  1. Seems like Podz is coming off a period of development of late. His skating appears to be faster and his somewhat frenzied end to end rushes seem more purposeful. I like how he protects the puck, all the while looking for the best choice to make; whether to pass, or move to a more opportune position. His hockey sense is very good. And boy oh boy; still the freight train running down the ice, but with such intent will be very useful on our time. Probably start him off with Motte Beagle Podz And then Motte Sutts/Gaud Podz And then....finally...Hogs Bo Podz
  2. It will be interesting to come back to this discussion in another month or more. These are truly the Covid games and indications are that we may be in for a rough ride for the next while (with the variants invading our country). One exposure could impact a team severely. There is no sure thing for any team to make it to the P/Os. The Canucks (as always) are having a slow start. The changeover of players has impacted the team by creating a certain disarray for the newcomers and regulars alike. The short training camp and lack of post season games appears to have compounded their usual sluggish start and the 'mini playoff' schedule has been tough on any team that didn't start out of the gate on all cylinders. If the team can put together a string of Ws, it will have a group psychological effect, despite the lower level teams they will play. These 4 games may end up being the elixir that builds the confidence, unity and focus that they have been lacking. Feb will be a huge challenge (Mon and Cal), so they really need to finish off Ott and Win. at the close of Jan.
  3. (3) 1st rounders and (3) 2nd rounders in the last draft. With their ridiculously low cap hit for the next season, they will likely have many chances to pick up more 1st and 2nd rounders. Their future looks like lots of cap space and a solid bunch of up and coming prospects, which is an enviable place to be in the NHL.
  4. They have a great collection of young players and will pick up a few more in the coming draft. Ott has a promising future.
  5. I like Gaud a lot, but I agree that he may not become a solid 3rd line C. I'll hold off on his defensive game, as his medical condition may have been effecting his ability. I also agree that he is a great energy guy, with some decent offensive potential. Unfortunately, the Canucks do not appear to have a C that would be a great replacement (in the foreseeable future). Imagine though... a 3rd line with Podz/Motte (young Boone Jenner V2) Gaudette. That's a young, aggressive and defensive line that would also score goals.
  6. @ImConfused Still trolling for those " + " I see. Well, I must concede...it seems to be working for you. Either that, or you certainly are very
  7. Not at all. Kirill is a small top 6 player with a scoring touch. He is 4yrs older than Podz. Incredible 5th round pick up for Minni! P is a grinding puck seeker, who is constantly bringing the puck into the ozone. He is a fearless player, who is unafraid of hanging around the dirty areas. I don't think he will be a substantial goal scorer, but I can see him getting a lot of assists if he plays alongside a shooter. He has great size and will be a formidable force to anyone trying to defend against him. I can see P playing on any line and also contributing to both the PP and PK. I think Podz is years away from reaching his potential, but, by the time he hits his prime, he will be a significant top 6 player for the Canucks.
  8. Tyler Ennis is meant to be a top 6 player. He's small and doesn't play the defensive game very well (if he's not scoring, he's of no use to his team). Canucks already have a player like Ennis in their top 6, who is (by far) a better player and is only 20yrs old and still developing into a complete hockey player (Hogs). I really can't see TE improving our team in any way.
  9. While rolling out the vaccination plan, it was also said, 'The province said front-line workers outside of health care might be added to Phase 3 if more vaccines become available (they think the AstraZeneca vaccine will the greenlit in the spring).' The AZ (Oxford) vaccine was cleared and has been in use in Britain for a couple of weeks; over 5m vaccinated so far. Hopefully, it will be passed in Canada in the coming weeks, which will give us a 3rd option for the vaccination plan. There's a very good chance that the remaining essential workers will be rolled into phase 3. The idea of having the most vulnerable population, along with all essential workers being vaccinated before July is amazing. The remaining younger folks will still have to be cautious, but at least will not have the added burden of passing the virus onto their parents, grandparents, aunt's, uncles, neighbours, etc. The thought of everyone in BC (who wants a vaccine) will have one by end of September is fabulous. Maybe even earlier, if new vaccines continue to be passed and utilized.
  10. Phase 1, December to February: Residents, staff, essential visitors with long-term care and assisted living; people waiting for long-term care; people in remote Indigenous communities and hospital workers caring for patients with COVID-19. Phase 2, February to March: Seniors over 80; Indigenous seniors over 65, Indigenous elders; more health-care workers; vulnerable populations and nursing-home staff. Phase 3, April to June: Members of the general public aged 60 to 79. Phase 4, July to September: Members of the general public aged 18 to 59. Quote from Premier: B.C.'s plan is no longer based on a person's risk of exposure due to their profession, with the exception of health-care staff. That means some front-line workers — like teachers, first-responders and grocery store staff — are no longer getting higher priority because of their job. "I receive mail a couple of inches thick from advocates saying their particular sector, their particular sector deserved a higher priority. All of the arguments were very compelling," said B.C. Premier John Horgan. "But the science is pretty clear ... age is the dominant determinant factor on severe illness and death." The province said front-line workers outside of health care might be added to Phase 3 if more vaccines become available (they think the AstraZeneca vaccine will the greenlit in the spring).
  11. Same here. Harmonic is obviously finding his way in playing on a new team; with a new system. Missed the preseason and had a long haul of no games before that. He needs to shake the rust out. At this point, removing him from the game, will only slow his progress down.
  12. Canucks always have a slow start to a new season. The real concern is that making up for losses will be harder to do in such a short season.
  13. Doesn't really matter. Bo is a good captain, but is now in the learning stage of becoming a great captain. He might even become a lifetime Canucks, somewhat like Linden. My impression of Miller is that he views the Canucks as his team and will do whatever it takes to win games. Even if he has to carry the team on his back. He is a huge mentor for Bo, as well as many others on the team. I suspect that Schmidt has similar characteristics to Miller.
  14. Have a look at his PIMs and playoffs #s. He's not the 'star' he used to be, but the new SB ain't shabby.
  15. Let it go, man. Every team has had a questionable top 10 pick now and then. Since then, it appears that the management put a greater value on character and hockey sense. The recent draft picks are sure making up for it and let's not forget that Demko and Tryamkin were also in that draft. 2014 was a very average draft, so there are quite a few underachievers in the 1st round. I actually like Sam Bennett's game and I respect how hard he worked to change his style of play. I prefer Sam's game to Jake's.
  16. Agreed. Roussel has great hockey sense, is a puck hound and has veteran experience. He a lot like Burr, who was never thought of as a top 6 player either. Still a few games to fill in until JT gets back, so why not give him a try?
  17. Early days for Jake and the team. The team as a whole had a pretty bad game against the Oilers. I hadn't really thought of Virt as a 1st line player; more of a 3rd liner that can move up to the 2nd, as needed. In that case, he's a bargain at his cap hit.
