  1. Or, perhaps offence is rewarded by more lucrative contracts?
  2. Absolutely. I think that people are only reading the 1st half of that tweet and disregarding the 2nd part. You know just before the ,but... Regardless of what people start out saying, the most important information comes after the but.
  3. On the other hand, the Sens beat the Cdns last night, so anything can happen with tonights game
  4. IF Eriksson gets the green light and plays on the 2nd line, it suggests to me that Pears/Bo/Loui will be utilized as a shutdown line; which may be effective against Toronto's offensive dynamite. I wouldn't mind seeing Hogs against lesser competition on the 3rd. I would love to see how Motte/ Sutts/Hogs do, but I also think Hogs would do a world of good for Gauds. Meh, it's just one game and the team is desperate.
  5. I don't mind Bennett, but it seems that some Nuck fans are really overrating the guy. Sam is currently playing on Calgary's 4th line and some are suggesting he could play on Nuck's 2nd. He is 24yr old Sam Bennett, who is no longer a top 6 player; he is now a bottom 6 grinder. JV has more skill; Bennett has more drive/physicality. I don't see JB making this trade with a divisional rival. If it was offered by an eastern US team, he probably would. Team need suggests that SB would offer more. Think a 4th line of Bennett - Beagle - Mac. Moving Motte up to 3rd Motte - Sutts - Gaud
  6. Context is everything in a conversation. I was responding to this quote from @khay : "I guess our rebuild began in 2013: 2013: Horvat. 2014: Virtanen, Demko. 2015: Boeser, Gaud. 2016: OJ. 2017: EP. 2018: Hughes. 2019: Pod and Hog. I guess the future is bright indeed. But note that JB drafted a lot better than the Avs did." Note that it was the OP that included Gaud & Virtanen. He also thinks that JB has drafted a lot better than the Avs, to which I totally disagree. I had commented: "As you can see, the Avs have very lucky in the draft considering the lotto draft and/or strong draft years." Wellwood, I know it's hard to keep up with all the posts on this board; I struggle with it often enough. I just wanted to explain what I had been getting at.
  7. I beleive she said it was due to the increasing rate of the Covid-19 variants in BC.
  8. After Tampa won the cup in '04 they crashed mightily. Any team that starts drafting top 10 picks for 5 years is rebuilding. Fortunately for TB, they had very good scouting and managed to pick up great players in the later rounds as well. I don't agree with that. Duchene, Landeskog, McKinnon (better than any player on Nucks), Rantanen, Jost, Maker, Bowen, Newhook is a pretty nice collection of players. I certainly don't see Virt, Gaud, or possibly OJ in that group. I didn't address the recent UFAs and signings, so I won't say much about that. The Marky and Tanev signing to Cal appears to be a loss for our team at this point. It's hard to say how these contracts will play out over time, or where Demko will be in his development. I'm not sure about TT, as he only scores against the Canucks. I doubt he will maintain his point a game production over the whole season. Regardless, I still think that the Nucks will continue to improve over the next couple of years (this year may be a wash) and the team will finally be in a good situation with many ELCs, RFA bridgings and plenty of cap space. I don't know if JB will be around though, as usually, the GM that builds a contender, rarely gets to reap the rewards.
  9. Cool! DeAngelo can start off with beating up Johnny Canuck and then continue on with Tketchup.
  10. Of course, the Avs have a better depth chart, they are much farther along in their rebuild. I was comparing the Canucks to the Avs 3 years ago. Also, the Nucks cap space situation will be much better after next season and beyond as vets become ufas and prospects are ready to join the team. Other than the odd team that is successful at retooling, rebuilding a team into a contender takes an awful long time; with a lot of bumps along the way. It is even more difficult for the Cdn teams, as many UFAs will not sign here, or they will demand more money, term and NTC/NMCs. I'd venture to guess that the majority of LNTC include most Cdn teams on their no go list.
