PREDICT THE SCORE CONTEST: Blue Jackets @ Canucks March 8th 2020
Junkyard Dog replied to goalie13's topic in Canucks Talk
If it’s not too late 5-2 Canucks Petey with the gwg -
Matthews also plays with amazing players like Marner, Tavares. Leagues best offence. Matthews has 2 more years in the league on Petey. It usually takes elite players 4-5 years to reach their full potential ie Eichel/Mackinnon/Pastrnak. Petey also has the disadvantage of being underweight which not a lot of elite players had coming in. Wait 2-3 more seasons when Petey reaches that potential and has an NHL body he might be an Art Ross contender.

Pettersson in a few years could end up a much better player overall. Matthews will probably be one of the best goal scorers but I can see Petey being an Art Ross threat more so.

[Discussion] Barrie vs Schultz...July 1
Junkyard Dog replied to 86Viking's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Barrie vs Schultz? How about Dillon vs Edmundson instead. -
Amazingly he is still 23 years old. Could turn into a Kassian-type player but less meaner.
-
He hands his hands full. If he succeeds he could re-sign everyone and bring in a couple pieces that could really help us. If Ferland comes back that's a guy who brings in a extremely good physical presence, protects our stars and provides some secondary scoring. If he doesn't that's 3.5M in cap but he's the type of player we need so I am hoping for him.
-
Oh yeah. Most complete top prospect we've had since Bo. Another year away though which I don't have a problem with I would add more though. Too many guys who are one demensional in our bottom 6. Sutter/Eriksson/Roussel. Motte and Beagle should be the main stays defensively and we have to start to give checking opportunities to Virtanen/Gaudette. I love bottom 6 players who hit/score(hopefully Virtanen/Mac) defensive/hit(Motte) defensive/score(hopefully Gaud). Beagle is pretty good defensively and on the draw so I am good with him, especially since he knows what it takes to win(WSH cup and tons of playoff games).

Roussel brought a more physical presence and a bit of secondary scoring last year. He has been a disappointment this year. Not as physical and hasn't been scoring as much despite playing on a good secondary scoring line with Gaud/Virtanen a lot. He's on the list of guys I would move to clear cap but he's far from the top. Eriksson/Sutter/Baer/Benn then probably him.
-
Probably. Players would bring a good physical presence consistently are called energy guys/spark plugs for a reason and having someone who plays that way inspires you to up your game. All you gotta do is look at a guy like Motte and see what he does for the 4th line. IMO we need more of it on top of Zac. Could inspire a guy like Virtanen to up his game physically.

Mac is an old-school guy but he has some skill offensively. Could turn into a less meaner Kassian. We need more guys who are more than one dimensional in our bottom 6. Sutter/Eriksson are defensive guys only and to be effective in this league you have to be really good at one thing or bring a couple aspects fairly well.
-
Not attacking you if that's how you feel. Just stating how I feel about him and am looking toward the off-season where we will have to get rid of some guys and reshape the bottom 6 fwds/top 6 D. He's one of the guys I would consider moving but he's not at the top of that list Eriksson>Sutter/Baer/Benn>Roussel. Want guys who bring more in to surround Gaud/Virtanen with and want to lock up Toffoli/Tanev/Marky.
