Read it again. The book is an account of the first few weeks of Covid in BC. Yeah, she did a very good job of getting it under control. She was deservedly commended for it.

What a disgrace. One thing that Covid 19 has shown us, is that there's a segment of our population that is extremely selfish and weak. Time and again, we have been told that every time the community numbers increase so do the deaths and exposures in the schools. But these idiots can't skip one Christmas season, or stop socializing in their homes.

[Speculation] Canucks clearing Cap for Hamonic
higgyfan replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not sure about 29 other teams wanting these guys. Awful lot of teams close to (or over) the cap right now. Still, love Tanev, but I would be overjoyed if the Canucks can pick up Hamonic at 1.5-2M for 1 year, over Chris' 4.5M for 4yrs. I also think JB made the best choice in letting Marky go. He will definitely be missed by the team, but 6mx6yrs would not be a good contract for the Canucks at this point. Calgary is lucky to have those guys though. Potentially, they have vastly improved. -
I think if he is paired with a solid defensive guy who has hockey sense and can skate, he will be fine. Edler (but then Quinn has to play rd, which Green doesn't like), Schmitt (which means the two best offensive dmen are playing together, although Schmitt is good defensively), or they somehow trade Benn and add Hamonic (who would be a very good fit + his physicality, but seems more of second pairing guy). I really don't want to see Q with Myers. Ideally... Edler Schmitt Hughes Hamonic Juolevi Myers Rathbone PP Hughes/Schmitt PK Edler/Hamonic

Have a look at his fight record...Lucic, Kane, Krieder, Stillman, etc. He's one brave man. -

Same here. Hamonic is a warrior. He is a very physical player(yep, his hits are clean and hard), who is also great at getting the puck out of the d-zone. When he drops the mitts he often takes on some pretty tough characters (his fight partners are some of the tougher dudes in the NHL; hence getting sometimes destroyed). If he only signs for the season (at an affordable rate) he doesn't need to be protected at the ex. draft. If his fit is good, they may be able to re-sign him later on. I actually prefer him over Myers. I would be sooooo thrilled if JB can sign this guy! -
Hey bish, I notice that the article you refer to does not have a date on it. This makes me skeptical of the contents. Do you know if this program is actually expected to start this February? I wonder if the program could proceed with the current social gathering and non-essential travel restrictions. Can't imagine any locals wanting to bring strangers into their homes right now, either.
-
I remember there was talk of this at the time (although I didn't realize the tourism industry was promoting it). I recall that by November, most of the private campgrounds (Central + South Island) had been reserved; apparently for snowbirds. I have also noticed a lot of RVs and trailers (obviously being in use) tucked away in people's yards. This parallels with the spice in infections from Nov. 8-22. The bulk of these snowbirds have already established themselves on the Island, so I don't expect a large influx over the Christmas holidays. Besides, who drives across Canada at this time of year, anyways? Especially with trailers and big RVs. With the mandated mask, social gathering and non-essential travel restrictions, I am hopeful that the Island can continue to maintain the relatively low rate of infections.
-
I think it is due to the huge rise in infection rate. We had yet to see the numbers in the 500-900 range until late Nov - early Dec. I believe we are now seeing the results of these high numbers in the death rate.
-
I don't expect him to score goals like that in the NHL, but he sure has some great skills!
-
Love him or hate him; you have to admit he had that team motivated and focussed for the playoffs. He has the room and it seems that the players like and respect him.

I guess I assumed that the vaccine would be given to all the support staff, just as they would in the hospitals and health centres. Dr. Henry said that the vaccine has shown to work before the 14 days (after 1st injection), so you will have to maintain the protocols for the duration. In the UK, they are suggesting that it is effective within 10 days. Yes! A great sunshiny, socially gathering summer for all of us!
-
It never gets old, does it stawns? How many times do you, I and many others have to keep repeating this? Also, I suspect the game plan (if the citizens comply) is to have much lower numbers in the new year, which would work very well with the vaccine program. By February, we will be well into protecting the vulnerable and front line workers and there will be fewer deaths. As we creep into March, the infection rate will continue to dwindle. I am very hopeful that we may have a great summer in 2021. Also, I am so happy that they have included teachers in the early stages of the vaccine program. Keeping the schools open and safe is a huge priority.
-
The best part of it, is that the most vulnerable population (everyone over 50yrs old) will be vaccinated before summer and by then, the COVID-19 infection #s will be dwindling fast and the death rate very low. I believe I heard Horgan say something about the summer being much more sociable.

Well, I'll have to answer you later, as I'm heading out the door with my wife to have a nice meal (in a restaurant) and then off to our neighbourhood pub afterwards. Tomorrow I have a day off, so will do some Christmas shopping in town. Yes, there are a lot of restrictions right now and it's really not a fun time, but this is not a lockdown. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/emergency-preparedness-response-recovery/covid-19-provincial-support/restrictions#restaurants-bars

Lets be clear...we are not in lockdown here in BC. Also, Quebec has such a high rate of deaths due to Covid-19 because of the wretched condition in their long term care homes. Remember when they had to ask the army to take over? It's sickening how they dealt with those poor old folks. Inhumane. I agree (to a degree), regarding the masks. As you have already stated, the downside of the masks, is the ignorance of the people wearing them. CDN Government has a website that goes over everything people need to know in order to wear them safely and be effective. https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/publications/diseases-conditions/covid-19-safely-use-non-medical-mask-face-covering.html I don't know why people compromise their health by wearing cheap, inappropriate masks. Why would you not go out and get a couple of masks that fit the recent requirements and then used them as instructed? C'mon people, if you're going to wear a mask, go out and get the best one you can afford and wear it as it is intended.

It's not a lockdown.

I think living next door to the US gives folks a sense that the virus here is far worse than what it actually is. Cases per million... https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/covid-19-in-the-u-s-how-do-canada-s-provinces-rank-against-american-states-1.5051033 Most Canadian provinces are somewhere between Maine and Hawaii. Not getting away from the fact that we are in the midst of a world pandemic, but we can get through this; especially if we stick to our guns with the protocols. As our health professionals have been saying over and over and over for months now...wash your hands often, stay 6ft apart, wear a mask if you can't maintain your distance, follow current restrictions and stay at home if you don't feel well (or get tested). It's pretty simple, really. I like our chances a lot better than our neighbours south of us.

Churches are known superspreaders. Pages and pages of examples on the internet. Dr. Henry was right to shut them down. I haven't heard anything about the Cactus Club spreading the virus. Overall, the bars and restaurants have had few exposures. I wouldn't go to a bar right now either, but it's a lot safer for the yougin's to go there than party at home. At least the businesses have a protocol to follow and risk being shut down. You are absolutely right about the moving target that is Covic 19.
-
He actually called it 'herd mentality' a few times. If you consider his supporters, it's very fitting indeed.
-
On the other hand, the US will never use all of their vaccines, due to the +40% refusal rate...'cause conspiracy theory(s) or against their constitutional rights. Canada only needs to acquire 10% and Mexico can take the remaining +30%.
