Win some lose some. No GM is perfect but the hits have to outweigh the misses in order to be a successful GM at drafting and to help translate success on the ice.
Boston hit a homerun in 2014 with Pasta but 2015 they literally had 3 strikeouts with the 13th 14th and 15th overall picks with the only non-bust being Debrusk. Missed out on a bunch of good players(Connor, Barzal, Konecny, Boeser, Chabot) after those picks. Probably would have beaten STL had they drafted 3 of those players.
Canucks have been average at drafting under Benning. Maybe above average. Some big misses and some big successes. Not really anyone to pan out yet in the later rounds yet save for Forsling and maybe Rathbone. IDK what to think about Gaudette as he lost the success he once had. We've done good in the 2nd round though with Hoglander/Demko. As of now a starting goalie and a top 9 player out of the five 2nd round picks Bennings has drafted. Woo/Gadjo/Lind might turn out to be something but that's still to be determined.
Hopefully we keep our picks moving forward. Our prospect pool has grown a little bare with the graduates, traded picks and lost prospects(waivers/expansion). Maybe if we have to trade Miller down the line we can stock up on picks/prospects. Keep a steady flow of solid youngsters in the system. Help us to be successful long-term.
