  1. He'd have to score 12 goals in that span which means he'd have to play really well. 25 goals is much more attainable for him.
  2. Dunno. JB and co are pretty good at finding good prospects anywhere in the draft. We need people now and moving forward though. I think Benning wants a large window of opportunity/success. If we manage to somehow keep Toffoli/Tanev/Markstrom we'd be set up for the next 4 years with prospects blossoming and being added. It would help our core take that next step for sure. A 4 year window of success and time for guys like Pod/Hog/Juo/Lind/Rath or whoever we draft in the meantime to develop into NHLers and/or established NHLers(with some experience). That in turn would extend the window of success and perhaps make it greater of one. Forward-wise we're pretty locked. We got a lot of good pieces making up the core already and good ones on the shelf too. Defense-wise we got one guy and a few good pieces on the shelf. May be an area of concern on D but if we lock up Tanev for a bit it would by us time we kind of need to figure that out. I feel as if that's the plan in place. If all works out then we could be more successful then the Sharks were making the playoffs all those years. Really have to make some cap room moving forward. Sutter/Baer. If Eriksson retired it would solve a lot of issues but that's wishful thinking. Fortune needs to be on our side a bit moving forward with the cap.
  3. Hopefully Eriksson retires and/or Baer/Sutter are moved. Sign a Reaves, Martin would be helpful too. Bottom 6 too soft. Hopefully Ferland is healthy next year too. Hate for his career to end.
  4. I think he gets the Big Mac treatment. Main call up and sticks around when injuries happen. Groom him to be a regular the following year. Benning said he sees Mac as a regular next year.
  5. Only thing he has to watch out for is that if he tries that $&!# up here we don't really have anyone to protect him from answering the bell. Marchand can pull that $&!# all he wants, he has big back up. Canucks need to acquire that then we'd be more dangerous
  6. That was kind of before he turned into whatever he was now. I'd do it if Eriksson doesn't retire and there was retention on their part.
  7. Boeser for J.Hughes Hischier and Severson. Getter done JB this is the year.
  8. I am not sure. Weighing the odds we have a healthy D-core and an unhealthy top 9 with our best RWer out. We were also screaming for a winger for Bo before that. Teams a lot better if we have Virtanen on the 3rd line due to depth. Only thing we can bring in on D is a top 6 one. Gotta say top 6 forward outweighs a top 6 D given all those facts. Rebuilds not over but it's as close to being over than it has ever been. Most of the spots we need filled are filled and those are mostly at forward. We have a lot of depth in and we're gonna continue building around that depth through the draft and FA's. Benning has stated he feels that there are 7 guys that can be in the NHL within 3 years and has gone on to say that there will young guys in every year from now on. That doesn't even account for who we will pick up in the meantime. Baer can literately be had for nothing because his value is at an all time low. He's a project player at this point. Sutter is a bit weird because of his health but if he can end the year healthy he could garner interest but not much in return. When healthy he's a bottom 6 checker who produces secondary scoring which is valued. Odds our if we trade him and Baer we are gonna probably re-sign Toffoli. Toffoli isn't just a scorer, LA used him on a PK. A 2nd line of Pearson/Horvat/Toffoli can be used defensively and offensively. Beagles line would probably still take up most of the match up role allowing others to flourish. Despite what you say Beagles been a key figure defensive and a part of the reason why we are high among the league in faceoff wins. Also we're gonna need Gaud and Virtanen to get use to checking roles at some point. Gaud's line can't be filler long-term. That's on Green though. Start of next season we should start seeing Virtanen and importantly Gaud be used on the PK. Beagle isn't gonna be here forever.
  9. 3rd rounder too. We seem to have success there. Gotta watch out for some College/CHL FAs this year, I expect JB to get some with the lack of picks we got this year. ZMac CHL FA and Rafferty NCAA FA the notables.
  10. He was 155 in December last report I saw. I am not gonna go that low to say decent career in Europe lol but I am not gonna go to high for him either. Good B prospect but a ways away.
  11. Depends what he wants to do. Cali teams are on the downswing. If he wants to win he's not gonna be able to do it in Cali. Should be interesting to keep an eye on.
  12. How is the fact that Petey and Hughes were drafted top 10 because of their elite skill and Madden wasn't hindsight bias? It's a matter of fact. They're better players for a reason unless you're suggesting otherwise? I am not discrediting what Madden has done he has promise. He is a good B prospect. He could have a career. But he isn't a sure thing. Petey and Hughes were sure things, they proved that, that's is why they were drafted so high and Petey definitely proved that smashing records in his D+1. Is Madden having a Petey-level season in his D+1? Success in the NCAA doesn't always mean success in the NHL. Weight's gonna hold Madden back a few years. He's gonna have to get bigger. Those issues are worse on him than they are Petey/Hughes and he isn't nearly as good as them. With how things are going this year with prospects you could make a list and have him outside of the top 5 prospects on this team. Personally I have Hog and Pods ahead and Lind, Rafferty, Rathbone have been making good cases as well, so you could. That right there shows the amount of depth we have. Funny enough Benning put Boucher ahead of Baer and didn't even mention Goldobin when asked about the depth we have in Utica. Are they better than Toffoli? Would they have a better chance at replacing what Boeser brings than Toffoli? Shouldn't be hard to weigh the odds there. There's also the argument that Bo needs a staple on his line but TT is gonna play with Petey/Millsy which shows that they want someone better than Virtanan there or want enough depth that Virtanen is one the lesser lines. Well to re-sign him JB is gonna have to put in a lot of work. Trading Baer/Sutter between now and the draft is now a must. We gotta see what the plans are with Ferland and Eriksson, whether or not none, one or both retire. Does Tryamkin come back and how good is he if he does? There are a lot of variables around it that's for certain and the only other certain thing is it'll be interesting to watch.
