The plan is supposed to be released in a couple of weeks. Some or the details have been leaking out recently.

Yeah, I still have trouble understanding why some folks go to a place where masks are required and then refuse to wear one. I think it is the prerogative of the business owner to: if you don't want to wear a mask, go somewhere else. Plain and simple. Enforcement is a huge problem as I don't think the majority of policeman have the skill or training to deal with this situation.

It's absolutely insane opening schools in the US states that are spiking high numbers right now; regardless of age group. I am astounded by the supreme ignorance. If the Republicans try to enforce enrolment, it will create even more chaos in that country. Here in BC, the plan is to reopen with K-7, while the teens will continue with their lessons online. Right now, the child help line calls have increased by 70% and the messaging has increased by 45%, so returning to school is an important factor for our kids. In the Scandinavian countries, the schools have been open for quite some time with very little evidence of the virus. The have recently increased to the teenage levels and continue to do well. I watch Denmark, as it is a similar size to BC.

Kind of ironic spraying someone without a mask (and anyone standing nearby) with something that will have him coughing up droplets all over the place. And then the 3rd cop comes running in to help out...without a mask on. LOL

I don't think KOS views/reads the Covid updates. Initially Dr. Henry was not a big fan of masks; mostly because of the shortage of medical masks for the front line workers. She was also following the lead of the WHO, as well as Dr. Tam and other health officials throughout Canada. This changed in early April where she announced that non-medical masks were helpful in reducing the spread of the virus; especially for folks that are asymptomatic (commenting that if you have symptoms, you should stay home). Since then, she has encouraged people to wear masks on public transit and when the opportunity to social distance has diminished. She has often stated that masks are a significant barrier in the spread of droplets by a person with the virus. "I do wear a mask myself and I encourage, and I recommend, strongly, that others do as well," the province's medical officer said during Tuesday's COVID-19 briefing. Her main concern with masks is that people may become overconfident with a mask on and not bother with social distancing or washing hands. In my own experience, this is very true for myself and others. She is also concerned that the masks may used incorrectly; especially the removal of a contaminated mask. She is also concerned for the people who cannot wear masks for various reasons. She doesn't want to see it stigmatized. As long as the covid #s stay low and the CDC teams can trace the cases, she will probably resist enforcing the use of masks. I would not say she is against masks, but she is reluctant to enforce them.

I think you are selling yourself short and all the other teachers as well, Stawns. Teaching is a calling for many and it takes special skills and intuition to be a good one. So many deride teachers as if 'anyone can do that job' but we all know that just ain't true. I would think that it is very intimidating for many parents who attempt to help their kids with their lessons. From what I've heard, they are focusing on K-7, with the idea that the young ones need the school experience more than the teens. As you well know, the young ones are on a huge developmental curve during these years and benefit from the various learning situations in the school environment. I've read that the plan is for no more than 15 children per class and that the focus is on social distancing and providing routine washing hands before class, before lunch, after lunch and at the end of the day. The staff rooms will be closed as well. I would think that there has been a lot of refitting in the schools this summer. The Scandinavian countries have had great success with the return to school over the past 2-3 months. Even Sweden has done well, despite the criticism they have received with managing the virus. Here's Denmark: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/17/world/europe/denmark-schools-coronavirus.html I hope that our leaders can get their plan out early and support the teachers by making sure they are fully aware of what is happening. Not knowing makes the situation even more stressful. It seems to me, that any teacher that has health issues that leave them vulnerable to the virus should be able to take paid time off. It would be foolish to push to go forward any other way. Hopefully you can get your doctor on board and he can provide the documentation. I will be paying attention to what the government will do in this situation, as I am sure there are likely many teachers that are feeling the same way. You and your colleagues safety is very important and needs to be addressed.

