David Poile stated he sees significant roster changes. This could present us with an opportunity to possible shed cap and acquire a decent player. Draft deal Nashville trades Viktor Arvidsson RW4.25M x 4 years Pekka Rinne G 5M x 1 year (2.5M retained) Alexandre Carrier RD 733K x 3 years 2020 2nd round pick (NJD 37th OA) Approximate overall cap 7.4M(with Carrier called up) Vancouver trades Jake Virtanen RW RFA 2020 Thatcher Demko G 1.05M x 1 year Jordie Benn LD/RD 2M x 1 year Sven Baertschi LW 3.366M x 1 year(2.366M buried). Approximate overall cap 6.4M + RFA in Virtanen (1M less if Baertschi is buried). Having lost Hamhuis, Benn becomes a cheap option in the top 6. Virtanen will come cheaper than Arvidsson, allowing them more flexibility come FA. Preds gain a good goal-tending future in Demko/Saros. Overall it'll shed cap where they need to and replaces those players with cheaper/younger talent which benefits them moving forward. Carrier becomes waiver eligible next year and they already have Fabbro/Ellis as their top 4 RD and the more defensive Allard in the AHL with him who's still on his ELC. Vancouver solves goal-tending problem come expansion draft. Rinne backs up Marky for a year then DiPietro backs up. Arvidsson becomes a cheaper top 6 RW option than Toffoli which helps our team as our younger players will need new deals. Gain a RD prospect who can compete for a top 6 RD spot come training camp at a extremely cheap contract if he makes it. We recoup a 2nd round pick we lost for Toffoli. Is it fair? who needs to add and by how much?

How's the hockey fan base in Salt Lake City?

Okay, Save the Laffs..PLEASE!

Listening to SD and PK Subban talk about the Laffs/PK things made me realize that Subban is gonna have a great post-career. I wouldn't mind seeing him with Bieksa on the panel. -
Yeah he was successful at that once and it was with Miller. Perhaps he pushed off one side of Tanev, making him stumble, rather than pushing him dead center. Tanev was in stride too and is lighter than Miller. Overall it was a split second misread by Hughes since Tanev looked like he was keeping up with Schwartz till that point. I am sure next time he will try to process it better and see, whether or not his teammate can keep up or take the risk and give him a boost. Hughes made up for that on the PP.

I am not discrediting the AHL time. I am just stating the fact that, in this point in Mac's development, he couldn't benefit from the AHL as much as he could being with the team. I doubt he would be playing in the playoffs right now if he wasn't with the team all year. He was in that grey area and the spot of 13th/extra forward paid dividends for his development into an NHL player.

Pearson is making a good case to be re-signed in 2021. Dude just meshes so well with Bo and plays well when it matters.

I actually just noticed this but on that 2nd goal we gave up Hughes actually tried using his stick to push Tanev ahead and actually ended up making Tanev stumble. That goal was mostly on Hughes since, if you watch the play, Tanev looked like he was gonna be able to check Schwartz until Hughes made him stumble. It was a misplay on Hughes's part. Huggy played a good game regardless but I gotta put blame where it's due.

Is the season a success no matter what else happens?
Junkyard Dog replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
Highlights The 1st we gave up for Miller isn't a lottery We made the playoffs after winning a 5 game series. The young players looked great in the series. The veterans looked great in the series. OJ made debut and played good even though he played little and Rathbone signed.. ^^^ Sets up excitement for next season, especially if the Veterans can carry their play over. Only real negative thing, more so unfortunate, is the fact we might lose Toffoli(who we spent assets on) but the pro's outweigh that. Also Tryamkin not signing but, like Toffoli, that's more unfortunate than a negative we can fault someone on. A lot went right that had to go right. It's more of a win than a loss and we still aren't done. Bonuses(don't count): The Leafs and Oilers MISSED THE PLAYOFFS AND DIDN'T WIN THE LOTTERY!!! -
We might be lucky though. Covid situation with cap will probably bring the $$$ down in a lot of deals for everyone. So by the time the Covid situation ends, fans can come back in and the cap ceiling can go back up will could have our younger players on pretty ideal deals. That's like 1-3 years away from now though.

I think just being around the team during the playoffs is helpful for him. You learn players tendencies and the teams systems. Coaches weed out the bad tendencies and help round out your game. You practice with NHLers and are in game-like scenarios with NHLers. Sometimes you play and see how far you come. Being around the team paid huge dividends for MacEwen rather than playing in the AHL. Dude's totally bought in and is playing good hockey. In this case you could say being around the team will greatly benefit OJ come next training-camp.

Just as I have stated. Streaky player. Biggest issue is consistency away from the puck. Has the tools to be a fore-checking god and doesn't utilize them as much as he could. Look at players like Motte and Mac who do more with less going for them. Even Gaudette, who has less than 1/2 of Virtanen's NHL experience and is just as streaky, puts more of a consistent effort despite being more of a raw talent. Virtanen is gonna have to be able to be more consistent and soon. There's gonna be a lot of talent coming up down the line and Mac's already proving to be a bottom 6 staple.

Imagine his shot. Might rival Matthews once he packs on muscle.

It's not just because of Laf, it's because of what you get for Matthews. Having Laf would give them enough flexibility to make that sort of move in order to get that great return. No Laf no flexibility Trading Matthews would net you a return like Chychrun, Hayton +++. That's a young top 4 D, a top prospect and more. Having two young guys like Hayton, Laferriere on top of Marner/Tavares would be a good forward group. Then you throw in a top 4 D in Chychrun and you might be able to get another top 4 D with Nylander+. Overall you lose offense(that slowly improves) but make incredible strides with a new and greatly improved D-core. And on top of that you gain cap flexibility. You can sign someone and take advantage of the ELC's of the young stars to help make the team better short term. Like I said. Having 33M in 3 players will not succeed long term. It is a huge anchor. Cap isn't gonna go down soon. Winning the lotto could be a lifesaver and allow them to make this sort of move.

As I mentioned my idea above wouldn't happen unless they won the lottery. All those things about Matthew are correct which is why he'd net an incredible return. I also said to trade Nylander as well. They're almost 19M together. 33M in 3 players isn't gonna help long term. Just trading Nylander will likely not be enough. If they don't win the lottery however there's not much to do.
