I was hoping that Miller would get the nod, but understand why they went with Hughes. Listening to the press conference, Tocchet commented that Hughes "mixes with everybody." Perhaps there's concern that Miller's "big" personality might be a bit abrasive for some people. Maybe even a possibility for JT to become 'divisive' in the room, if the season goes sideways. This is only speculation on my part, but that Tocc quote kind of sticks in my head. Regardless, you can't keep a good man down, so expect Miller to continue being a huge factor as part of the leadership group and a big support for Hughes as well.

This is a solid trade, Ted. Trenin reminds me of Frederic (Boston), but doesn't have the offensive potential. He would be an awesome addition to our team's bottom 6. Peeps need to remember that the Canucks also get the remainder of Beau's cap space (2.4m), so it really is a sweet deal. Nashville can use Beau's offensive game, as well as his routinely healthy season. It's hard to say where the Preds are going with this team, but Beau would benefit from being on their top line. Forsberg - Novak - Beau Nashville get Beau + Karlsson + 4th Nucks are awash with top RWs; Karlsson is yet another RW, who is only waiver exempt for this season. NJ 4th will likely be at the late end of the round. Canucks get Trenin + $2.m cap savings. Good job Ted.

I think the management have done everything they could, what with the cap limitations and bad contracts that JB left them They have also hired a new coach and brought in a terrific coaching/training staff. It's his prerogative to sign for how long, or with which team, if it comes to that. Hopefully he signs a long enough for the Canucks to build a team that can contend. He would have been a great pick for sure. Canuck Army were high on him and thought he would be a great pickup for the Canucks. He is exactly the kind of player the Canucks need and his contract with the KHL is in its final year. Apparently the Wild are wanting to develop him as a C. Like you said; there were a lot of issues around picking a Russian player right now and that is why he fell to 24th. After all, he was ranked in the top 10, so the Wild took a chance and will likely end up being the winner.

My take on Pears, is that you put him on the top 6 with better players, he'll bring the points. In 18-`19 he played on 3 teams, but only in Van did he play top 6. Same the following year, when he played on Bo's line and he had a career year. '20-'21 was a dismal season; especially when Petey got injured. For me, that is the off year for Pears and he wasn't alone. Only Brock had an increase in stats. '21-'22 Pears returned to a more normal scoring ratio. It's hard to tell what we will see when Pears joins the team. He's always been a good skater, so I'm not worried about that, but the question mark will be his shooting and passing. Even if he's on the 3rd line putting up 35pts and playing his physical game, he's still a better option than most. Pears - Suter - Podz or Garland

How so? Prior to last season, he's had very similar #s since he was signed in Vancouver. I agree that he brings a more physical style to his game and would be a great fit on the 3rd line. He will likely be rusty, but he will get up to speed soon enough. He's always been a good skater. His shot might be compromised a bit. I'm happy for Pears and am hopeful that he will bring a more qualified game to the 3rd line.

I don't see a team picking up Rathbone, Woo or Brisebois as they would have to be included on their NHL team; if not, they come right back to the Nucks. Hogs might be taken, as he has shown some promise in the NHL.

Boqvist is the best offensive dman on the Jackets. Unfortunately for Adam, he has only played on Chi and Col, which are both severely bad defensive teams. Almost all the players on either team are in the double digits minus. Peeke may have a bigger frame than Boqvist, but his stats suggest that his defensive game is horrible and his offensive game isn't much better. How does one achieve a minus 41 anyway? The Canucks don't need either player. They need to find a way to acquire Dillon from the Jets!

Hopefully it is just a glitch on the main board. Compared to other social media boards, this one is pretty good. I know some folks go overboard at times, and we do have the odd trolls that drift through, but other than that, peeps are usually quite civil with each other. The mods are good as well and only step in when a discussion is over heating.

The guy I was responding to was talking about 2yrs from now (when Brock's contract expires). Laying out the various prospects and the possibilities in 2 yrs shows some interesting options. I'm not expecting a lot this season; I would be happy to see better defensive coverage and hardworking team. Maybe get a round in the playoffs, but it's more important how the team plays together and commit to the plan.

I am curious to see how Brock looks after a couple of weeks of regular season. It sounds like he has taken the offseason very serious, so maybe he returns with a new passion for the game. That would be great for the team; whether he gets a great return in a trade, or if he re-signs at an appropriate $ and term. In 2 yrs, we will see some new faces on the team coming up from Abby (and other leagues). Just for fun, I put together potential FW players in 2 yrs; not including the 2 recent drafts and mostly from Abby, as they are more ready for the NHL. Kuze? Pete Boeser Podz Millsy Lekker Mik/Joshua Raty Klim/Karlsson Bloom/Bains Aman/Sasson Nielsen The next 2 seasons will be a very interesting year for the Abby team. We could see a couple of graduates during the coming season and then more the next. 4 or 5 ECLs will create some decent cap space to improve the weaker areas on the team.

Yeah, he had a solid career in the NHL and has gone home with $23M in earnings. Guess he loves the game so much that he still wants to play, even if it's a 2nd tier team in a neighbouring country.

Big season coming up for Woo. If he continues to improve his game in the AHL, he might get some looks later in the year. I still have hopes for Jett making the team, as his toughness would be great addition to the D group. Lots of young players don't make the NHL jump turn until they are 23-24yrs.

And on the other hand... the1seajay - 13 hr. ago I think he's gotten a bad rap for his defense in his career, but he was never really billed as a defensive stalwart. He's a second pairing offensive threat that does well on the power play and doesn't look completely lost on the kill. He makes some bad mistakes at times, but a lot of those were overcompensating for a bad play/bad positioning by his defensive partner. If he's paired with a solid defensive guy, you're going to be very happy with him.

I was going with the OPs idea of having a 2nd LD that can play alongside Hronny and shave minutes off Hughes toi. Hughes Cole Dillon Hronny Soucy Myers (sign Bear if Myers is traded).

I'm with you on this, although I'm not sure that Eddie can take on the minutes like he used to. I prefer a veteran that can play the minutes and hold the fort for a couple of years. A guy like Brenden Dillon Jets got him for a 2nd pick) would be perfect. I don't know what it would take to get him, or even if the Jets would be willing to let him go. There would have to be no $ exchange for either team. Maybe Something like Bear with $250 retained + McDonough? The Canucks have 3 promising LD prospect developing; 2 of which are solid defensive players that can play physical. Truscot 21yrs and Petterrson 19yrs. The other player is Kudryavstev, who is considered a 2-way, hard to play against type player 19yrs. We will still have to wait a couple of years before we see any of these guys in the NHL.

Yes, Yellowstone is a dreadful show with a very unlikable cast. 2 separate 1 season shows were made after the filming of Yellowstone, but is about prior generations . One is called 1893, which is a very well produced western. The second show is called 1923, which is a different generation trying to deal with the changes to a more modern time. It is also very good. Apparently that show will have a second season, but production is on hold because of the writer's strike.