Buyouts are limited, so I think JB utilizes the buyout on another player. Sven only has 1 season left, so will go to Utica with a cap hit of just below 3M. Hearing that he is not joining the team for the playoffs indicates that he is done with them. He may even pack it in and go back to Europe, if he can secure similar $. Regarding Eriksson: with his signing bonus paid (3M) for 20-21, I can see JB sending a package to a team that needs his salary cap to reach the league minimum. The new team would only be paying Loui 5M for 2 years service, which is really not bad for what he brings. As long as the other part of the package isn't too damaging for the Canucks, it could be a win=win for both teams. Not sure who they would buy out. Even with Loui's cap removed, they still don't have enough for both Marky and Toff. Definitely they will have go forego re-signing some and/or making a trade.

She has abandoned random testing, as she doesn't like the 20-30% failure ratio. With such a small # of cases in the province, they were able to have an excellent view of the most problematic areas. The community tracing teams have had a 98% rate of success. This last paragraph is great, Deb. Love the correlation between the shoes and Dr. Bonnie. She's certainly filled a large set of shoes!

Great post, coho. Having spikes in the # of cases is bound to happen as the province continues to open up and Dr. Henry warned us that this would happen. I wasn't thrilled about the opening of nightclubs and strip bars, but if they don't smarten up, they will likely be closed anyways. It seems that Covid 19 will be with us for a long time, so peeps are going to have to learn to live alongside it. Unless you're willing to be locked down (which I doubt many are), the only protections against the virus has been stated hundreds of time. If we simply wash our hands regularly, maintain social distancing, wear a mask if social distancing is unavailable and keep our contact bubbles small; we will keep the new case #s low and eventually get through this in good shape. Just as we have done during the past few months. If the people of BC can't follow these simple guidelines, some/many of our privileges will be rolled back.

The healthcare team search through massive amounts of data and documentation on Covid 19. Nobody on this board has the knowledge, training and expertise that can compare with these people. The obviously believed that it was safe to return the children to school in June and obviously the were correct. Once again...NOT A CHILD WAS INFECTED DURING THE OPENING OF SCHOOLS. Your lack of respect for these hard working professionals (all those #brokenBCs), along with your lack of respect for the province (commenting that BC in a banana republic) has got me wondering what your motivation is. Is this aimed at me? If so, could you quote me saying that I am against masks or would never wear one?

[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
higgyfan replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Seems like Judd wanted more autonomy in his job. The Wild should be a good place for him. There's lots of very good scouts in the NHL. Hopefully JB has someone in mind that he can snag from another team. -
The BC healthcare team knew that there would be little interest in the majority of parents sending their kids back to school, so it was more of a primer for schools opening later on. With the low numbers, it was a safe environment. The teachers, staff and administrators have a much better idea of what to expect and have probably come up with some positive ideas for reopening later on. Nothing wrong with the plan and not a single child was infected. No story change. So essential care workers and health workers are uneducated?
-
During the brief opening, the attendance was extremely low and the adults leading the groups are professionals. Not a single child was infected by the virus during the reopening. Good job by teachers and staff! Unlike these summer camps, where many of the leaders are late teens and early 20 yr olds that have little training. Many people like to read/view information coming from sources that are knowledgeable about infectious diseases. Posting a bunch of headlines from areas that are swamped with Covid virus cases (and lack factual information) is not looking through a critical lens. One of the reasons this province is doing so well in managing the virus, is because the majority of people trust the healthcare team and are more likely to follow the health protocols. The current stats prove that they are placing their trust in the right people. Not sure what this means. If you meant attacked instead of attached; I agree. Personally, I have no problem with people wearing masks; especially in areas of high infections rates.
-
1. Dr. Henry has stated that children are not the drivers of the virus and that they have a much lower chance of becoming infected; especially under 12 yrs old. In this situation, the kids are all teens and there is no information showing the breakdown between the kids and adults who were infected. 2. Even in stage 3, BC has not allowed overnight camps for children. There's no way that Missouri (with their +750 daily new infections on the rise) should have allowed these camps to open. 3. Quit comparing the pandemic response in BC to what is happening in the US. You are fear mongering!

If they break the regulations (even by not enforcing their plans), they will get shut down. I don't think any of these businesses want to be shut down; especially if they end up being known for causing an outbreak. Here's an example of Brandi's Covid plan: http://brandislounge.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Brandis-Showlounge-Covid-19-Safety-Plan.pdf Looks well though out and very safe. Celebrities is operating with reservations only (no walk ins). They are allowing for inclusion of the protocols. https://celebritiesnightclub.com/ I don't see the necessity of opening up lounges and bars, but then again, I never bothered with them before Covid. I'm more of a neighbourhood pub type. If the clubs keep people safe, I am happy that the youngins' have a social outlet that they enjoy.

