He definitely didn't do himself any favors. I would have hoped he would of taken heed given how missing camp affected Boeser previously.
-
Yeah for sure right now. I think if he ups his strength and size a bit he probably can be better there. Not sure of how many 6'2'' 176lbs centers that are good at draws. Our best guys are usually Miller/Horvat/Sutter and they're 15lbs or heavier in Miller/Horvat's case. That was back at the beginning of the year. I would be interested in what he would have to say at this point.

IMO I believe every fault we see is very likely a result of his lack of play. When you're gone so long you play catch up with pretty much every aspect of your game. We won't know for certain though till we're more into the season. We saw this already with Boeser once playing catch up and he wasn't the Boeser we know that year back in 2019-20 but he came back the following year and put us at ease. Hughes/Boeser/Petey weren't as good their following years after their rookie season. Youngsters like that take the league by storm but they were the only threats we had for the most part and they got targeted hard. Petey at his best was back in the Vegas series where he was making big plays and was involved in most of the series positively(especially games 5 and 6). Probably the only guy not named Demko who showed his worth. Petey we've heard(from commentators and analysts who talk to him) is very hard on himself. So confidence could be a problem too, more so than other players. Confidence would be a huge factor in someone's drive. Just have to hope he catches up and picks up his confidence over the course of the season. As I have pointed out we've already seen youngsters go through their troubles and overcome them over time so we already know time ultimately tells.

[proposal] Canucks-Coyotes Blockbuster Part II
Junkyard Dog replied to Patel Bure's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
We don’t really need him. I like him though. OEL/Hughes/Rathbone make up our left side. We need a solid RD and maybe a more offensive 3rd C(Strome?). Dickinsen is a better winger than he is a C IMO. -
Not necessarily. His main issue is his timing is way off which all makes sense with him missing a long time away from play. On top of all this his confidence is probably shot atm. 225 days between games is a long time. Only like 32 games in the last 413 days dating back to the end of the bubble. Missing training camp and pretty much all preseason wasn’t good for him. I’ll wait till the 20-25 game mark, roughly a month from now, till I judge him. Remember when Horvat had that year when he didn’t score for the 1st half of the season then was like a ppg the 2nd half? We also all had concerns about Boeser in 2019-20 after all his injuries then he was our best forward in 2020-21. Time will tell ultimately, like it has before.

Which is the best development league
Junkyard Dog replied to Fred65's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Every player is in a different circumstance, different talent/physical level and different stage of development as well. -
Hard to judge a player who missed the 2nd half of last year to injury and almost all of training camp/preseason to contract talks. I’ll give him till like the 20ish game mark. A couple weeks after this 17 day homestand. Roughly a month from now.

I think you gotta wait till 1/4 through the season before coming up with these ideas in regards of a player that missed the last half of last year to injury and almost all training camp due to contract talk. It is a little early.

Which is the best development league
Junkyard Dog replied to Fred65's topic in General Hockey Discussion
It’s tough to say. Every league has its different pros and cons. -
End up the month is when my 2nd shot is. Tried going into a walk in but they said to book an appointment.

Serious question about perceived negativity around this team
Junkyard Dog replied to MeanSeanBean's topic in Canucks Talk
We’re trying to be a playoff team. So we must understand that we have to be held up to a higher standard than the times we weren’t. The level of expectations is higher than before. People want to see something different, not more of the same. That road trip shunned a light on more of the same issues this team had when we weren’t a playoff team. So that’s led to some concern. We’ve only had a small taste of successful hockey due to luck from the bubble. We were on our way out of a playoff spot at the time with Marky/Boeser out. So a lot of us feel like this team still has a lot to prove. We’ve spent a long time at the bottom half of the league. People haven’t been given many reasons not to have a negative perception either. Frustrations are amounting and so is the pressure the whole team will face. If the Canucks want to put a lot of people at ease then they have to have a good year and make the playoffs. People will support them through and through but if their faith isn’t being rewarded then people will start to lose their faith and want to see changes for the better. -
Still a high volume passer. He's like a high volume shooter in the NBA. He'll throw up a lot of passes and get points every now and then but it means more miss passes. Not sure he's a good fit as one of the main playmakers on the PP. Might be better served at the goal line as the bumper passer and around the net.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Seattle Kraken | Oct. 23, 2021

Not satisfied with how we played that road trip even though the result was above average. 7/12 points is not bad but not great. Special teams especially need to be fixed. Top end offensive players need to get going. Turnovers need to be cleaned up, Demko has been saving our skin more than he should. This homestand is key. 7 games in a 17 day span. Way more than enough time for practice and to make adjustments. There will be no excuse afterwards. -

For sure but need to have those sometimes too. This win doesn't erase the concerns I have going into this homestand but a minor good sign nevertheless. -

Still concerns heading into the homestand but a good sign that we can steal a game we had no business in. Garland/Horvat/Demko we have to thank. Hoglander an honorable mention. -
