  1. This could turn into a case of give an inch they'll take a mile. I don't see how this helps them or the surrounding area.
  2. Gaud still streaming COD Warzone on twitch if everyone is interested in watching. He doesn't talk to chat much but it is cool to hang out with. Twitch handle is hockey_gaud
  3. Sounds like he was playing dumb to deflect. If he has a mask on but not utilized he definitely knows better and didn’t want to take full responsibility for his screw up.
  4. That was back in 2018. Since then both players ice time went down. In Stechers case we finally had a decent top 4 to push him down.
  5. That’s pretty good praise by the head coach. It sounds like OJ has had a pretty good attitude and mindset throughout this whole process.
  6. Will the Jets Canucks game on the 29th be televised?
  7. Is the Jets Canucks game on the 29th gonna be televised?

Heard it's on BCTV w/ Haircut McGeachie & Howie Meekly!(lucky us)

  8. And we had a pretty bad 3rd pair all year and a lot of us were talking about wanting to seek upgrades there. Covid happened and we can't do that and now some people want to rely on a rookie to replace Tanev as if that's a safe bet? We aren't in a full rebuild. We're trying to take that next step. We need to ice a good team to do that. People also seem to forget that when we have a good team we set a high bar for young players to make. If you get rid of Tanev without replacing him you're lowering the bar for rookie defenseman. Praying that Loui retires and we can re-sign everyone but what I see happening is us moving out picks to shed some contracts and clear cap. I feel JB is comfortable enough with our prospect group to do that and I feel he wants Toffoli, Tanev and Marky back next year. It would suck but it might be necessary to be the best we can be next year. JB could land another rookie FA like Stecher/Mac/Rafferty(possible) that could help offset the loss of picks but nothing is guaranteed. Covid's definitely throwing a wrench in our plans but that's the new environment for everybody.
  9. If Tanev walks and no there's no replacement than we won't be as good next year. Can't expect young guys to play at or above his level as rookies. IDK about you guys but I don't want Leafs-like D. Need a good overall team.
  10. Most of the time players have loyalty to teams who put faith and picked them, even if they are college players. It's especially more meaningful if they're later picks and were passed on by teams. You could grow up cheering for said teams that passes on you a few times than have another team use a pick, be very happy that they have gotten you and see you as an integral part of their future. Gaud, Hughes and Boes never bolted. Hell Gaud even admitted to cheering for Boston in 2011.
  11. There's also the possibility of Gaudette not panning out at C and converting to RW. Something to keep an eye on.
  12. I want him to win but IMO I feel Makar had a bit of a better year. The advantage of a better team and a year of age make that understandably so to me. The main thing to take out of what I said was that I think both players are at the same level despite Hughes being a year younger. Long-term I feel Hughes has the potential to have more of an impact. Especially considering that he plays a much more different style the NHL has seen and I think it's gonna improve with time. Hence why if I am given a choice between the two I pick Hughes.
  13. Thing is Hughes has zero rights in his next contract. We don't have to worry about an offer-sheet. What I see happening is a bridge deal like Boeser where his next qualifying offer will be a pretty good amount. So a 5-6M 2-3 year deal with a 8M+ qualifying offer seems likely to me.
  14. Yeah he wouldn't be allowed to work out whatsoever so getting into game shape should be a focus right now for him if he's ready for it.
  15. Makar's on ice save percentage(92.2) was better than Hughes(90.5). In terms of offensive numbers Makar produces a lot more 5v5. His points per 60 is 1.81 while Hughes is 1.26 Hughes has a slightly better PP points per 60 at 5.8 compared to Makar's 5.37 Their puck possession stats are nearly identical however Makar has a better on ice goals for 5v5 at 61.2% compared to Hughes is 51.3% They both were on the ice for 62 goals at even strength for but Hughes was scored on more at even strength and Hughes was on the ice for more goals against than he was for goals for 62-69= -7 at even strength while Makar was 62-47= +15 at even strength. That's just the stats. Watching both players they have a very similar amount of importance on their teams. Takeaway Makar and Hughes the Canucks and Avs are different teams. Overall Makar had the better year offensively and had better numbers defensively as well so he'll likely win. If Hughes was with the Avs he'd probably win. A bit of a team difference with the Avs being a top 5 team in GF and GA while the Canucks were a top 10 team in GF and 13th in GA. It can be heavily argued that Makar is the biggest reason why the Avs are in top 5 in both category too since having a D like him is gonna increase your offense and help free up others for more defensive responsibility just like how Hughes did with Edler. The extra year experience over Hughes also is an advantage Makar has in terms of development. Had Hughes been a year older he could of had a better year possibly. IMO both are at the same level but are different players. One is more of an explosive sniper from the point while the other is a silky smooth playmaker. Both players are phenoms and both teams are incredibly lucky. Neither player is bad defensively but there's definitely room for improvement there. All that said I would rather have Hughes long term and hope he wins but it's a coin flip in Makar's favor
  16. A lot of faith in that 3rd line. I bet the 4th will play more on the road.
  17. It's either a high pick or quality young player/prospect to help shed cap unfortunately. Could see a player like Demko/Gaud go or a prospect like OJ/Lind if we are not willing to get rid of 1sts/2nds
  18. Would be nice if he blows expectations and makes the team. He'll be given the shot too. However we are fortunate enough where he is not needed even if he is really close. Especially with guys like Tryamkin or even Brisebois who is at the point in his career where we he needs a solid look to see where he's at. Then we have the enigma of OJ who's a possible dark horse among our prospects. If OJ proves he's capable of being a top 4 and Rathbone proves good then we have a good problem of an abundance of LD though perhaps one of them can switch to the right side like Tryamkin is capable of. I am happy that we're pretty set on the left side. Hoping we can acquire a solid RD prospect with Woo/Tryamkin(if he's needed there). I see Woo possibly being a physical top 6 RD like Dillon who is capable of playing in the top 4. Tryamkin is also a sort of an enigma in terms of potential but is a defensive D for sure. A solid 2-way RD with some offensive flare should be a target for this franchise on top of trying to find another solid LW with Lind/Pod/Boes/Virtanen/Gaudette(if he doesn't make it as a C) making up the right side.
  19. It was a much more solvable problem before Covid, with a cap that was projected to go up to 84-88M. Would be easier to makes moves to shed cap. Now the cap could stay still at 81M for the next few years. That's why a compliance buyout would of been useful but they are not happening.
