I've said time and again; I wear masks myself. Stop putting words in myself. I'm not bothering with you anymore. Imo, you are a troll. You should be banned. Ignored.

You so obviously didn't read the article. I see people touching their masks and pushing them under their chins all the time. Do they wash their hands ever time they touch their mask; including removing them when they leave the store? Do they store them properly? Do they wash them in a timely fashion? I would suggest many don't. Every time anyone mentions something that you deem as negative about masks, you jump in and make a stupid comment. This is an informative article that everyone should be aware of; especially those who have children who are required to wear a mask. Honestly, your obsessive and continuous condescending remarks about our province and the Covid leadership team is divisive and inflammatory. I have no idea why you have not been banned or at least cautioned on this board.

Face masks are an important tool in the Covid toolbox for sure. The only thing is; many Canadians do not have a clue how to use them properly. If we are unaware of these steps, the mask is pretty much useless. I wonder if this will be taught in the schools... https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/face-mask-stow-reuse-1.5675473 The other thing, is that the mask does not make you invincible, so be aware of the other guidelines (especially social distance) and stick to them.

The KHL 20-21 season vs COVID (starting rough)
higgyfan replied to SilentSam's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I've always suspected that Russia has been fudging their Covid 19 #s. The way the virus climbed in the beginning suggested that they wouldn't be able to contain it and the hospitals were crashing with the massive volume of patients. They really had no business opening the KHL under these circumstances. -
So true. I can't see Juice wanting to isolate for 14days and then joining the NHL bubble lock down for however long it takes to announce the winner of the SC? The guy is a multimillionaire with a young family that needs him. Hard pass for me, if I were in that position! Still, it will be nice to have a couple of former Nucks on the SN team.

This appears to be happening all around the world, since countries started opening up; stage 3 in particular. I suppose this will end up being the 2nd wave, which could be compounded by the flu season arriving in the Fall. I think countries may have to step back a bit to beat the virus down to a more manageable situation. China, Singapore, Hong Kong appear to be trending upwards as well.

Nowadays, it would be quite unusual for a person that young to die of AIDS, so it would be Covid that killed him. There are many other underlying conditions (high blood pressure, diabetes, immune issues, asthma, obesity, age +65, etc) that make people more susceptible to getting infected by the virus and eventually dying. These people would more that likely live a much longer life, but for Covid19. Imo, it is Covid 19 that killed them.

Just another typical statement from kosweeping statements. Alabama is a great comparison to BC with same population. Alabama 87,723 cases (+1,961 yesterday) 1,580 deaths (+15 yesterday) Florida and Alabama hospitals are overwhelmed by the covid numbers; some are no longer accepting patients. Meanwhile, BC currently has 5 hospital beds (province wide) being used by Covid patients. Incredible! We should be so lucky to be living in here.

Before the fit hits the shan, here's the plan so anyone interested can familiarize themselves. https://globalnews.ca/news/7227148/bc-back-to-school-plan-september-coronavirus/ Let the games begin!

This has nothing to do with the post you quoted. Pay attention kos.

Where did you see this, Ghosts? And then there's this...https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/nova-scotia-no-new-covid-19-cases-12-days-1.5664320

The samples were taken when the infection rate of the virus was at it's very highest (March and May). The indication was that BC; including hot spots in Coastal and Fraser Health areas were well under 1%, which is considered very low. That is considered a very low rate of infections. Testing will inevitably have a 20% error in testing, so can be somewhat ineffective. When did I bring up mandatory masks? I really don't know if mandatory masks would eliminate the virus. Careless use of the masks (applying and removing) and over confidence when wearing them (I've noticed a lot of peeps wearing masks not social distancing. could spread germs. Not washing the cloth ones, poor people unable to access them or individuals that have respiratory or other issues that prevent them from wearing masks might also spread the virus. What about folks that are mentally challenged or mentally ill? Folks with addictions? Will they be tasered and/or physically removed from transit? The virus will still be around regardless.

The cases you are speaking of are exactly what I mentioned in the post you quoted; young people doing young people things. The stats from the last 3 days suggest a 12% drop in cases, so if you don't count the youngins partying, the outbreak in Haida Gwai(15) and the outbreak at the blueberry packing plant (15), it shows that 'most of the people in BC' actually are practising safe behaviour. 81 cases over 3 days (36-21-24) is a typical uptick for opening up to stage 3. Pretty much every country in the world has had increased infection rates during phase 3. They tend to fluctuate from week to week, but many stay in a manageable range. With only 11 people in hospital (3 of them in ICU), I would think we are in a manageable range here in BC. Quit generalizing about BCers; it's really insulting. If that were the case, we would have far more cases already. I think you probably aren't listening to Dr. Henry, but many, many people are. She's on the TV news every night, news service online and in the front of the daily papers. Can't miss it. Every adult in this province knows what they have to do to avoid becoming infected. Denying her credentials, experience and access to all data concerning this virus in BC and suggesting that you have a better idea of what is going on/happening in the future is ridiculous.

I think I'll reserve judgment on Jake's game until after the playoffs. These games will be a significant measure of what to expect from him in the future. Really hoping he shows he can play against the best players in the world, in the hardest played games. C'mon Jake. Nose to the grindstone. Show us what you can do!

Stop with the sweeping statements, KOS. The majority of the peeps getting infected right now are the youngin's doing what youngin's do. How 'bout that house party (200) in Brampton the other night? Stay tuned to soaring #s in Ontario in a few days. Are Ontarians tuning Ford out?

60 or the new cases stem from the Kelowna 'events'. The real problem is that many of the people that were in Kelowna are not locals and have scattered their covid germs throughout the province. This makes the situation much harder to trace; which is concerning. Unfortunately, (as Dr. Bonnie has stated), if you ban these 'events', then the parties will continue underground and will be impossible to trace.

Turns out the most vulnerable were the elderly in care homes, but that was a problem long before covid came along. If the hospitals become overwhelmed with covid patients, everyone becomes vulnerable.
-
Way too level headed, Torts. Another important stat is 18 hospitalizations; only 4 in ICU province wide. Adjustments will be made in the coming week(s). Some businesses will need to be tightened up and there could be some closures. Every country that has reopened is showing upticks; including ones that have had the luxury of very flat curves. It's all about living with the virus in our communities, all the while preventing the hospitals from becoming overwhelmed with patients. It's a very awkward balance, but it can be done.

Unless the infection rate changes significantly before Sept, I think it will be as it was in June: masks are optional. A lot of folks are understandably concerned and will hold their kids back until they can feel safe about them attending school.
-
It seems that some of the peeps around here are getting so caught up with the happenings in the US, that they think the same will happen here. If Covid 19 has shown us that Canada and especially BC are quite different than our southern neighbours; especially when unity and solid leadership is concerned.

I was just pointing out that the full plan will be released in 2 weeks. They have been working on it since the schools reopened in June. I could be wrong, but I do suspect that they are releasing bits of information to get an early read on what people are thinking. Not voluntary is really good, as it will be easier to keep the class sizes down. I fully expected it to be volunteer as that has been the mo from the BC authorities. Still hoping that any teacher that has a vulnerability to the virus should be able to go on paid leave until there is a vaccine.
