  1. Then my question is how did it get harder? How does that particular incident, that you've taken no context out of, make it harder? Regardless of whether or not the guy acquired his gun legally or illegally? Regardless of the context of the entire situation? How does it relate to a gun ban? Especially if he did acquire his gun illegally? I don't think you understand that if this guy acquired his gun illegally it really doesn't make it harder for anyone pro-gun because, like everyone, they're against that. They would be on your side on that too. It's essentially the same as saying video games cause violence but if you don't have anything to back it up then you lack credibility. You need facts and evidence to back up what you say otherwise I might as well say there's nothing inherently wrong with smoking weed or drinking when you're a young teenager, the evidence in regards to brain development doesn't matter. You see how ridiculous it can sound?
  2. Oh if you're stating that people are gonna use this regardless of whether or not it is right or wrong to use then I totally agree. The progressive left are gonna be able to spin this and manipulate people easily. That's a problem I have with Canada today, we seem to do that a lot.
  3. I am just stating we need all the context before proclaiming that something looks bad for a certain group. Otherwise you may be false in your proclamation. If the guy had a gun that was legally obtained it would look bad but if he didn't and the gun was obtained illegally than the pro-gun activists would be in agreement that illegal guns are bad. Unless you're indirectly stating that pro-gun people like illegal guns which I highly doubt you're because only the criminals like illegal guns. That's why facts are important when making such a claim. Blindly making any sort of sentiment isn't the right thing to do and could potentially have unwittingly negative consequences directed at the people across the table. Simply put, you can make anyone look bad but make sure you're in the right when you do and not in the wrong.
  4. It has been stated that pro-gun people want to target illegal guns that come from the US. The ones criminals the obtain before committing crime like Nova Scotia shooter. Creating a better task force and joint operation with the US to strengthen the border and target explicit goods would more than likely be the most productive way to stop criminals from getting guns rather than banning some of the guns they don't use anyway.
  5. Context is important. Facts are important whenever you're making a case for anything. Is the dude a life-long criminal? Was the gun he used an assault rifle? Was the gun he used legally obtained? Why did he act that way? What were the events that lead to this incident? These are all important questions if someone wants to spin this in a bad way for pro-gun activists, especially after a ban of certain types of guns.
  6. Depends the context for it to be bad timing. Certainly a awful incident when cops have to unload 30-40 rounds to off a dude and a cop gets seriously hurt.
  7. At least security will have it easier when post fight scrums happen if they do. Usually hell to get into the Octo when the place is packed.
  8. Looks like he needs to do the call of shame and apologize to Pearson and his wife. No texting that's cheating.
  9. I think Stecher is an average top 6 D. Tryamkin does have a lot more attributes that would contribute to success here and to the team than Stech easy. Stech is not as big, intimidating, or can cover as much area as Tryamkin. We hardly saw Stecher on any special teams which is why his TOI is so low whereas I can easily see Tryamkin as a PKer. So in terms of Stecher or Tryamkin I would pick Tryamkin 100% of the time, we desperately need more bigger tougher D and Stecher is far from that. In terms of my expectations, I have stated on this thread people need to ease there own because it'll create misconceptions of how good Tryamkin will be based on bias. I see him coming back and starting as a top 6 defenseman at first and the rest is up to him. It's extremely unpredictable how good he'll be but IMO it's safe to say he's gonna be effective in the top 6.
  10. Kind of a trickle up effect. If any young player proves capable of playing at or better than Virtanen/Boeser's level we have ourselves a good problem. We would have a surplus of forwards and if defense is still an issue by the time Pod/Hog/Lind prove capable, which could take 2-3 years, then we have a means of addressing it. We have the patience to wait for that sort of move. See which guys fit what we have moving forward and make deals based off that. Reason why Pod/Hog/Lind have an advantage to stay if they step up is because they'd be on relatively cheap contracts for the next 4-6 years. Boeser's is gonna make 7.5 at least after 2 more seasons and Jake could ask for a lot in the next 3 seasons. Trading a rookie forward for a rookie D is a bad idea. Nobody would trade a top prospect defenseman for any prospect forward. They have a lot more value than a top prospect forward so in any deal we'd more than likely be giving up the best player. You're gonna get more value when you trade a Boeser or a Virtanen, more so Boeser IMO. Also eliminates a ELC at forward for one at D whereas a better deal would be to get rid of cap while adding an ELC. Like a Boeser for Byram+.
