roles. He wants the opportunity. He'll probably get one sooner than later. Rutherford wants back in some capacity. It's been reported that he'd prefer a president of hockey ops spot. A combo of Rutherford and MacFarland?
  12. Year 8 I think we overall need to new voice. Regardless of what standing JB has with ownership. We need someone to help build an identity on this team and JB has yet to do that 8 years in. At the current pace we're going we're likely to rebuild again with Miller/Horvat UFA looming. They won't want to stick around if the team doesn't become a playoff team. We have to exhaust all options prior to this. Coaching and GM being the main ones.
  13. Whoopsies. Still he's been with the Hawks since 2008/09 as a advisor. I doubt he even considers another opportunity at 88.
  14. We're either gonna have to go after AGMs of contending teams or failed GMs of other teams. MacFarland. AGM of the Avs but helped turned the Avs around when they were at the bottom and has been Sakic's right hand man since arriving. Credited with the stockpile of young talent. Someone who we should consider. Get an experienced President first and foremost though IMO.
  15. Edit: He's 88 and hasn't left the Hawks in over a decade.
  16. Colarado AGM Chris MacFarland. He's been credited in playing a part in the Avs resurgence from the bottom of the league to a contending team. Id still want a president though. An experienced one at that.
  17. Physical elements that we waived away at the start of the year.
  18. Maybe he should look to sell the team if money is a problem? Our even just half. Are there any co-owners of NHL teams?