  13. If this deal was in the GM section with the knowledge that Boeser, Leivo and Ferland are out for the rest of the year, 3 top 9 guys, I'd personally want a top 6 player. Otherwise we risk losing a chance at success and wasting a year. What kind of message does that send to the roster players like our young players or FAs like Marky and Tanev? Did you hear when Benning said that he sees "conservatively" 7 players making the roster next 3 years? He said he's very comfortable with the depth and even considers Madden as a winger when asked about the depth at C. Yeah Petey and Hughes had weight issues but they are also top 10 picks with weight issues. They are elite skill hence why they were drafted so high. If Madden was elite he'd be drafted a lot higher but he isn't at their level. He's talented but not Petey/Hughes talented or even the best prospect we have. You can't use that argument because actual top end prospects had even less glaring weight issues. Yeah we have glaring issues on the blueline with our top 6 D but that doesn't discount our injury issues in our top 9 forwards with 3 guys out. FTR I want us to re-sign Toffoli because he makes us a better team moving forward. A lot has to happen with the cap.
  14. Any reports on that still? Heard he didn't want to give up picks but I can see lesser prospects for Simmonds. I heard Vatanen is sideline and Palmeri would cost a bit
  15. It's amazing to see people consider a solid B prospect a top prospect after he was traded too. Ignoring any issues like weight just because legitimate top 10 picks we've had were underweight too or the organizational depth we have to make such a move. Ignoring facts like how we got 3 guys out the rest of the year. I've seen people say Toffoli is gonna go back to play with him despite the Kings rebuilding and that he's gonna play 10+ years. I like Madden, he has a lot of promise but he is far from a sure thing and we could afford to make this deal.
  16. If we can maneuver the cap signing Toffoli to a 4 year deal would be ideal. Re-sign Pearson in 2021 to a 3 year deal. They both will end at the same time same age at 32. 4 more years of Toffoli and Pearson in their prime.
  17. I was just pointing out the fact that it doesn't always translate the way you think. He has promise but do you think he's honestly better than Hog or Pod or would get an opportunity ahead of them. What makes you think he's a top prospect? He can carry a team on his back but success in the NCAA isn't a sure thing, especially for people underweight. You can bring up Hughes and Petey but i'll just bring up where they were drafted. They are that damn high in the draft and that damn good. The fact of the matter is he does have it tough breaking this lineup. We have needs in the bottom 6 that he doesn't bring and we have guys ahead of him that bring more to the table for the top 6. He's also gonna take time physically. The NHL isn't an easy league. He isn't a top 10 pick who's underweight, he's a 3rd round pick. He's gonna have a lot more hurdles than most top 10 picks. Topple the fact that he'll take time with the possibility that in that time as he develops we draft/sign someone who better fits our team needs further rendering him down the depth charts. Point is, don't hang your hat on him playing 10 years when you are just speculating without considering every variable that goes with Madden and the Canucks as an organization. It doesn't make your points look good at all. Don't get me wrong I like Madden, or liked him as a prospect(until he was a king), but he has a lot more issues and flaws to deal with than most prospects have. That to me doesn't make him a sure thing and a top prospect to me is a sure thing. To me he has a lot of promise. Canucks wouldn't of traded him if they weren't comfortable with it. These are the guys who have people that watch him on a strict basis to see what they got. Even after Madden look at the centres behind him. Costmar's is blowing everyone's expectations as a 7th rounder having a killer season in Sweden's junior league, scored a goal during a SHL call up. It was stated here that Jasek ever since making the moved to center has been a key part of Utica. We arguably gave up our best piece at C but have some depth and with how good JB's drafting record is we shouldn't be uncomfortable, he can get a lot more promising players like Madden, he's gotten better at higher positions like Gaudette. Also the reason why we got Toffoli is because Boeser is out 3+weeks and Bo needs a 2nd line winger. He has chemistry with Pearson, so in theory there's a good chance it'll be a fit. We definitely can't complain about more goal scoring. It was never about size or grit, whoever made that point against you was mistaken. Also thanks for retorting a bit on if Toffoli re-signs. I really hope he re-signs cause we both agree it would be a better trade then. FYI I still think team grit needs to be addressed. bottom 6 needs a new look and we definitely need a defenseman.
  18. Yeah you the facts you made were pretty... Madden is definitely as touted and good as Hughes and Petey since weight doesn't matter and clearly where you are drafted doesn't either. You know a 3rd round pick is just as valuable as a 5th overall or 7th overall. Madden is definitely a top end prospect. NCAA is definitely better than professional leagues in Sweden or Russia. Playing against men in a pro league means nothing so he must be better than Hogs and Pods. I mean it's not like Motte was a Hobey Baker finalist, only good players get those nods. NCAA success is a lot more better than any other, clearly a top end prospect on our team It's definitely safe to say that Madden will play 10+ seasons too. He doesn't have any massive hurtles to overcome or anything and is definitely as touted as our other young guys who were underweight but drafted much higher than him, that means nothing. Madden could supply the bottom 6 grit we desperately need if we are overcrowded in the top 6. I mean i'd rather have Madden than a Reaves or Martin protecting Petey and bringing about a physical presence, who wouldn't with that 160lbs body. Also Toffoli won't re-sign here, I mean the Canucks won't even try, it's not like there was conditional pick stating that if he did re-sign LA would be compensated or anything to tell us otherwise. yeah