  11. Having both Tanev and Tryamkin is the way to go if we want to see actual improvement to the D-core next year.
  12. Damn. During Demko's twitch stream 3-4 weeks ago Mac talked about him getting a surgery and hoping that he improves from there on out.
  13. Pretty much. Also have to consider the FA variable. As the guys we plan on not re-signing are rid of(via not re-signing, trading, buyouts) cap opens up to be used on areas of the roster that need bolstering. As young ELC players start to get incorporated more cap opens up. Forward wise we probably won't need to sign anyone significant besides in the bottom 6 after this FA but I can see us signing a solid D 2-4 years dafter this year. Really depends on how Edler performs and whether we are able to re-sign Tanev. 4 years after this season would be when Myers is gone and he's gonna need a replacement while 2 years we are gonna have to see where Edler's at. Hopefully in the meantime 1-2 young D step up making it less of a concern. Also the trade factor we both previously talked about with Boeser/Virtanen. If Lind/Pod/Hog step up and prove they can play at or better than Boeser/Virtanen's level than we have a surplus. D market is always changing and who knows who'll be available moving forward, could be a real nice add. Essentially we have a lot of potential options and have no need to make rushed decisions besides maybe with the goaltending in regards to Seattle, which is unrelated. We're a year away from that at least and I think a side deal can be done to keep both. We're in a good position as an organization. We may hit a few bumps in the road but we're trending upwards.
  14. Personally I feel it was more of a react than a read and react. If he came out and stated that they're beginning a task force with the purpose of strengthening our borders and cracking down on illegal goods coming out of the US, handing out harsher penalties and running a joint op with the US we'd all be in agreement. That's where I would have started. It's probably gonna happen though anyway but he could've prevented the uproar. I don't think Liberals care about that though. Either way FPSRussia ain't coming here anytime soon.
  15. My opinion is that with 1500 types of firearms you could get some that might not belong in that group. I don't think it would be a major issue to take them off if they did. We might differ on whether or not people can just get a different gun. Where I stand is that the people that feel if they're certain gun, whether it be a hunting/pest type of rifle is on the list and they don't agree with it then it's fine to make that sort of argument as long as they have the evidence to support why their preferred gun doesn't belong on the ban list. I think that's perfectly fine and wouldn't be surprised if some got taken off as long if evidence is proven. Are you saying that has already passed those three steps? I understand that the HoC was in agreement that it needed to be shortened when they do come back. If MPs, outlets and people are stating that they weren't able to debate this in the HoC that it is possible that steps weren't taking in the process of passing this bill given the circumstances with Covid? I can't help but have skepticism with this entire process, given the circumstances of Covid, and personally I care more about that a lot but perhaps I can find something the more I read to clarify.
  16. I thought parliament was shut down a while ago which the rare come together for like the wage subsidy bill back in early April. Also that it was always a shortened council. The argument is that no one was able to debate this in the HoC which is what MPs are saying. It seems pretty valid the more I read up on it. Would you be in agreement that if there are some guns on the ban list, I mean 1500 are a lot, that shouldn't be on it to take them off? Personally I feel, in time, some probably will be taken off. It wouldn't be major in the grand scheme.
  17. Alright thanks for clarifying where you stand. We agree on how it could of been done better or even before we considered this sort of ban. I think parties always want to grow and solidify their audience that agree with them year round, regardless of whether or not we are a ways away from an election. I think that's a natural thing politicians do. Yeah they do turn it up to 11 by the time a new campaign needs to start. Is it true that Trudeau passed this legislation when the Liberal party effectively shut down parliament due to Covid? That might be what people are getting at when saying it is undemocratic. I haven't experience too much of the other side to say that some may be overboard with it as you say. So I am not saying that you're wrong with people calling it communistic/dictatorial, that is kind of ridiculous a sentiment to have. However it could be considered inappropriate timing given the circumstances. I have also read that a lot of these talking points were already written into law. That for decades real assault rifles and high capacity magazines were already prohibited. That some real hunting rifles and even in some cases pest rifles are on the ban list. If that's truly the case then this ban may be overboard to a degree.
