  1. The state of the team is not a good situation for our rookies; which ultimately effects their development as players. This is not a good thing for the Canucks or the Comets.
  2. What is his gfm for? A course in moving on from trollerbating? Maybe he should take up the ukulele or something.
  3. As a Canuck fan, I can certainly understand the frustration, disappointment and growing bitterness that the Comet fans have. I think Canuck fans would feel the same way if the shoe was on the other foot. At the beginning of the season, we were all feeling positive about the direction the Comets were heading in and excited about the incoming rookies. Since then, we have seen that our rookies aren't as ready as we thought and due to Canuck injuries, the Comets have lost a considerable number of players going to Vancouver to fill the gap. Gaudette and Motte were supposed to be playing in Utica and there has been a flood of other players that have left the team during the past couple of months. Of course nobody could foresee the excessive amount of injuries in Vancouver and the current struggles the rookies in Utica are having. Unfortunately for the Comets, it doesn't look like either Motte or Gaudette will join their team and the only way to replace them is through a trade, which is not likely to happen. This leaves the Comets in a precarious situation, as I believe they already have their quota of veteran players. This is not a good situation for either team; especially for the Canucks, who need a solid farm team to develop their young prospects. Hopefully the rookies will show an upward trend in the new year and we will see a change in the current pattern.
  4. Benning stated that they had had their eye on Leivo for quite sometime. Nobody thought that Leips would get picked up. The only reason he was, was that LA is such a terrible team and they are desperate.
  5. How did you go from this... ...to this?
  6. I think the real deal was Leips going through waivers to AHL and then traded to Marlies. TO wanted an AHL player, so when Leips got picked by LA, Carcone became the guy for Leivo.
  7. What makes you sure of that? Palmu and Jasek are just a year younger than Carcone and are certainly not playing as well as him. Gadj looks like he is a few years away from getting a sniff at the NHL. It's very possible that none of them (including Carcone) will become NHL players.
  8. Those top guys (other than Brown) are underperforming; especially Martinez 9pts/27games, Toffoldi 12pts/27games, while top scorer is Kopitar with just 17pts/26games. Looks like they have lost Kovy (14pt/25games) for +4weeks now. One can see why the team is struggling. Their tenders are pulling most of the Ws for them. Leips will get +++ toi with Willie at the helm.
  9. Sucks for the Comets that they lose Carcone and now they don't even get Leips either. Hopefully they'll get Gaudette when Beagle starts playing.
  10. Not all that close to the vest if you read the remarks I highlighted.
  11. He is right now, for sure. But there is a lot of hockey left in this season, so Dahlin and Tkachuk should not be overlooked in this race. Both of them are showing they are Calder type players and will give Elias a fair bit of competition for the title. Personally...I'd rather my team win 1st overall in the '19 draft.
  12. Leips would be a huge addition to the Comets. We will see a few more players joining them in the upcoming weeks as injured players return to the Canucks. Very Happy for our farm team and their fans.
  13. I prefer Horvat for C as well. EP is an awesome player and will likely be the best player on the team for many years, but if you look around the NHL, the best player on any given team isn't necessarily the C. We'll see how things go, but right now I think Bo has a clear edge.
  14. Other than last season (where I think he played quite well), Marky never seems to play more than +/- 35 games a season throughout his career in the AHL or the NHL, which kind of suggests he is more suited as a backup. Sometimes it seems that he loses focus during a game and his tending suffers. I have seen him make a world class save and then 10 mins later he lets in a pitifully soft goal. He clearly has the talent, but his lack of consistency makes him unreliable. He is still young enough to improve and he has a great goalie coach to bring him along, but learning to stay focussed during an entire game is very difficult. I think he will continue to share the goal keeping duties for the upcoming seasons, unless Nilsson or Demko manage to usurp him.
  15. Utica fans every right to critique their team. After all...it is their team. That's hockey!
  16. I've seen a couple of people make somewhat critical remarks, but I don't think they were 'ripping' anyone. Both Canuck fans and Utica fans are feeling very disappointed with their teams right now and this is a repeat performance from previous years. People are frustrated with the endless injuries (and callups that are depleting the Comets) which are resulting in way too many losses. I suggest you have a look at other team message boards (and not just NHL teams) during a losing streak. You will think your are reading the Canuck board. Fans are passionate about their hockey team(s) and will often voice their disappointment with extreme criticism.
  17. Awful high expectations for a rookie. Were you thinking he'd be a goal a game for the entire season? He has been shut down in a few games, but he is still a point a game so far. Bo's line is hardly scoring, so that leaves everything up to EPs line; which ends up getting too much pressure. Goldy is playing well, but Eriksson looks slow and there really hasn't been anyone else that has stepped up. Much of the Canuck's problem offensively and defensively is related to the injuries. Obviously having Boeser (and Baer as well) out is a huge problem offensively, but the Sutter and Beagle injuries are forcing Bo to play a defensive game with fewer chances to score goals. By the time the injured players return, it may be too late to save the season, but I am betting they will return to the kind of results they had earlier in this season. Bo will maintain an offensive line, while EP will have a pure goal scoring that won't miss on those fabulous passes he sends off. The team will have a good PP and awesome PK. You are right about EP though, he has proven to be the sort of player that 'works though' difficult times and is extremely adaptable to changing situations. He is the least of our worries.
  18. I've been thinking that as well. This appears to be far more extensive that what anyone initially thought. Baer had a good start to the season and I thought he had a good chance of quieting the naysayers, but now I'm wondering if this will ever happen now. Really feel bad for Sven and I am very angry with the NHL as well. I don't see that the NHL cares about or understands the possible lifetime disabilities these head injuries can have. I hope that these players (with the support of the NHLPA) can find a way to fight back hard. These 'unoticed' infractions happen often enough and the ones that are called, regularly receive pitiful suspensions that are hardly a detriment. The NHL old boys club doesn't like change, but they need to be held to task on this matter. I want to see a much greater effort to stop these head shots once and for all. Yeah, I know that there are accidents that shouldn't be disciplined and I agree with that, but for all others should be dealt with a significant suspension and heavy fine. I'm sick and tired of seeing and hearing about the countless young men that are suffering with ongoing symptoms caused by careless and overly aggressive players. Oh yeah... start testing for steroids please. That's my opinion.

    Sam Gagner | C/W

How would he know that? Was he at the practises and privy to coaching discussions? But yeah, Jeff...your opinion doesn't really matter. Really? Maybe he didn't play good enough and he was usurped? This is true. Or, in other words, Sam has to be on EP40s line. It will be up to Travis whether he produces or not. Sounds like Jeff Jackson should coach the Canucks! I do hope that Gags can play better this time, but I wish his PR agent would stfu.
  20. Agreed. I haven't been much of a Jake fan in the past, but I am beginning to see improvements in his overall game that has me changing my mind. Riding shotgun with Bo, playing on the pp, toi, scoring, takeaways and solid defensive plays indicate that he could become an impact player for this team at some point.
  21. He is certainly proving that his hockey sense both defensively and now offensively is not bad. He has shown good strides in his on ice awareness and appears to be on an upward developmental curve.
  22. True, but there's something to be said for 'being at the right place at the right time', which kind of defies the notion that his hockey sense is bad. Hopefully we are witnessing a surge of confidence and maturity that bodes well for Jake's future.
