Yeah, the NHL has changes since the 1990's and the enforcers are mostly gone from the game. There is still a tough element to the team and (as we have all witnessed in recent years), soft teams get pushed around; especially during important games. Guddy doesn't have to fight all that much; mostly due to his reputation. His presence on the ice dictates a calmer head for any opposition player thinking about running a Canuck. He is very good at clearing the goalmouth and preventing the opposition from interfering with the goalie (see Luongo). Apparently he is a great leader in the locker room as well. I will be very happy to see a healthy Guddy doing those 3 things all season long.

That's when it turns into a 5 on 4

Has he grown since hockeydb? Adam Boqvist Defense -- shoots R Born Aug 15 2000 -- Falun, Sweden [17 yrs. ago] Height 5.09 -- Weight 154 [175 cm/70 kg]

With the Canucks owning his rights for 3 more years, I think your statement is far fetched. I would think that T will want to play in the NHL when his Russian contract expires (2 years), so he will likely play for Vancouver or his rights will be traded to another team.

Quinn is almost a full year older than Adam and (at the moment) Boqvist is severely undersized. His brother is 6' now, so hopefully he will inherit the same physique. Similar players with great speed and IQ, but that shot of Boqvist's...

T's rights to Caps for 2019 1st

If he does go down to Utica, it would be great to see him in a more offensive role, so he might rediscover his O game (which he did in Utica years ago). 38pts in 46 games when he was 21yrs, so let's see what he can do at 24yrs.

I think most people see Olli going to Utica until he is ready for a call up. Once the coach has live proof that he is NHL ready, he will get his opportunity. Fans have changed their tune about him since Salo suggested that he is NHL ready this season. I am hoping that he gets a call up later in the season and can join the team after TD.

Can't remember being so excited about a rookie. I was stunned by Brock's performance last year and really hoping Elias can make the adjustment and have a great rookie season as well.

You taking your meds with alcohol again, Alf?

Where do you get this stuff, Alf? Maker had a great season with Amherst and was fabulous in the WJC tourney. Whatever he does has no bearing on Olli. Both guys will be terrific.

I've heard that as well, but it's kind of hard to believe when the KHL's best defensive player is Philip Larson. Then there's Nigel Dawes, who is the top goal scorer in the league. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/kovalchuk-datsyuk-larson-dawes-honoured-khl-awards/

You forgot Horvat = Towes 2.0; Gaudette = Kesler 2.0; Demko = Roy 2.0 and Juolevi = Oulund 2.0 Hockey dynasty here we come!

Nice separation in age between DiPietro and Demko. By the time DiPi makes the jump to the NHL, Demko will be in his prime and will be a great mentor.

It appears that teams are thinking that C is a position that needs to be drafted and developed in their system; much like top Ds. Kotkaniemi will most probably become a very good C in the NHL. The Habs' bigger mistake was ignoring the huge wealth of great C prospects coming up in the next draft. I'm pretty sure MTL will be picking in the top 3, so they will be in a good spot for a better C than Kotkaniemi (they could have picked a superb dman instead).

I was all for team Boqvist as well and I still think he will be a great dman. Keep in mind that he is almost a full year younger than Hughes, so it's natural that he would be less developed. He will be a similar player to Quinn with great speed and IQ and his shot is exceptional. Both players are undersized and will need some time to adjust to the NHL, but I expect the end product will be two very exciting NHL dmen. Chicago will do a great job developing Bovquist, so I don't expect to see him playing in the NHL for at least a couple of years.
-
And it's no coincidence his game improved so much after a year of development in the NHL.

Speaks volumes; comes close, but never crosses the line. Bright young man who has a big future ahead of him.

We might see a trade or 2, but I don't think a proper assessment can be made until the team gets together at training camp. Everyone will be working hard to make the team and there should be interesting lines and matchups. Some may surprise and others may show surprising chemistry. We may even see some of the waiver exempt players get sent down to Utica until JB is able to deal with players that aren't staying in Van (I'm talking about anyone who may have some value).
