  1. These are hockey trades that often times both team's fans hate, but they are fair trades. It would be really hard to lose Boes, but what an upgrade on the defence that Dumba brings (and toughness). I like Tuch on Pete's line as well and his cap hit is very nice. We're not certain would Juolevi will bring, or Hughes for that matter. Could be a bit risky. This could be a nice d in a couple of years. Hughes Dumba Edler Woo Tryamkin Stecher (could slot in a draft pick or prospect)
  2. I do have worries about his physical condition and the amount of term he would want. It's next to impossible to acquire a top rd outside the draft, so it is an interesting idea, but a risky one as well. It seems even harder to make a trade for one without paying through the nose. It would take an awful lot of 'sweeteners' for me to like that idea. I don't know if the Coilers are that desperate.
  3. I believe the last year of his contract is the 20-21 season, so that gives him next season as well to pull things together. Regardless, I agree he is in the hot seat this offseason, but I don't think it will require huge changes to get the Canucks into the playoffs this coming season (for 1 round - the following season they will be off and running). Of course acquiring the necessary changes will have to be through a trade, which isn't easy with the lack of assets; or signing a ufa, which means possible +++$, +++term, restrictive contract. All the while, keeping the salary cap and the ED in mind. He knows he has to improve the right side d for sure and it would be nice to find a player that can take some of the load off Pete (toughness and skill that will create more space). Not an easy task, but not impossible either. The right two players could make a huge difference in the outcome of this season.
  4. Definitely a good idea to get Stralman. Not so sure about Duchene; mostly the huge $$$ and he probably wants term/NTC/NMC (of course that can me said about a lot of the UFAs' which makes these proposals questionable). The potential of having 3 scoring lines is great and if it doesn't work out; Duchene can play LW on Pete's line. My preference for Pete's left side is a scrappy playmaker who can also score if need be. (Zuccarello (undersized, but man is he tough and shifty), Lee or even Maroon). I don't really think Pete's line is a priority, so I wouldn't mind if they acquired Maroon for a shorter term and less $. The team just might pick up a player in the draft that could fit the bill, but it will take some time for this kid to develop to that level. Bo is too valuable as a top 6 C. My preference is to continue developing Gaudette for the time being and if it doesn't look like he can handle it; move him to the W and find another defensive C. Bo needs support on his right side; someone that is good around the net. Perhaps Virtanen can fill this role, but he needs to improve his passing, driving to the net and scoring accuracy. This years draft (as well as next year) don't show a lot of potential for a RW, except for maybe Connor. They may have to find this player in a trade at some point. If the Canucks pick up Boldy it could change either 1st or 2nd line as he plays RW or LW and looks a lot closer to NHL ready than many of the other picks. Certainly gives the coach a lot of options in the top 6.
  5. Poor kid; he was rising in the draft and now suddenly becomes a risky pick in the top 15. More importantly, like you have commented, will he return to hockey as the same player. His strong skating is what creates much of his 200' game and that is an injury that could have an effect his acceleration and stride. Hoping he has a full recovery.
  6. Keeping in mind that he's just 20yrs, I'd say he's coming along nicely. Admittedly, he is playing on a high scoring team, so his points are high, but he is also the youngest player on the team. Considering there are only 3 dmen in his draft that have played a significant number of games so far, I'd say Serg's jump to the NHL has be quite impressive. If he were playing in the Canucks lineup, fans would be pretty happy with him.
  7. Goldy will probably flee to Russia before JB gets a chance to trade him. If Sutter goes, it will mean Gaudette is running the 3rd line and he is just not ready for such a huge role. It always falls back onto Bo's shoulders to tend to the defensive zone starts, which ultimately takes away from the 2nd line's offensive threat. Schaller and Spooner can be sent down to Utica, but the AHL only allows so many pros on the team. Granlund is better than those 2 guys as he is very versatile and an ideal depth player. Unless Loui gets traded for another cap dump (which is an awful idea), he will likely remain with the team for the upcoming season. His contract will be much easier to move after that.
