[Discussion] Detroit and Vancouver
higgyfan replied to theo5789's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Joulevi and 3rd/4th doesn't get the job done. The OPs proposal seems like a fair one, but I think each team's personal preferences nullify the trade. -
I disagree with the Masses this foward group is not the probem

Yes, it is looking that way for sure. But...if they hadn't fallen in the draft...PLD. (2016) They did make their won luck in the most 'non tanking year' by picking (2015) Boeser and Gaudette. (2017)Pete and (2018)Quinn are other examples of 'making their own luck.' All the luck in the world could have put the Canucks in the top 3 of the 2014 draft. Tanking would have been Gillis' decision, during the season prior to the draft. Still, the current management managed to 'make their own luck' by picking (shoulda kept) McCann, Demko, Tryamkin and (probably shoulda kept) Forsling. I'm not a big fan of Jake's, but in the long run, he might end up better than the 4-10 picks. I don't think their decisions effected the draft all that much, as they made up for it 'by making their won luck.' I think trading off 2nd rounders and a couple of promising prospects were bigger mistakes. Yeah, water under the bridge. Agreed. Really need better than Goldy, Roussel, Leivo or whoever on Bo and Pete's lines. I don't mind Pearson and a healthy Baer for now, but hopefully a trade or draft pick (over the next couple of years) will do the trick. The defense needs a Trouba type and a hope and a prayer that Juolevi/Woo/Rathbone become very good dmen. Really got my fingers crossed for the upcoming draft. Hoping management can -

Unfortunately the Nucks have to contend with the lottery messing them up. #5 in a weak draft (2014) is as good as it gets. luckily Boeser and Pettersson turned out to be way better than most expected. The team would be looking a whole lot better if they had been able to hang on to the 3rd overall in 2016. Pierre-Luc Dubois. Baer PLD Pete Pearson Bo Brock Think I like this over TOs top 6 -
I don't know how anyone can define the BPA this year as the 3-12 spots are all over the place. I've seen so many mock drafts and none of them have been the same except for the top 2, which everyone agrees on. I anticipate and interesting draft with some big surprises.

Can't remember the last time a GM used an offer sheet, but I think it is frowned upon throughout the league. If the Nucks were going to go against the grain and do one, I would go for Trouba under 8m. He would be worth a 1, 2 & 3 (rounders). He's certainly would be worth it; especially for the Canucks. I would hate to see our team give up 4 -1st round picks for any of the RFAs this year.

And then there are some others that are always negative about pretty much everything and I suspect they also want to appear to be clever. Both are the extreme of the other and are a minority on this board. The majority are quite realistic in my opinion. In the end, it may be a slight annoyance, but they do have the right to their opinions.

I did not show 'outrage', nor will you have any idea what I will think about this incident at dinnertime. I was not yelling at you. I do agree with about the media and Stone Age religions though. I'm sorry that you are desensitized to terrorist attacks and that you view it as being a product of the 21st century, but it is understandable. I don't watch the news anymore, because I also see the media's coverage (in so many cases) as disgusting As for me, I can only imagine how horrible it must be for the victims and their families. I don't know any of them, but I still have compassion for their immense trauma and loss.

[Proposal/Discussion] Eriksson for who?
higgyfan replied to Me_'s topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Kovy as a NMC Rags wouldn't bother Ryan has a (M) NTC, NMC Keep Loui for another season until his NTC becomes modified and then trade him to a team that needs to make minimum salary cap. Loui goes to new team with 6m cap hit and with Canucks retaining1m, new team only pays 3m. -
Definitely. But if he is serious about it, he could get his masters degree (post hockey) and then become a sports psychologist.
-
There's no such thing as a BA in Psychiatry. Psychiatrist have to get their medical degree and then continue on to get their degree in psychiatry, just like any other specialist. A BA in Psychology in much like any other (entry level BA); pretty much useless in the job market unless you can get on the job training.. He would have to continue on to get a Masters degree and then he could be a phycologist.

Pete's stated a few times that playing in the NHL has been his dream since childhood. He's the sort of player that wants to be the best he can best, so I think he will be in the NHL for many years to come.
-
It's a lot harder to carry your team on your back to win games in the NHL.

Where did you hear this Squam? Anyways...Jake is doing what a lot of 22yr olds are either doing, or wish they could be doing, at the end of a long period of mentally or physically tough work. He deserves a break from hockey before he begins the grind of offseason training. If he's still partying in June, I will be concerned.
-
I don't know if Jake will ever meet that description, but it sure would be nice to see him hitting guys like he did before the suspension. He's just one of those frustrating players that needs a lot of time to figure out his game. His pace is steady, but slow. I like it when he has Rousel on his like; it seems to give him more confidence.
-
Except that he stated in a sportsnet interview that he still wanted to go to Vancouver after his 4th year. The quote is on pg 53 of his prospect page. Atta boy Will. Real captains don't snub their noses at the team that drafts them.
-
Posted again so folks can see that Will's still wanting to come to Vancouver next year.

Does anyone have concerns about those players on the US National Team with the staggering points? Any potential passengers?

[Discussion] Swapping Bad Contracts
higgyfan replied to The_Rocket's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I also prefer 2 yrs of Loui over the players on the OP's list. Loui still contributes to the team, while the bulk of the guys on the list would hurt the team; especially those dmen. By the time Pete and Quinn need a raise, there will be quite a number of players that have left the team; including Eriksson.
