Value of Dougie Hamilton (Discussion/Proposal)
higgyfan replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
At his age, Hamilton is going to want big time $ and huge term +7yrs and a NMC. It will become a problem as core players come up for RFA contracts, RFA bridge contracts and UFA contracts in the future. It may also block future trades and UFA signings. I would prefer management try to make a trade to a guy like Brandon Carlo as he is within the core age group, plays a tough physical game, is a good defensive player who is fantastic on the PP. He would make a perfect partner for Hughes. I don't know what Boston would want for him, as he is just coming up to his RFA at the end of the season. I have no idea what the Bruins would want for him, or if the Nucks have the pieces. Perhaps Virtanen + Tryamkin's rights + 2nd or 3rd? Hughes Carlo Edler Schmidt Juolevi Myers -
I think the infection restricted his nutrition absorption, so he couldn't gain the muscle mass and weight he needs to play NHL hockey. Mario stopped playing after diagnosis; only played 23 games in 1993 and did not play in the 94-95 season. The game of hockey is a tall horse to climb back on after being sick.

It looks like the prospects have to play 27/54 games this year. Juolevi (14), Chatfield(18), Mac(15) games remaining, so they will manage Chatfield and Mac's games remaining, so they can keep Mac exempt, but likely leave Chat unprotected. All the others would have play 27 games to lose their exemptions. At least that's how it appears to me.

12 goals 21 assists 33 points in 59 games last season. Seems spot on for a 3rd liner to me. I know he played a lot of sheltered minutes, but having his medical condition taken care of will likely increase physique /strength; which will support an overall improvement in his game (especially defensive). He's always proven that he can step up to each and every level he has faced throughout his hockey career, so I am hopeful that the same will happen here in Vancouver; maybe even end up as a 3C.

Feel sorry for the kids getting paid minimum wage dealing with having to ask for ID or refusing to sell booze to someone who is drunk. -

The Flakes unies look like they borrowed them from an AHL team.

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
higgyfan replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Little bro Nylander. He's not very good at hockey. Rather keep Jake. -
JT was -21yrs when he was being scratched by AV. By the time he was Jake's age, he had 3 consistent years with 22g/+56pts. When he was traded to the Lightning, he was put on the Stamkos line and scored 10g/18pts in 19 games. The following season, JT struggled in TB because they kept moving him around the lineup, finally settling on the 3rd line. He totalled 47pts in 75 games and managed to tie the 2 smurfs, despite playing in 6 fewer games. Last year, he would have been 1st place overall in Lightning points and even this season, while he's having a slow start, he would be 4th in TB. I don't see much to compare with Jake and JT. But...I've said it before and I'll say it again. Living in Vancouver as the homeboy is a huge distraction for Jake. He is very immature for his age and can easily be led away from (what should be) his greatest career goal. I think if he could go to another team (far from Vancouver), he could live a normal life; without being under a microscope or living with massively high expectations. There's no telling what a fresh start could do for him, but certainly the reality of a trade might force his hand to grow up and work harder if he wants an NHL career. I would really like to see this for Jake.

[Rumour] Predators interested in Adam Gaudette
higgyfan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If he wants to avoid the smell of weed, he will have to sign with a team in the bible belt; certainly nowhere in Canada, as every city and town smells like pot. A lot of adjustments for him. Seems to be improving lately. Hard to say if his offence has dried up, or if he's another casualty of the slow start. Still, as you say, he is a good dman. Benn was supposed to be used sparingly. Hamonic will be back soon. Myers is a middle pairing dman. His offensive #s are 7th on the team (he may end up with his personal best) and he plays 2nd pairing minutes. Admittedly he has had some dumb penalties and plays, but his incredible reach has prevented many opportunities for the opposing teams. Also Brock's return to form, Hoglander!!!, Motte becoming a solid 2-way player that is fit for 3rd line, Hughes' defensive game is improving in recent games, as is his offence (1pt a game). Canucks often have a slow start at the beginning of each season, but this year has been especially difficult. Other teams are dealing with the same circumstances, but I think the schedule has allowed for little time between games for practices or team build. The have been playing a more consistent game lately and will likely benefit from an improved schedule in the upcoming weeks. -
For sure. Also, it's important to understand the impact that injuries (and recovery) have such an impact on athletes; especially developing athletes. Just seeing how long it has taken Boeser to come back from his injuries is an eyeopener. The last couple of years many fans thought he should be traded.

Frick and Frack played on the same lines quite a bit, but I don't recall Hansen joining them. Can you imagine though, having a non drafted player and a 9th round pick turning out the way these 2 did? And people say the hockey gods hate the Canucks.

Such an arrogant (and ignorant) comment.

Being a 2nd rounder, Hogs was projected to excel to greater heights than Honey Badger or Burr. Considering HB was a 9th rounder and Burr learned his hockey moves playing roller hockey makes both their story endearing and striking. They both had massive passion, endless energy and very high hockey sense. Great players and fan favourites. Hogs possess massive skills and likely should have been a 1st round pick. He also possesses the same passion and energy, as well terrific hockey sense. I'll bet he will be a fan favourite for many years to come.

Does superstion have a future in hockey?
higgyfan replied to LeafsFanDan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I think it's a bit silly, but it can be a team bonding event or even an icebreaker when the lads are feeling tense. Of course, like anything else, it can be taken to an extreme. I don't think banning it would work, as the players would just go underground to do their rituals. It's a hockey tradition and will likely continue to be for years to come. I do think our guys should do like Bieksa said regarding Perry's hockey stick though. Get that barrel out boys and grab Brock's stick!
