Have you given up on this season. Let's take a poll!
Junkyard Dog replied to Ghostsof1915's topic in Canucks Talk
If viable I wouldn’t do that personally but it would be better than giving up a Pod. If we did decide to rebuild do you think we should completely tear down or try to keep certain few? Keeping Hog/Pod IMO is a given either way. Personally. I think with Petey/Hughes I would try to keep them but they could want out. You’d really have to sell the idea/vision which is easier said than done. Also the value/return Hughes/Petey have in a trade would be near insurmountable but they have that same value on the team. However I welcome them to prove my feelings of these current Canucks wrong this year and the following years but the past years and start of this one have waned on my faith with these players and with the direction of the team. -

I don’t mean to be bleak. I just don’t see the plan/vision with the organization as it stands. The only concrete plan is either compete if you can or rebuild. Getting stuck in the middle is purgatory IMO, the longer you spend there the worse it is. Hence why I am of the mindset of rebuild if this core can’t do it. This is the best roster since the bubble. We’ve spent enough time in the middle. If Foote came cheap sure but I don’t think he will. They don’t need to trade him. Cole ends this year with Foote being an RFA that probably won’t cost as much. They can save cap while Foote steps into an expanded role next year with Cole gone where he will probably show what he is capable of(whatever that may be). I reckon if we asked they’d probably want Podkolzin who in comparison with Foote who has similar draft pedigree and similarly has yet to take another step but plays a much more valued position despite being a little older. -

Potential draft picks, prospects, young players, draft position, fan unrest, player morale, prolonged mediocrity etc etc. Would hate to lose out on another Forsling or miss out on a Andersson or give another McCann away. -

Your best bet is to take advantage of the waiver wire with projects as a rebuilding team. -

He’s gonna be 24 in a month. Seems like more of a project to me. More throwing gum to a wall hoping it sticks than anything else. We’ve kind have been trying that with Stillman, Bear and Dermott already too. -

I don’t think anything I’ve said has made the implications of a quick turnaround. I was just responding to your point of acquiring Cal Foote which to me is a move your making if you have the mindset of a quick turnaround or retool on the fly. Are we both misunderstood about our positioning here? I am of the mindset of if this team can’t turn it around as it is blow it up. I pointed out acquiring good prospects(and picks for that matter) instead of projects should be the aim. The only way you get good prospects(or picks) is moving good pieces. The best way to do that is to rebuild. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

You mentioned going from a Selke winner in Bergeron to Miller/Dubois. I just wanted to point out the credentials Miller has over Dubois like the aforementioned two top 20 voting in Hart trophy. I already mentioned face off stats which are superior career percentage than Dubois. He also had a 99 point season at C. Not to mention they have to compete with other teams for Dubois and they aren’t exactly that deep in terms of prospects. Would have to gut their prospect pool which doesn’t help them in the future. If they wanted a cheaper option with not really any competition Miller would present that. Bruins also signed Lindholm who’s similar age to Miller to a long term deal and might have been in on OEL. Overall I can see them going after him if they want a cheaper option and better player right away than Dubois. -

I wouldn't be opposed to it but I would want to go more rebuild route than retool or a mixture leaning rebuild. I'd be trading pretty much everybody over 25 who has value/cap hit. Take advantage of cap stricken teams to maximize as many picks/prospects I could get the next couple years. That's if the team can't turn it around as is. -

I'd move them both personally. -

Why does our team history matter if the type of prospect we should look to acquire should be a good one and not a project? If you want to bring up history we have a recent history of trying to acquire other teams underperforming, waiver eligible and/or lesser prospects only for them to not pan out or the moves becoming significant blunders. Some of the blunders in those trades came at the cost of high picks, one of them turning into Rasmus Anderson and prospects, one of which is Gustav Forsling. The only one who really panned in the last 10 years was Markstrom and we had to trade a good goalie who wanted out to do that. It wasn’t really a trade where we directly sought out that type of player in comparison to the others. If you want a promising young player or prospect via trade there’s a price to pay. -

Seems like a long shot type player. We have one in Rathbone already. Only young D we should really be aiming for are high end prospects. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Not sure they’ll ever replace Bergeron no matter how hard they try. Last year Miller proved pretty capable at C. Not a strong start so far but I can’t imagine he stays at wing forever. Miller has a 52.6% career faceoff percentage in comparison to Dubois’ 44.7%. Miller in his past 3 years prior to this one also has two top 25 finishes in Selke voting and two top 20 finishes in Hart voting. In comparison Dubois has never been that high up in either voting throughout his career. They wouldn’t have to give up serious assets on their roster to acquire Miller. Dubois likely gonna cost them more than Miller would with more teams competing for his services. I also wonder if he’d get more in a contract. -

We’re definitely at a crossroads as an organization. IMO this core has had enough chances. This is the best roster since the bubble playoffs. If they can’t turn it around I am all for a rebuild of sorts -

Debrusk playing pretty good atm. Zacha playin good too. It would be a good get if they were playing normally as they would. They overachieving so far. They might want to go all in this year. I’d take advantage of that with taking cap back. Adding Miller(retained on his deal before extension) and getting cap back would probably make them pretty inclined to give us quality and quantity in terms of young assets. -

I could see Boston biting given their long term C situation. Miller might provide a solution. Sure hasn’t started out this year as a C well though but can’t imagine he’s gonna stay wing all year. -
Trotz would be a good guy to teach youngsters in a rebuild and help set a new culture. Probably have to pay him a boatload though.
-
I don’t think it would matter ultimately and it would be understandable with the change in direction we’d take. It wouldn’t make any sort of sense to keep him. We wouldn’t be signing anyone anytime soon nor would any big FA would want to come to a rebuilding team. Id be taking advantage of cap stricken teams the next 2 years and maximizing as much youth I could acquire. I don’t think there’s any quick turnaround here. Retooling would be a waste of time. Trading Horvat would also set us back with how big of a hole he fills and this group as a hole can’t afford that.

That the team has changed its course and you no longer fit with the direction the team is taking. it only wouldn’t make sense if we traded him and didn’t change the direction of the team.
