  1. "plays with considerable energy.. is a threat down the right side when he puts his shoulder down to attack wide and then drive the net", Draftin Europe 2018 "He is at the top of the food chain, a t-rex, eats everything and thinks everything is under him", Robert Ohlsson (Coach) 2018 "slick stickhandler … dangerous in the offensive end … plays a fast game … works hard every shift … deadly on the power play", ISS Hockey 2017 Sounds like a player that would pass the 2JBs audition and be a good fit on the team.
  2. Edm would jump at the chance and probably do a switch for 8th to 10th pick. Problem is...no way Edler's going to Edm. Maybe Detroit goes for it. He would be their top LD. He'll likely sign in Van, but I think he's holding out for a NTC.
  3. The only thing that can save Puljujarvi's career is... Laine Aho Puljujarvi
  4. Unfortunately for the Jets, you could be right as they have a cap hit problem and they will lose one of their great players this off season. Unfortunately for the Canucks, the Jets don't have a 1st round pick, so acquiring Trouba's rights via exchanging picks can't happen. Still, if he does become a UFA after next season, I would hope the Canucks would jump at it. They'd finally have their #1 dman and right side to boot!
  5. Virtanen will never have the meanness to become one of those guys. Just like Kadri will never stop becoming a bowl of jello whenever it's time to pay the price for one of his dirty hits. He has no self control and is on his way to becoming the next Torres and just like Torres, the eyes of the NHL will be on him from now on. Won't be long before his suspensions increase in duration and no team will have him.
  6. I'm not sure whether it is as much his maturity level, lack of confidence or perhaps a more introverted personality style. Goldy has a flamboyant personality; at just 17yrs, he jumped at the chance to come over to NA. Much about what you say regarding Podk's coming to NA as a pro and his reaction to landing up in the AHL is speculation and there is no way of knowing how he would react to that. It's hard to believe that a highly regarded #3 pick would not be successful in the NHL, but that would be speculation on my part. He does come across as a very competitive player, which suggests that he would only be satisfied by playing in the best league in the world. I suspect every GM will investigate this situation to the nth degree before draft day.
  7. I'm not sure the risk is as high as what people are saying. I can certainly understand the kid wanting to stay in his home country rather than play his Jr years in NA. Lots of Euro kids do the same and nobody questions it. The learning curve is much higher for these Russian kids as they come from a much different culture and rarely speak the language. The Canucks are very specific about the characteristics they look for in prospects, so I imagine their decision would be based on their interviews and observations before the draft.
  8. On the other hand, he could end up being Ovechkin 2.0. Can you imagine the years of whinning about taking Boldy over Ovechkin 2.0? I don't think he drops to #10, but if he does, it will be a very difficult decision for JB.
  9. You missed the most important point of his message.
  10. Yeah, I'm getting pretty hyped lately. My favourite player is Turcotte, but I don't think he's around at 10. You never know though. There's so many good players in this draft, which is making it very exciting. Canucks just might 'hit it outta the park' again this year.
  11. I like this deal, but the Ducks are up against the cap, so wouldn't be able to spring for Sutter. Ducks get Sutter (50%) retained 2.187 for 2 seasons + Eaves buried contract 2.075 for 1 season +10th overall Nucks get 9th overall + 20th overall.
  12. I really don't want Lucic anywhere near the Canucks, as I think it will create cap problems later on (and I think he has become quite a dreadful player). At least Loui's contract becomes more appealing (total salary drops and has a 15 team no trade clause) after the coming season. I suspect that Edmonton is on his no trade list. The Oilers are really shallow at 3C, but they also have a big problem with staying under the cap. I stated this proposal before in jest, but I'm beginning to think it might work. Van could add a LD prospect (not Juolevi) if needed. Edm gets 5.75m in cap hit (Russell + Manning's buried contract) + Gaudette Van gets 8th overall.
  13. Lucic Beagle Eriksson the $16M 4th line. Go Canucks Go!
  14. You gonna make the Tryamkin s real mad now, Vanuckles.
  15. They're really stuck between a rock and a hard place. Trading any of their good players immediately makes them a far worse team. They have very little salary cap (vs rfa's to be signed), so they won't be able to bring any decent players onto the team, via trade or ufa. I know! Oilers get Gaudette, + 4Mx2yrs cap relief (Russell) + 1.75mx1yr buried contract (Manning). So Gaudette frees up RNH and the Oil have 5.75 cap relief. Vancouver gets.....................8th overall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I do like what Horqist brings, but keep in mind that his contract has a NTC (4yrs @ 5.5M). Edler will probably have a similar deal (maybe just 3yrs), that would be a nice pairing. Tanev (1yr @ 2.3M) would certainly save $ for Pitts. 22nd overall in 2019 for Vans 1st in 2020 (unprotected) is very chancy. Almeida, an overage Jr scored 2 less points than teammate Tristan Langan (same age as Almeida), who went undrafted in 2018 (he will probably be a redraft this year, but I wonder how high). I'm not certain that Almeida's point stats are as great as they look.
  17. His defensive game was frightful and he was hurting the team. Gags only played 7 games for the Canucks last season and even that was enough for them to want him gone.
  18. Gags was sent down to the AHL because he wasn't good enough to play for the Canucks. If Loui were making Gags $, nobody around here would be talking about him.
  19. Nonsense. Dahlen asked to be traded because he thought he should be playing in the NHL. Goldy needs to play top 6 and like everyone, including his agent, have been saying...he has a lot of work to do before he can consider himself a permanent NHL player. Loui had plenty of opportunities on the top lines, but failed to put up the numbers.
  20. This situation could end up being good for Loui and the Canucks. I think he is very motivated to prove himself and will play lights out in the Worlds'. If that happens, there may be more interest in him. If he truly believes that his relationship with Green has affected his game, then perhaps he can convince a GM. As I have stated before, of all the plugs people bring up regarding Loui in a trade, I would only go for Kovalchuk. All the others would make the team worse. I do not see the Canucks bullying Loui by sending him to the AHL. He's too good a player for that league and it would be considered bad form throughout the NHL. More likely, he will be packaged with a younger player and traded before the end of the season.
  21. Loui is certainly underachieving, but he doesn't hurt the team with his play. Can't say that for Phaneuf, so I pass. Keep Loui for one more season. His modified contract kicks in and his total salary drops to $4m. That would be the best time to package a trade.
  22. Agreed. Many of the scouting staff (including Brackett) were around during the Gillis years, which was not a fruitful time for team drafting. As you have stated, Benning's leadership brought the scouting team together and gave them a common direction. I also like that he listens to his team and utilizes their findings if they make sense.
  23. Loui was signed in Vancouver because the management thought they could 'retool' and continue as a playoff team. In the 3 years he has played for this team (including that 1st year), he has never scored more than 11 goals. Picking up 10th overall would not be considered tanking for a rebuilding team, but I understand that it makes it harder for LE to contribute. In fairness, he has been put on Bo's and Pete's lines numerous times and has shown little offensive improvement. Green has often defended Loui, clearly stating that his defensive game and leadership are good for the team. Still, I would not want to see him traded for any of the other horrible contracts in the league; Kolvachuk aside.
