PREDICT THE SCORE CONTEST: Coyotes @ Canucks March 4th 2020

2-1 ARZ in OT. Zona scores first Hall -
Thought I was in the Lind thread. Clearly the Demko one. Sorry for intruding.

Why would they though? He grew up loving the Leafs. Should the Leafs not of drafted Matthews? He credits the Coyotes to the reason he played hockey? Should we have not drafted Hughes because he was a fan of the Leafs? What about Jett Woo who was a huge Jets fan, parents even had a custom made classic Jets jersey of him? What about Gaudette who was a Boston fan and even admitted to cheering for them in 2011? What about Boeser? He has a lot of ties to Minnesota? If a team that wins the 1st overall that's not Ottawa or Montreal not draft Lafreniere because he is Quebecois and grew up in that area? Are you saying that we shouldn't draft anyone but Euros and NA players from the Pacific Northwest that like Vancouver?

[Proposal] Two draft-day trades
Junkyard Dog replied to NMHockey's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
If Detroit doesn't draft top 3 I can see them drafting Askarov(top 10 goalie). They could still trade for Demko but IDK if they give them a high 2nd, maybe Washington's 2nd. -
Not sure they make an immediate impact like Hughes, Boeser and Petey. I see them more as a Gaud/Virtanen who need a few years which there's nothing wrong with. Pod was thought out to be a top 5 pick if he wasn't committed to Russia. 10 points in last 15 KHL games(including playoffs) is a pretty great feat for the man-child. He's definitely turning into a top 10 NHL prospect and could take the cake and be #1 next year. Also given the fact that his game is extremely rounded out it serves him well.
-
Buffalo also hands out big contracts like nothing AKA Skinner. Eichel turned out well for them though. If Canucks were smart they'd sign Petey long-term this off-season where they can get him lower than 10M for sure. That way they don't risk him potentially taking that next step next year and having to pay him more.
-
Looking like another potential Calder nod if he continues his progress. If he comes into the league like Boes, Petey and Hughes and makes a immediate impact then we're gonna be real set at forward.
-
I disagree slightly. Defense can be taught but it is on the player to learn as much, if not more, than the coaches to teach. Mainly has to do with forwards though. Gaud and Virtanen can definitely round out their games, especially Gaud if we're set at him on 3rd line C. Defenseman are different though so you're not necessarily wrong. Also team structure/defense is a lot on the coaches as well but that's going more in depth with it.

I don't think they will sign that high out of their ELC. Hughes has zero rights in his RFA year and defenseman never go that high off of their ELC. Petey's been good but so far he hasn't proven worth 10+. If it weren't for Miller his production would be lower. I do think we should lock of Petey before he takes that next step like Eichel and Mackinnon did.
-
Gaud gonna need to round out game. Hog probably gonna step into AHL for a year at least. Don't think you want 2 young guys on the same line who're just establishing themselves. We're trying that with Gaud/Virtanen now and they have to be sheltered.

The Canucks without Hughes are like ...........
Junkyard Dog replied to Dumb Nuck's topic in Canucks Talk
Buying a pie but finding out it has no filling. Could say something similar with Petey too. Both guys are instrumental moving forward. -
If we don't have a good home-stand then he should strongly be considered to be let go. Coaching change might not save the season with the injury to Markstrom but it could turn things around and it would make us better moving forward. We have the offense already but the team needs to play better team D. Passive 5v5 defense play isn't gonna get us far. We have a decent top 4 but they and the forwards don't play great in front of our goalies with this current system.

Headline makes him look cocky. Doubt he meant to come across as such.

I see him re-signing Goldy and/or Boucher for Utica/depth. Both are RFA's. Maybe not both for cap reasons but I can see one.
