Sutter had a good look at him during the WCjr camp and commented that he was a decent skater, a power forward type with good defensive skills. He said he still has work to do before making the jump to NHL, but would be a 3rd/4th liner. There's a very chance of him becoming a solid 3rd line player. Let's give a young guy a chance, ok?
-
And that's basically what the Canucks drafted him for. He will be more useful as a C and I think will score more points than Pyatt, as he has good playmaking skills. If he becomes a 15g 30a 3rd line C, fans will be thrilled. We will have to wait and see how his physical game pans out, but Sutter considered him a power forward type.. Also, people need to stop criticizing Gaunce's speed. Sutter commented that he is a decent skater for his size. It's his acelleration that needs improvement. He's still very young and has a ways to go to reach his potential. I have a feeling he is going to have a big year in Jrs this year and maybe even make the WJC team. Next yearhe will be playing for the Comets and (hopefully) getting some callups to the big club.

Yeah, I remember a time when you were lucky to see a game once a week. I'm happy to watch the games on whatever channel offers them.

He doesn't seem to be as angry as Kes. He certainly won't be a diver or chirper. I think (hope) he will be more like Trevor Linden.

No truer words...

It may not be a no brainer, but it is certainly a safer pick. Nichushkin is a high risk, high reward player.
-
You forgot... 1. Tanev wants too much money for his lack of skill. 2. Tanev's dad is just like Hodgson's. 3. If Tanev wants to play in Europe, he should go. It's a hell hole there. 4. See #1 5. See #1 And, last but not least... 6. Tanev wants guaranteed top pairing minutes; this will be just like the Hodgson situation. Assumptions, speculations and jumping too conclusions has become the norm around here.

Sutter also said he considers Gaunce a power forward that skates very well for his size. None of us (even you and Sutter) can tell the future, but I'd say that if Gaunce turns out to be a hard hitting, 2-way 3rd line C the team has hit a home run. Add that he scores clutch goals and is a good leader, I'd say he's a good pick for 26th overall.
-
Well, you gotta trust Sutter's judgement. Hopefully Gaunce will become a very good 3rd line C, rather than a 4th. That's pretty much what he was projected to be. Being Canuck fans, we all know the value of a good 3rd line C (seeing as we haven't had one since Manny had the eye injury). I see that Sutter is high on Horvat. Has he said anything about Shinkaruk?

Losers are not people who overrate the prospects on their team; those are homers. Losers are people that get their thrills by posting messages with the sole intention of baiting the other members. There seems to be a number of these pathetic individuals around here. So sad when a young person can't find more fulfilling ways to enjoy their lives.

(Article)NHL goalie rankings: Is Luongo still elite?

Shane O'Brien? -
Just because there is a 'report' that there's no talk, doesn't mean there is no interest or that Tanev wants too much. MG is probably trying to figure out how he can bring back Alberts and sign Tanev and stay under the cap. By the beginning of season, I suspect both will have signed appropriate contracts.
-
I too was disappointed MG didn't pick Nichushkin, but have since changed my opinion. Horvat won't score as many goals as Nichushkin but will bring many other + to the team. Valerie is flashy and Russian, which can sometimes end up being high risk as well. Happy with what Bo can bring to the Nucks. Also see him being a Canuck for many, many years.

Those lines make me wish that the Canucks management would do what is necessary to help Schroeder transition into a W. Shinkaruk Horvat Kassian Schroeder Gaunce Jensen I like those lines very much.

(Article)NHL goalie rankings: Is Luongo still elite?
higgyfan replied to naslund.is.king's topic in Canucks Talk
IMO, Lu has slipped from top two in the league to top 10. Joining the Olympic team only indicates top two in Canada; some of their opponents have better goalies. I also think that LU has a chance of becoming elite again if he can embrace his situation with the Canucks and the team defense improves. -

That would be Team Canada for the WC right? That's when the good NHL coaches are in the SC playoffs. As I've said before, Ruff's record is almost identical to Av's. Read the Buffalo boards before he was fired. The fans were saying the same things about Ruff as Canuck fans were saying about AV. If you didn't like how AV coached the team, you won't like Ruff either. -

Veteran and 'star' players tune out guys like Torts. Just look at the lack of success he's had with NY. Ruff is very similar to AV, in fact his coaching record is identical. I think you see more of the same with him. If you read the Buff board, you can see the same comments about Ruff as you do about AV on CDC. I think the team needs new ideas and a fresher approach. I think Eakins would bring this. I agree with the previous poster that a more 'hands on' approach could have a positive effect on the younger players. It might also be more effective in preparing the team for big games, which seemed to be an issue of late. Every NHL coach was a rookie at some point. If they have the skill set, they usually rise to the top very quickly. -

Highschool students sometimes need someone to 'crack the whip'. Elite athletes need (a management team) to encourage their best performance by providing strategies to enhance strengths and diminishes weaknesses. A thorough evaluation and subsequent plan for the player's participation and role on the team on/off the ice will develop commitment, discipline and character. A team system that promotes and utilizes the player's best qualities. An intelligent, experienced and talented management team is required. Also...like everyone else around here, Bieksa is entitled to his own opinion. -

Man. that dark cloud must just follow you everywhere you go. NTCs are just a way for a player to have some choice in where he is traded. In most cases, players waive their NTC if he can go to a viable team. The only players on the team that I think would not waive are the Sedins (unless it was to Detroit). Like Sundin, they would simply play out their year and then head back to Sweden. They are not as money hungry as the usual NHL player. Lifestyle is more important to them.
