He's had babysitting duties this year. Still is a PK leader though. Myers has been a key figure in letting him do that.
-
Next step is to shut him down for the year. LTIR. See more specialists, decide what's the next course of action for him. Hope that he can make a comeback next season. One more setback after that then he should stop for good.

He's the next best bet. Won't be for a while though. If he re-signs he'll be our only defenseman to play 1000 games for us. He was also with us during a SCF run and during our best success in team history. Everyone else who could be potential Jersey nods are just starting their careers here and who knows where it'll take them. Markstrom would have to stick with us for another 5+ years and sustain this level of play throughout most of it in order to be given a chance to outdo Luo/Kirk and get that sort of consideration. Big ask of him since the other two got us to game 7 of the SCF.

The biggest thing to me that off-sets all of this is how much value a 1st round pick has. It can be used to acquire much more bigger pieces than a goalie like Demko who's a big question mark. They also realize that we have ourselves in a situation where we have to make a deal to keep both or trade one goalie. Times against us. Also they can re-sign Dell who's put up similar numbers to Demko. He won't be much. If they traded a 1st for Demko their GM should be fired immediately, there fans would be in uproar. Really Demko doesn't fit what their scouts should be looking for unless he comes cheap. They would want Markstrom if we came to them and would try to send Jones our way. Personally I don't see SJS trading that pick for a goalie unless Jones is attached to it and they're getting a real good goalie back. They'll probably use that pick to acquire some scoring since goal scoring might be the only thing more dreadful than the goaltending in SJS. they're 28th in goals for. They're probably gonna make a Pittsburgh-like move.

Still have better options in FA for a bonafide starter. They either want to compete now or are going to rebuild eventually. A goalie like Demko is somewhere in between that and doesn't fit what they need. If they decide to rebuild they'll draft one and if they want to compete they'll sign one who's better and more proven, they can't afford question marks if competing. Firstly before anything they'd have to deal with Jones but I feel that they're gonna have to bank on him bouncing back. Nobody is gonna take that contract and they won't bring in any goalie they'll have to sign with him around. They'll end up with too much money tied up in goalies. So they have to stick with him and Dell unfortunately unless someone is willing to take Jones in any trade for a goalie.

Nobody will trade their 1st for Demko. They can sign or draft some of the promising goalies coming up like Askarov or Wallstedt. Why give up that much when they know we're handcuffed? Demko isn't no starter or stud like Schneider was. Teams have a lot more options. We might get like a 2nd at most. Expect to be lowballed.

Would you like to see Kesler in the Ring of Honour?
Junkyard Dog replied to iBlueGreen's topic in Canucks Talk
He's our all-time leader for defenseman and we don't have a defenseman up there yet. It is a safe bet for Edler to be up there eventually. Also a good chance he gets 1000 games if he re-signs with us. They definitely shouldn't retire Luongo's number if they didn't with McLean. I was a huge Luo fan growing up. My first Canuck's jersey was his and he was a big part of me playing goalie. Ultimately he played more with another team than with us, which you can't say about McLean, Kesler, Burrows or Bure when they left. Already has his Jersey retired in Florida. It would be the wrong move. -

IDK about that personally and big no to jersey retirement for Luo. Luongo's loyalties lie with Florida. That's the kicker to me. If he was given a choice between being a Panther or a Canuck it's a Panther all the way. The fact that Luongo is more connected to another team makes me feel iffy about giving him any sort of recognition like that. I appreciate what he's done, don't get me wrong. He's already has his number retired in Florida. I am iffy about Kesler too, don't get me wrong. Kesler wanted to win a Stanley Cup and felt that ANA was his best shot. That was ultimately his mindset and he felt that the Canucks were on the downturn, which we were. Ultimately they both wanted out didn't leave on the best of terms They're both equal in my eyes on where they're at when it comes to ROH. Edler is probably gonna get his Jersey retired or he at least has a pretty good chance of it happening. He's been our all-time best defenseman and a good benchmark for Hughes to try to beat in our record books. -
He is a lock on this team since he is a defensive guy with bite. Not a guy I see fighting but he plays bigger than he is(5'10") and he can PK too. He's almost like Dorsett minus the fighting. Keep in mind Motte is a month younger than Bo too. IDK if he's gonna have a mean streak but he definitely plays the body and isn't afraid of throwing down. He's young, only turning 24 in July. If he can develop a checking side to his game so he can be used on the PK he would be an invaluable part to this teams bottom 6.

Sutter will definitely have to be move with the cap we'll need this off-season. Whether we can afford to move him now or teams be willing to take a chance on him without seeing him healthy for a long stretch IDK. Leivo and Motte will probably be coming back in mid-March and Ferland near the end of this month.

( Report ) Weber done for season maybe for career
Junkyard Dog replied to Squamfan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Hope he gets better. Habs are my 2nd favorite team and Weber is one of my favorite players. -

Good question to ask his who is more deserving Luo or Kesler? Kesler handcuffed the team but Luo went back to the team he was more loyal too. -
If Benning is smart he'd throw in a NMC for the first couple seasons and sell Markstrom on that to cheapen the contract since he should already have zero intent on letting him go at the expansion. Then make a deal with Seattle to keep Demko.

Mac should stay with the team. He is not overly physical but he's been better than most of our bottom 6 in that regard. Still need a few guys that have some balls and love to throw the body consistently. Also someone that people will answer too if they try anything. Hopefully Ferland can come back and be that but his health might deter him from being our policeman. Tryamkin could add physicality to our D if he comes back and is good enough in the NHL to play. Benn has been better. Roussel hasn't been that and he should be. Sutter will probably be gone in the off-season because of cap and should be replaced with someone who plays that way. Schaller should be let go. Motte plays with a lot of heart and bite and should be re-signed since he is a defensive guy with some energy. If things go right with Ferland and Tryamkin then we would only need a couple more pieces in our bottom 6. Having that sort of bite and push back will trickle upwards toward our top 6 forwards and top 4 D creating that sort of mindset and making us a harder team to play against. They don't call them spark plugs/energy guys for nothing, it motivates players.