There are so many variables to the nightmare that is going on south of the border. I see no comparison to how the pandemic is being handled in BC in any way. After all...Ca has 8X the population of BC. Ca opened up way to early and now they are suffering the consequence.
-
The stats don't indicate that 'many individuals are being pressured to work unsafe'. An individual can feel unsafe at work (or anywhere else), but may not actually be unsafe. People have varying degrees of anxiety around this pandemic. Since May 9th, the province has had fewer than 20 cases province wide each day (exception of 3 days when it rose to 21 and 22). If these #s continue through next week, it will be 2 months. These #s are very consistent and there is no real indication of an uptick; even with the protests and reopening phases going on. Currently, there are only 2 ICU beds being used in the entire province, which is a really important stat to look at. I'm not saying we should let down our guard. This virus can multiply very quickly and we all know that. I just trust that the healthcare officials that have the entirety of BC data at hand, have a solid read on what is happening province wide. If there are changes to the stats they are monitoring, I have no doubt that they will adjust the protocol very quickly.
-
No, the issue is that (some) BC workers are not following the stated protocols. Petey40 stated, "It’s mandatory we wear masks on the job but we have a crew of about 100 and half the people wear them below their nose." People need to take some responsibility in educating themselves and following the obvious guidelines. You need to stop constantly using false information to attack the BC government (and health officials). The majority of the citizens of this fine province are very happy with how the authorities have dealt with the pandemic.
-
The #s are probably massively higher if the densely populated poor countries are included. I really doubt these nations have the wherewithal to test all their sick people and certainly cannot provide much in the way of healthcare. In many areas, they have to go and fetch their water and boil it, so 'wash your hands' is far more difficult; 'social distancing' is impossible; 'wear a mask' unlikely and 'stay calm' doubtful.
-
These players have spent most of their lives working their arses off to live the dream of the SC playoffs. Can't see any of them opting out. Regardless, if a player does opt out, I won't be judging him.
-
I don't have a problem with Jake going out for and evening with his buddies. I haven't seen the video, so I have no idea if he was social distancing or not. If that is an issue, then the club should be investigated for not applying the proper restrictions. I agree with Wildcam regarding him being in shape and prepared for the playoffs though.

With only 15-20% of the students returning to school, I wouldn't think it that difficult to allow for appropriate social distance. Again, not a single child was infected. Nobody knows what this situation will look like in the fall, so there's no point in addressing it right now. I don't see that at all. Seems to me, the general public is very clear about the guidelines that have been set. BC #s for new cases continues to look very good. I though there would be a noticeable uptick in new cases due to the protests, but apparently 85% of the participants were wearing masks. General public taking precautions at it's best! You are certainly entitled to your opinion Kos. Imo, people are taking the virus seriously and the message from the experts (including the guidelines) have been loud and clear. So far, the province has been able to maintain low levels of new cases and more importantly, low levels of ICU admissions. As stated before, any positive cases are taken care of by the fantastic tracing done by Dr. Henry and her staff. Even though there may be a spike in the stats, the approach will be the same. Stay calm...be kind...and follow the guidelines. Adjustments will be made as required, but I have no doubts that our health care experts will continue to lead us in the correct direction. #Kudos to Dr. Henry, Mr. Dix and Premier Horgan.

She encourages the use of masks if there is little chance of social distancing, which was hardly the case in the schools. Are you aware that not a single child that attended school caught the virus? There was a teacher that tested positive, but he/she was infected outside the classroom bubble. There's really no story here. Dr. Henry and her staff have a much better understanding of what the virus is doing in BC as they are studying the immense amount of stats they receive every day. The team has had a 98% rate on tracing any positive tests and have been very successful at stopping any potential community breakouts. These individuals are incredibly knowledgeable and experienced individuals who are committed to getting us through this pandemic.
