  1. Motte's been fine. Like many of the others, he's playing more minutes and a bigger role that what he should. I prefer what he brings over Leips, but realistically...they are both placeholders, but Leips even moreso.
  2. Maybe Archie, but naming Guddy and Schall as 'below average' is simply Klouless. Agreed. Hockey fights have dropped from 803 in the 2001-02 season to 280 in 2017-2018 and is expected (pro-rated) to drop to 223 this season. I don't get why some fans were expecting Schaller to be a fighter, as he has only had 3 in the NHL and 5 in the AHL since 2013. He's a hard working 4th line grinder, that can play solid defence, finishes his hits and can score a few goals. That's his role and he does it well. I remember fans always screaming when a fight broke out after a clean hit. Nowadays it seems people think there should be a fight anytime a player gets bumped.
  3. Not sure what you're getting at here, but do keep in mind that Schaller was a fan favourite in Bean Town. That alone tells me that he played a tough game and didn't back down. Moore was doing a pest job on him, but there was no reason to have a go at him. If he was ever embarrassed to be a Bruin, it would be likely when the Rat would cheap shot players and act like a clown on the ice.
  4. He had dry spells during his fabulous season in the SHL. He'll push through just as he has done he has before.
  5. I think you are setting the bar a bit low for Olli. As a 5th overall pick, I am hoping he has a good handle at both ends of the ice. He may not be as offensively gifted as Quinn, but he has decent size and skill to deal with most anything in the d-zone.
  6. Great news. You know this team is in tough when Schaller is a top 6 LW. Come back soon, Sven!
  7. I was just starting a similar post. Fans need to realize that Gadj and Lind are the youngest players on the team and are facing adults for the 1st time (unlike OJ who played against men last year). For Lind, that injury may set him back for a bit, but we really need to give these young guys a chance to develop for awhile.
  8. I think it will all depend on what the team needs. If the guys aren't scoring, then EP40 takes charge. If the guys are taking care of business, then EP40 gets the puck to them.
  9. Harvard webpage has him 5.11 @ 190lb https://www.gocrimson.com/sports/mice/2018-19/bios/rathbone_jack_0z2g?view=bio
  10. The coach clearly avoids answering the last question (is Try NHL ready). I'm sure he would rather keep NT in Russia, so holding back on that ? makes sense. We all know that 'being a good KHL player' doesn't necessarily translate to the NHL though.
  11. LW is a weakness for the Canucks; especially with players that can put up points. It looks like Dahlen is nowhere near NHL level, Goldobin is struggling right now and Lipstic seems to be in Green's doghouse most of the time. Baer is the best LW they have and I think he sticks around untill a younger player can match his skillset (and that could be 1-2 yrs away).
  12. Agreed. He's a solid dman with some good upside. Love his fiestiness...did you seem him make that hit (on a player much bigger than him) where the guy goes flying over the boards? Always nice to have a home town boy on the team.
  13. ...and then he would be sitting in the press box for more games than Matheson.
  14. I think the Pouliot in Pitts ship sailed away a long time ago. I would love it if Van could pick up Sprong, but I can't see DelZ anywhere near the value. Don't know what Pitts is looking for these days.
  15. All the time...years ago.
  16. That Roussell Sutter Virtanen line will be a tough line to play against. I like it a lot. Nucks think Gaud is a 200' gamer with top 6 offence, so he gets to prove himself in Petey's spot. No pressure though Adam.
  17. How could Jake have changed the outcome of the Matheson hit? The players were already skating away from the incident and Jake, being the fastest skater would have already be crossing the blue line.
  18. Idk, I seem to recall a lot of scouts had Jake in their top 10. The only one that had him out of the 1st round was Button, who dropped him down in his last scouting report. Butt's not perfect, after-all, he had 1) S.Rheinhart, 2) Ekblad, 3) S.Bennet, 4) Draisatl and 5)Del Cole in his top 5. Not a big Virt fan here, but I think he would probably come 3rd or 4th in that grouping. I also think that being a hometown boy was a big factor in the Canucks drafting Jake. http://www.mynhldraft.com/2014-nhl-draft-prospect-rankings/ Now, back to Petey Boy... Being frustrated with his team and/or linemates is something all elite players have to get used to. I'm thinking he probably dealt with those feelings when he played on Timra IK. In time, the more skilled players will learn from EP and adapt to his style of play. Next season, there may be 2 or 3 youngsters (Dahlen, Hughes, 1st round pick) that have skills that are more suited to his game.

    Sam Gagner | C/W

He was rushed into the NHL. Another Oiler mess up.
  20. Other than playing for the CDN Jr team, it seems like Dipi is beyond the OHL now. Looking forward to seeing him with the Comets.
  21. Guy was recovering from 2 separate injuries this season, so his off-season training time was shortened significantly. @*Buzzsaw* mentioned in the GDT (and I quote for those who didn't get to read the comment) He takes what could have been a career ending hit at the end of the season... obviously that will make a big impression. To recover, he needs to build core strength and muscle... he does that... put on some pounds... not fat. That is a smart decision... he doesn't want to develop a weakness in his back and see a recurrent injury. But he's still a little tentative, he doesn't have the confidence he had last year... it will take him some time to get a feel for the game back. His skating style is going to change with the extra muscle... on the good side, he can work in the corners better and hit on the forecheck better. Brock still needs the NHL game experience to return to form; both physically and psychologically. This ain't no 'beauty league'. Have patience Nuck fans.