  8. Unless people were actually around to hear all the interactions between said parties, there is no way of knowing why Tryamkin decided to return to Russia. Basing facts on snippets of conversations and rumours will usually falsify one's judgement. But I do think everyone in Vancouver needs to stop smoking pot if/when Try returns
  9. Very odd list. But I'm happy with Turcotte, Dach or Cozens!
  10. If the Canucks take on long term cap dumps, high priced ufa's and trades for players without any regard to the salary cap or the ED, they will be doomed. Seems like some fans are becoming impatient with the rebuild and want to skip the growing pains of a young team. I don't believe that most of the star players (ufa) would want to come to Van, but if they did agree they would want ++++$++++term and NMC/NTC. With all the whining about Eriksson, would you really want to take on a cap dump from another team? The only ones that will get a decent return will have many years of term and the player will also block the prospects coming up. Trading for a good player from another team will require a good player from the Canucks; most likely a promising young guy already on the team. What happens to all the guys getting pushed out by these new guys? Let them walk? Send them to Utica? Trade for picks? My preference is to make gradual changes. Start with Bo's line; perhaps; Pearson Bo Kapanen -I don't think JB has to break the bank here or lose a terribly significant player. If they can't acquire Kaps, they see about Justin Williams or Vanek for a couple of years. Of course there's always the Loui experiment... I don't think Pete's line needs a change as Baer will come in healthy and we'll get a chance to see how well he fits on the 1st line. If they have to pickup some younger (27)ufas for longer term, have a look at Zuccerello, Connolly or Dzingal for longer term, but still no restrictive contracts. A similar approach for the D. Get a guy like Stralman short term to cover the RD for a couple of season (overpay him a bit for the short term). The time to acquire a really good RD is 2020 ufa. There will also be opportunities to improve as team' start getting ready for the ED. Again, there are more players than positions, so it will be a very interesting preseason. I would like to see a steady improvement by the team this year. They lost a lot of 1 goal games that they need to win. It would be great for them to gain some playoff experience; even if it's just the 1st round.
  11. By the time Try returns, Quinn will be 2nd pairing
  12. Yeah. Who knows eh? It just seems to me that the top 10 Fs are the bpa's over the dmen not named Byram. Broberg is the only other dman I've seen in the top 10 and that's not very often.
  13. Yeah, I would be over the moon if Turcotte was available at 10, but I don't see Turcotte, Zegras, Cozens or Dach still there. I think Krebs, Podk and Boldy will be there and to my dismay, JB will pick a dman.
  14. I would like to see Edler re-signed, but no way does he get protected at the ED. A full NTC or NMC should be avoided to the point of letting him go. I like @nucker idea of back loading his $ so that Seattle would have no interest in him as that might be a win/win for both sides. Really hope the rumour about Gardiner is fabricated though as he will definitely want $, NTC & term. If Edler walks, I'd much rather they sign an older vet like Kromwall/ Benn. That way they can easily make room for prospects that will soon be ready to join the team.
  15. I think we should thank the Hockey Gods that the Nucks didn't end up with Pulujarvi.
  16. Gotta wonder how Hansen would fair if he were just starting out and to a lesser degree, Raymond or Tambelini. Ballard would probably do a lot better nowadays. Kesler would be incredible if he were 20yrs old today.
  17. https://www.espn.com/nhl/news/story?page=campbell1113 Of all the kids that make it through Jrs, college, EU hockey; only 5% ever reach the NHL. Like you said, years and years of developing their craft and most of them don't even get a whiff at the AHL.
  18. The thing is, Gaunce never played the physical game; even in Jrs, so it's hard to develop in later on. Whereas Mac has always played that kind of game throughout his entire hockey career. Huge pims in Jrs and continuing into Utica. He's also at a much better age for developing into a NHL player.
  19. I wouldn't mind Podk if he falls to 10, but other than that, might as well make a trade. How 'bout Rangers get the 10th overall and Nucks get #20 + #49?
  20. Not that I've seen a lot of Kap in games, but I drifted over to the Leef's HF board and noticed a lot of derogatory comments about his hockey IQ. They also think he will want +++$s. He does have blazing speed though. Both Kap and Johnsson have benefited by playing alongside a couple mighty C's, so that has certainly helped their scoring #s. Looks like the Leafs may have decided on keeping Johnsson and collecting a return on Kaps.
  21. 4. The Oilers will have at least 15-35 top 5 picks before you die (depending on your age/lifespan). Only 5 of these picks will ever make the NHL. 2 will be top 6F, 1 will be bottom 6, 1 top 4RD and 1 will be a 3rd pairing LD.
  22. I figure 1 more year of Loui and then he can be traded to a team needing to be camp compliant. Even if Canucks need to retain 1M and/or add a player (don't know who will be around by then, but I'm thinking a guy like Granlund).
  23. Guiness is good for you! Boston's population has an extraordinarily high percentage of Irish blood.
