Seeing as Tanev has never had a 70 game season, it's very unlikely at this stage in his career. I think retaining 50% of Sutter's contract + Tanev gets it done. Florida has been floundering around in the permanent rebuild mode for way to long. It's time to get back into the playoffs. They would still have the $ to go after a very good UFA if needed. Florida also likes not having to protect either player at the ED, or being able to re-sign (without NTC at the end of their current contracts. Good proposal, Jan.

Agreed. In 2 or 3 years there will be prospects ready to fill some of the holes on the team. Go for mid range older vets who are more likely willing to sign shorter term deals. Identified weaknesses are top 6 LW + RW and a top 4 RD. On Pete's line, I like Maroon if he will sign at 3yrs or less. I wouldn't mind another go around with Vanek, who definitely takes a 2yr term. If the Canucks pick Krebs at #10, I think he is on Pete's LW in a 2-3 years. On Bo's line, I'd love to see Justin Williams (who will take ++$, but will probably sign for 2yrs). He sure is durable for his age! I agree we need 3rd line C and I like the idea of acquiring a guy like Nelson who can also play the W in support of Gaudette. At 27 yrs old, Nelson's #s have been very consistent and his flexibility would be valuable enough to allow for longer term. RD is a tougher one. Stralman would be ok as a placeholder, I too think Woo may be ready within 2yrs. JB should wait for next years ufa class if he wants a young top 4 RD, otherwise he'll have to make a trade. So true. The only way I'm happy with trading the #10 is if the return is a player that the team would protect as a core type. Absolute NO for Lucic. Nice. Even if JB has to sweeten it with a retained part or + one of the players being displace by the UFA additions. Great post oldnews.

Pete seems to focus more on setting up Boes rather than sniping goals. Would love for JB to find a playmaking LW to force him to shoot more. Krebbs could be that guy in a couple of years. What a playmaker and he can play C or LW!

Given his recent injury record, it looks like we all can. I don't think Jake would fetch much in a trade, so it is better to just wait and see how he pans out over the next couple of seasons. At the moment I'd rather have Detroit's rebuild players in Bertuzzi (3rd line LW/RW + starting to look like top 6) and De La Rose (solid 3rd line C). Both players were 2nd rounders. However, I will still cheer for Jake/Adam and hope that they will reach comparable levels in the coming year or 2, as they are both that much younger than the Detroit players.

Nucks were set at #3 and JB was obviously interested in picking PLD. The Loto came along and the Jets and Huricanes swooped down and bumped Edm and Van down to 4th and 5th. I guess the only good that came out of it is the Oilers were set to take Laine and ended up with Poolparty.

Easy to be all in on this when you don't have to foot the bill.

What about Trouba and Butcher though? -

True but if they want the highly saleable Franchise Hughes Bros, they will have to overpay. Why would JB even attempt to trade Quinn otherwise. He's awful high on the kid, that's for sure. -

Yeah, I feel the same way. If JB were to do a trade, I would hope he would acquire Hischier and Butcher. Keep Butcher and immediately trade Hischier + Tanev (50% retained) for Trouba (guarantee signing). I really doubt JB would trade Hughes though and I probably wouldn't either. -
We was robbed!!!!! Frikin' lotto.

I wouldn't want to see Kadri on our team as I think he has become a huge liability (somewhat how Torres became). So how 'bout... Toronto gets Marleau (if he'll waive) cap hit $6.25M X 1yr Retained salary Kessel cap hit $1.2 M X 3yrs Vancouver gets Johnsson (with a guarantee he'll sign - probably around 2.5-3m). I prefer Johnson over Kapanen as he has better hockey sense, has some grit and has better passing/playmaking skills. He is also a LW, whereas Kap is a RW.

Yeah, I could see him creating a lot of space for Pete. Brock would likely return to Bo's line, (Pearson Bo Boes) which would create 2 #1 lines. I still think Baer would be terrific on Pete's left side; especially with the 'pitbull' on the right. I definitely vote for Podk.

Yeah, just probably don't know much about him. Hobey Baker nominee and some really good % over the past two season. He will certainly challenge Dipietro for a spot in Utica; may even end up being the superior goalie.

Imagine if they'd been patient with Gustafsson and brought him along like the Hawks have done...

Great!

The Canucks are most likely wanting an RD or a C that can play wing (both these positions have the most value in the NHL). As usual the Lotto worked against the Canucks, so unless a better player falls to #10, I think they pick either Krebs or Soderstrom. These are not picks that will inspire a lot of Canuck fans, but they are both very good players regardless. Krebs is a good skater, has +++ character (u-18's captain), elite playmaker with fabulous passing and stickhandling at top speed, great hockey sense and good scoring ability. He can play C or LW. The Canucks are lacking in playmakers, so Krebs could be a great fit on the top 6 in a 2-3yrs. Soderstrom has excellent skating and hockey sense, is a mobile dman that plays well on the rush and is very good in his own end. His current coach describes him as a "character guy who is serious, meticulous, and likes to practise and train hard.“ Soderstrom has already has already graduated to the men's league (SHL) and has shown steady improvement. He seems like a very good partner for Hughes within a couple of years. Although I prefer other players that are in the top 8 (and barring one of them dropping in the draft), I would be happy with either Krebs or Soderstrom at 10.

Glad to see the 'Vancouver' removed from the jersey. Always hated that.

You bring up some interesting details, Jimmy. His salary cap and term wouldn't really be a factor for the Canucks. He had a down season last year, due to injuries, but he had 59pts in the previous season. He's a good skater, high energy player, a nasty agitator, who plays a physical game and is not afraid to jump in and protect a teammate. He is also disliked by a lot of player throughout the league and his personality rubs the old school stodgy NHL, the wrong way. I think he would add and exciting dynamic to our team and his game would certainly be a huge advantage. The big problem is what Nash would want in a trade. PK is still worth +++ assets and I would be wary of what Van would have to give up to get him. I also think that TG might have issues with Subban's style of play and flamboyant personality. I suspect Travis would try to rein him in too much, which would create a lot of problems.

[Proposal]Eriksson + 10th for Lucic + Bouchard
higgyfan replied to Hindustan Smyl's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
AHL it is. He played in the AHL playoffs for the Condors and was 3rd on his team with 3g 5a and a +3 in 8 games. Not bad for a rookie. Nuck fans are underrating him. It's probably a good proposal, but I really don't want Lucic or his contract on the Canucks, so I say nay. -
What you believe has no bearing on what actually happened. Whatever was said and done was behind closed doors.
-
Where is he in the rankings? I haven't seen a Soderberg mentioned until now. If he meant Soderstrom, he's dead wrong in his assessment.
-
MG left the team with 1 nhl prospect and a boat load of NMCs and NTCs that were extremely limiting to move. Sedins and Edler were never going to waive their NMCs and some of the remaining ones created negative trade situations. And then there was the horrible situation he created with Luongo and his massive contract. JB has made his share of mistakes, but you can hardly blame him for faltering in his dealings with the high number of unmoveable contracts and a prospect pool void of talent other than Bo.

Soderstrom?
