[Signing] Ducks sign Ben Hutton
higgyfan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
341 games in 5 seasons is pretty good for a 5th rounder. He will be a depth player and probably play for the bulk of the season games for the Ducks. As I recall he could be a physical player, at times. I think the Ducks would like more of that. -
Some fans do though. Especially the long term. I can't think of any players, or any people for that matter, turn away from +/- $24M. Awful high expectations on Loui. Yes, it is.

Fans have 6 million reasons to blame Benning for signing a 31yr old for such a long term, but most people have moved on from that. With such a short season for '21 and who knows when the '22 season starts and the young players with ELCs joining the team in the upcoming years; I really don't see LE's contract being a huge issue for the team. Well, unless JB goes out and signs another aging 'star' to a long term contract. The team is developing nicely, and I am enjoying this growing period. It's what it is.

I doubt that would happen in Canada, as the media would be all over it. I can see it happening in the States though, which really makes the season in favour of the American teams. I suppose the Cdn teams could source the vaccine outside Canada though.

It goes to show how fragile this season is. -

Picking up Schmidt has a 'Miller' feel to it; another quality player who will improve the team significantly. With the inclusion of Hamonic, the Canucks have a very solid defence. Edler/Schmidt Hughes/Hamonic Joulevi/Meyers Rathbone/Benn/etc

[PTO] Travis Hamonic with Canucks
higgyfan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Maybe so Jimmy. Eddie has the better offensive upside for sure. I'm just not sure if his point shot is as accurate as Travis'. At least he will be and alternative, if need be. -
[PTO] Travis Hamonic with Canucks

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Canucks now have a very solid D-force. I feel so much better going into the start of the season. Hamonic's physical game will be so important for the team; especially on the back end. Now there are several studs (including Hamonic) that can play big minutes when required. He will be an awesome addition to the PK and on the 2nd PP, as he has a terrific point shot. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/17519/travis-hamonic A talented and hard-nosed two-way defender with good offensive instincts and even better defensive perception. Excellent four-way mobility up and down the ice. Backchecks hard and keeps the opposition to the outside. Creates energy through his gritty, physical brand of hockey, most commonly on display in the defensive and neutral zone. Blocks shots well and understands how to take shooting and passing lanes away. Sees the ice well and makes crisp, tape-to-tape passes. Has the ability to be a noticeable difference-maker in games and works hard at all aspects of his game. [EP] -
I think he has a similar body type to the Sedin twins. They seemed kind of scrawny when they were drafted, but by the time they retired from hockey they were 190lbs. Watching the boys play over the years, I was always astounded how much of a beating they would take along the boards without showing any signs of taking such a pounding. They usually came up with the puck as well. These players with the 'wirey' body type often seem to put on a lot of muscle without showing a lot of weight. Like the twins, Pete will look very strong at 190lbs (when he gets there).

2021 IIHF World Junior Championship Thread

Maybe, Jimmy...we'll see how they do in the next game. Still, it doesn't change my opinion of Podz game, as I don't think he would ever quit on his team; especially during an important tournament like the WJs. I love how he plays the game and can hardly wait to see him play in the NHL, alongside some great finishers. -

Russia was very lucky to win this game. I don't see them winning any more games in this tournament. They can dominate a game, but appear not have the 'finishers' to win. Overall I have been happy with Podz contribution, as I've never really seen him as a finisher; more as a huge factor in the domination that Russia has shown. I believe Podz style of game will be a huge addition to the Canucks and although he won't get the scoring numbers some fans will expect, he will end up with a lot of assists.
