Identifying RHD Prospects to Acquire (Discussion)
Junkyard Dog replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Not a prospect but I would target Zadorov if possible. He plays either side. -
I think there's a good chance we see Benn gone in order to re-sign Stecher.

I wonder if Zadorov would be a good target. He's playing on the right side of their 3rd pairing. He is a RFA and has a qualifying offer of 3.2M and they have a RD prospect in Timmins who could make the jump at a cheaper deal. They have to re-sign RFA Graves too, who looks good with Makar, and he's in for a big raise. Not sure if the Avs need wingers though. They have a bunch of wingers coming off contracts.

Yeah and this is unfortunate. I am not happy for harking on Jake but time is running out. Guys like Mac/Motte proving capable in the bottom 6 while guys like Lind/Pod/Hog loom on the horizon. Jake has the attributes to do so much more than a guy like Motte but we don't ever see that consistently. He needs to be able to do more than score to be effective and he will get more ice time, barring shortened benches and special teams.

Heh Babs for short.

Sutter is 3rd in defensive zone faceoffs with 30. Horvat having 33 and Beagle having 46. 12 faceoffs on the PK with Sutter, likely most of them being in the D-zone. Horvat has 1 SH faceoff. That tells you that Horvat's line takes more D-zone draws 5v5. Sutter is also behind Beagle/Horvat/Miller in total faceoffs taken. So my point proven 5v5 Beagle/Horvat handle the most defensive responsibility. http://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?report=faceoffpercentages&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20192020&gameType=3&playerPlayedFor=franchise.20&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=totalFaceoffs&page=0&pageSize=50 No it isn't. 2nd and 4th line played in more defensive roles and against tougher competition. Horvat matched up against best players consistently and Beagle's line shared that duty handling the better offensive players. It has been a consistent thing all year. When Gaudette was playing C they were consistently sheltered when together. I am not sure you're gonna prove to me or anyone that, right now, Virtanen isn't one of our worst defensive forwards and isn't a checking forward like Motte/Beagle/Sutter/Bo/Eriksson. We're team full of responsible defensive forwards and the bar is high on this team. Honest question. Who has done more to contribute to the wins so far. Virtanen or Eriksson?

Not a lot of people praise Pearson as much as Miller/Boeser/Petey/Horvat. Hell I feel some of the bottom 6 guys might have more praise so far. Boeser got a lot of praise early on, when he scored a couple big goals, but last couple games it has died down for sure. I am missing a big Boeser snipe though. Especially off the rush. I want him to destroy Binnington's bottle.

filler line/secondary scoring line/5v5 line. Just a name you're taking out of context. Horvat/Beagle's line handles most of the defensive responsibility 5v5. I think you're taking a lot of what I am saying out of context actually because I have very much enjoyed Sutter so far. If it was a defensive checking line Virtanen wouldn't be on it. As it stands now Eriksson has done more to contribute to the team than Virtanen. LE is a part of a PK that's 84% and has been noticeably good in games whereas Virtanen has been unnoticeable. Green can trust LE more too just like he can Sutter over Gaud. That's probably why LE has been averaging 16:23 a game compared to Virtanen's 8:59. Hell despite lower ice times Mac/Roussel have been more noticeable than Jake. And I hate to hark on Jake but this is the reality. I wish he was better but he hasn't been. Putting Toffoli with Sutter gives us a better top 9. The top 6 is fine. No need to mess it around. 4th line has good chemistry with Motte/Beagle/Mac. Only changes that could be made without messing with the chemistry is Virtanen. If the top 6 has a bad game and we lose then you could move Tofu up.

Not really. Third line isn't much of a checking line compared to the 2nd and 4th. It's been more of a filler line. My point was if we wanted to roll 4 lines, replacing Virtanen with someone who's consistently better defensively, offensively and away from the puck will give Green more opportunities to do so since he can trust that 3rd line more. If you weigh who's done the most and least to contribute to the wins, Virtanen has easily done the least among all the forwards. Hence why he should/could be replaced.

Only catch is Greener likes to use the 4th line as a secondary checking line sometimes and Motte/Beagle have chemistry and work well with that. Also Mac doesn't look too out of place with them. All 3 have pretty decent chemistry and we probably don't want to mess with that because they've been good when we've had home ice advantage. So the only changes I would want to see is on the 3rd line. That said yeah Motter has been excellent. Can't believe we got him for a free asset in Vanek. Same age as Bo.