  18. In regards to Edler he's a lot older and could perhaps start regressing before Tanev as well. It would work out well because Rath/OJ can start to take up that responsibility as that happens. I do think we re-sign Edler short term in 2021 but I feel his next contract may be his last, he'd be 35 by the time he needs one. Still having Tanev after Edler's gone will help since most of the guys we have in the system play the left side. By the time Tanev's new contract is close to expiring Myers will be as well, if we sign him to 4ish years which I want. Both are essentially stop gaps until we are able to trade or draft another solid RD.
  19. Short 2 year show me deal around 2.5-3ish million. Would expire when Beagle/Roussel/Eriksson contract's are up and we can definitely sign him long term then. Sign Gaud to a similar 2 year deal but we can sign him to a less cap hit probably due to the fact he has no RFA rights.
  20. Apples and Oranges though. People mainly just don't see the point when there are better solutions available. At least that's a part of my reasoning. I also see this as a political ploy to attract more of the progressive left and for good PR. I will state that I am not a fan of those sort of tactics from both sides.
  21. Haha I know you joking but it isn't a terrible idea compared to the idea passed. I do like Scheer's response to the ban even though I dislike him as a conservative myself.
  22. It kind of plays into what I was saying that having an overall better D-core lessens the minutes/responsibility making it easier for everybody. Throw in a better top 6 that can be relied upon more than you're gonna have more of that effect. Lets say Rafferty steps up and can handle 2nd unit PP duties, lessening the load for a Myers. A Tryamkin can be a key PKer allowing us to rely more on others 5v5. I do think I make a solid point here. I want Tanev back because I feel we need an upgrade on D better than last year. Losing Tanev would make us worse or close to on par at best which wasn't good enough in front of Marky/Demko this year. If we want to take a step forward we gotta improve and losing Tanev wouldn't help us in that regard. Also Tanev was pretty healthy all year, hard to use his past injuries as a reason to move on when in the past it was him and Edler eating up a majority of major responsibilities and this year with better circumstances we got a better result, I don't expect that to change for the worst but in fact improve with a better top 6 like I mentioned. That said I understand a lot needs to happen with the cap, whether that be compliance buyouts and/or making trades(Benn/Sutter/Baer/Eriksson/etc) so time can change my opinion due to the necessity of the circumstances given.
  23. He'd start on the 3rd pairing but it would probably not be a 15 minute pairing, more of a 18 minute pairing if Tryamkin's partner proves more capable than Stech/Benn/Fanta. That would be an extreme improvement if we're able to have a more reliable 3rd pairing next year. It creates a trickle up effect where our top 4 doesn't have to be relied on more, see how Tanev's health and game improved with Myers acquisition.
  24. Not sure how a gun ban changes anything. Contributing more to a task force that strengthens our borders and stopping illegal firearms from coming in from the USA. Create harsher punishment for having and smuggling illegal firearms. Also revamping the RCMP and learning from our mistakes. No way a guy should be able to get by as a cop. The gun ban just seems like a political ploy. I don't even own a gun but I feel most people can come up with a better solution. Also isn't the government under lockdown due to the virus? How can you pass any sort of legislation with an empty HoC?
  25. Thing is if you can't really trade Boeser when Pod/Hog have yet to prove him expendable. We can't act like they have when they haven't. You think we have to trade Boeser for a D asap when we really don't. If we do that's a desperate move and rushing for a deal isn't gonna get us a good one. We actually have the patience to see if these young kids can step up and prove he's expendable and to also wait for the perfect deal. A lot of things have yet to transpire. We also have OJ Tryamkin and Rath in the wings. We get a compliance buyout or move out contracts we don't have to wait to replace Tanev cause we will just re-sign him. Been great and healthy this year with Hughes, who even thanks Tanev for a lot of his progression. Why try to split up that pairing if given the chance to save it? Also half the D you've mentioned would never be moved and the other half isn't worth Boeser. Only guy really available is Risto or maybe Byram if you're willing to take a chance on a top prospect who hasn't played.