  11. Wait And See by Tim Finn Patience is a virtue, Possess it if you can, You gotta wait and see, Seldom in a woman, Never in a man, You gotta wait and see. On that note, let's talk about the Colorado Avalanche. I see a lot of similarities between the Avs and Nucks. Officially started their rebuild when the picked up Duchene in the '09 draft. '10 was a bust. '11 brought Landeskog. '12 a 2nd round bust. '13 Mckinnon. '14 another bust. '15 Rantanen. '16 Jost. '17 Makar. '18 another bust. 19 Bowen As you can see, the Avs have very lucky in the draft considering the lotto draft and/or strong draft years. In fact, they had 5 top 3 picks over 10 years! They also busted on 3 picks of the 10 yrs. But Stevie Y.... Now look at their SC playoff record In the 10 years of their rebuild, these are their playoff results. (6) did not qualify, (2) lost in 1st round and (2) lost in 2nd round (those were the last 2 playoff seasons). ***Finally, this year the Avs look like they are ready to be contenders.*** That's a lot of bad and disappointing hockey for at least 8 years. Wait and see Canuck fans. Like the Avs, we just might have to go back to the draft this year and maybe like the Avs, win the lotto.
  12. Boeser > than Konecny. Bad trade for Canucks. Other than Pears, all the top 6 (arguably Hogs - if he is consistent for the entire season) are better than K).
  13. Yes, he was a good player in LA. Did anyone think that Virtanen was going to be able to replace him?
  14. Come on now. JT was a beast last year; 1st on the team in points, inspired Pete/rest of team and 18pts in 17 P/O games. What more could we ask of him? I don't know what's going on with JT so far this season, but even still, he is 3rd in points with 3 less games. He's obviously very frustrated and unhappy, which can make it even harder to return to form. The entire team is underachieving, so it seems that it is a group problem, not just one individual.
  15. I was so disappointed when I heard that TT was signed by Montreal, but I'm over it now. If he were still with the Nucks, who's to say he would make any difference to our floundering team. Throughout his career, he was a solid 2nd line player, but right now, he is looking like an elite player. But wait...10 goals in 10 games; 9 of them are against the Canucks. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his scoring rate, or if he levels off to his normal totals of previous years. His accumulated stats suggest that he scores just under 1 goal every 3 games. Fortunately for TT, he still has a few more games to feast on the Canucks.
  16. I'm sure they are coached to stay away from Canuck related social media, but the temptation is always there. In the end, they become 'thick-skinned' in order to survive. They also learn that regular fans really don't know as much about hockey and tend to be temperamental and irrational.
  17. Wouldn't be the first time a recently rebuilt team flounders. There's a long history of these teams doing the 3 steps forward 2 steps back jig. My sense is that the Canucks future will emulate the Avalanche; not the Oilers. We'll see how they do tonight. The team may come back focussed and ready to play. W or L, that's what I want to see. Play a complete game and then build on it to defeat the Flames. At this point, consistency is what will create the ascension of this team.
  18. To be fair, Gaud has played in way fewer NHL games than Jake. He hasn't had the opportunities to learn the defensive game (at the NHL level) as Jake has. He was pretty much all offence in his college years. Regardless, I suspect that in the coming years, both these players may be passed by at some point.
  19. For sure. Poor guy has some stiff competition to even play at C. Flyers are stacked. He'll probably play 4th line W. What a waste when they could simply send him our way!
  20. Trading Jake to Cal has some dangerous possibilities for JB. With Bennett; what you see is what you get. Jake is a bit of an enigma; there is a possibility that leaving Vancouver (and all the distractions it offers), could end up being just what he needs. I don't think Bennett plays C much; he usually plays W on the bottom 6. I agree that Pearson is a better player. The Canucks definitely have a need for a 3C. The Flyers are incredibly strong at C. Hayes, Giroux, Nolan, Couturier, Laughton and Bunnaman (rookie). They also have a couple of young C's on ELCs (non roster). Currently Scott Laughton is playing on the 4th line, but when Couturier returns from injury, he will lose his spot. He appears to be a JB type player and looks to have a lot of potential. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/76690/scott-laughton A pretty all-round player with good leadership abilities. Plays a strong two-way game and reads the game exceptionally well. Not overly flashy, but can put up some points on the board. Good penalty killer and skater. Likes to play the body. http://sportsforecaster.com/nhl/player/9415t Usually gives maximum effort when on the ice. Is plenty feisty, but also displays very good two-way ability. Is also a pretty good leader. Can play both centre and wing at the highest level. Needs to continue to add more bulk to his 6-1 frame so that he may thrive in the long run playing his aggressive style at the National Hockey League level. Must also be more consistent. Long Range Potential:Quality, versatile and feisty two-way forward with a little upside. I don't know if Philly has a need for a W. I think there would have to be a sweetener along with Jake. Laughton would be a huge addition to the team if JB could get him.
