  1. I was thinking that as well, Q, but then I was looking at the Ducks defence going into this season. I don't think I've ever seen such a bad lineup; even for a rebuild team. Here's what it looks like... Fowler Gudas (1st pair?) White (should be 3rd pair) Drysdale (has potential, but he's only 21) Hagg (even at 3rd he's a ?) La Combe (has played 2 NHL games) And that's it! The Ducks have +19m in cap space. I know they want the 1st overall next draft, but this defence is horrific. My guess is that Myers can slip into the 2nd pairing and would instantly reduce heavy load on the young defencemen. Tyler plays the season with the Ducks until TDL a returns a 3rd (or if he plays well maybe more). It is unlikely that Myers has Anaheim on his 10 team no trade list. Myers to Anaheim 2024 3rd round pick to Vancouver
  2. Averaging 14/15 goals on teams with terrible offensive #s. Give him linemates that have some offensive skills and he will put up a lot more points. Strengths 1. Two-way game 2. Hockey smarts 3. Penalty killing Certainly not a physical threat, but I've read that he is very good along the boards and will be a big help on the PK.
  3. Cal will turn 25yrs in Dec. Tick...tick...tick. My guess is that he will be earning his AHL income for most of the season; hence the 2-way contract. I hope I'm wrong. I am always impressed with the late bloomers in the league.
  4. Maybe, but if Broberg were a 3rd rounder, you probably wouldn't mind him on the team. The Canucks are putting a lot of time (and quality training) into Jurmo and given his size/speed, he just might make the team one day. Even if he ends up a depth player, that's a win for our team.
  5. But for last season's s***show, Martin is a very good AHL backup and could be a solid NHL backup on a team that can can play a decent defensive game. I would like to see him being Demko's backup on an improved Canuck team this season. He was thrown into a horrible situation last year and couldn't cope with the overwhelming demands. I suspect he will perform adequately if given moderate opportunities. Later in the season, if it doesn't look like he's managing well, then switch him with Silovs.
  6. It's obvious to me that... Hughes Schenn/Bear OEL Myers ...is not even close to... Hughes Cole Soucy Hronek Yes, the team still has depth issues, but each season, the prospects have improved and some may surprise at training camp. Others will take big steps each season from here on in. We haven't seen anything like this since the Man Moose days. OMG, prospect depth! The 2023 3rd pairing and depth will be determined at training camp and I expect an important addition during the season. I think the plan is to sign Bear to a low $x1yr contract in Nov and if Myers is moved, things will get very interesting. It's still early days for the Canucks. If they squeak into the playoffs this season, it would be huge for the team development. Next year they ease into the playoffs and get through the 1st round and so on. Maybe in 3/4yrs they look like Conference Final material. Anything can happen for a team that is playing at that level.
  7. Very happy for Sutts. At the very least, it shows that he has fully healed from long Covid and at best; he earns a chance to play NHL hockey again. Imagine coming back to the NHL after being away for 2yrs. Story of the year: can you say Bill Masterton Trophy? Good luck, Bradon.
  8. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-joni-jurmo-has-the-tools-but I accidentally came across this article when reading about another Canuck prospect. The team sure hasn't given up on this kid, as it appears that he has been working hard on improving his skills. The new management of the Canucks deserve credit for putting together an impressive team of trainers for their prospects. If there's any chance that a young player might reach the NHL one day, these trainers will help him reach his goal. If he has the character and work ethic, his odds are much improved.
  9. My guess is that Myers has AZ on his no trade list.
  10. Labanc far worse than all of our RWs. I think SJ should buy him out, if they can. They save 3.9m this season and then pay -2m next (when the have +++ salary cap). Canucks send a much better FW in Beau + 4th round pick for Sturm (2mx2).
  11. They actually have a solid top 6 with Smith joining the ranks. Guentzil had ankle surgery and will return in early November. Crosby, Malkin, Rakell and Rusk played in all 82 games, while Guenzil and Smith (Vegas) played in 78 games. Not bad for heavy minute top 6 players. Guentzil Crosby Rakell Smith Malkin Rust Solid goal-tending tandem The bottom 6 needs some help. Neito/Pitlick Carter Acciari " Ellis Nylander Top 4 pairing is very good Graves Karlsson *Graves will allow Karlsson to play his best offensive game Pettersson Letang *Solid pairing that can play offense and defence Joseph Ruhwedel/Smith *Smith has top 4 potential The top 6, along with Karlsson and Letang will add a lot of offence. I think the Pens will make the playoffs and with the competitiveness and experience of their core players, they may do very well. What they lack is depth, which may end up being their greatest weakness. Dubas is probably not finished with his improvements on the team.
  12. The big picture tells a different story. The problem for Bo, is that he will be expected to be the #1C and the main driver for point production. Nelson will be 32yrs at the beginning of the season and has 2yrs left on his contract. He also had a career year (75pts), which Bo has never come close to. After Barzel and Lee, the offence is looking grim for the Isles. It seems that they want to play Barzel on Bo's line, but that will hurt the other top 6 line. The Islanders prospect pool doesn't appear to have much in the way of offense either and it seems that the Canucks took away their top C prospect. NYI is a team that is aging and the lack of young replacements will make the expectations on Bo's performance overwhelming. Due to salary cap issues, it's not likely they will acquire a couple of top 6 Ws to support the offence. The Isles have solid d and g-tending, so they may continue making the playoffs, but not contending; which makes them losers when it comes to drafting decent prospects. Meanwhile, Miller will continue to be the Canucks #2C and will benefit from having better linemates along the way. With EP at the helm, the team is solid offensively, while the newest additions will bring a more defensive angle. In 2 or 3 years, the team will have several prospects securing roles and their ELCs will keep the Canucks out of cap hell. Eventually Miller will move down to the 3rd line as LW or C. Imagine a JT-Nielsen-Podz line. Or if Raty doesn't become a 2C, a JT-Raty-Podz line could be a terrific 3rd line. There are so many options for the Canucks in the coming years as the prospects start joining the team. Miller's contract won't be an issue as he will still provide value even on the 3rd line. The Canuck future is much brighter than the Islanders.
  13. Miller's contract won't drag too much, as the Canucks will continue to be a team that score a lot of goals for many years to come. When he's motivated, he can bring so much to his game and seems to have chemistry with anyone that gets thrown onto his line. Eventually he will from a 2-way crashing and scoring line with Podz and Nielsen. Wilson's 6m won't seem so bad as the salary cap will continue to trend upward. He is a 100% Capitals product who will lead the way as Captain when Ovie retires. That will be when the Caps start a rebuild and Wilson will be the one that keeps the environment safe for the newbies while showing them how to NHL play hockey. Horvat is already overpaid for what he brings to his team. It will be very difficult for him to come anywhere close to repeating his last season's stats; especially playing on a team that doesn't have much offensive power (not 1 player had a pt a game last season). Unfortunately, the Isle's are becoming an old team and don't really look like a contender anytime soon, so Bo may find himself on a team starting a rebuild in a couple of years. Huberdeau is in a similar situation as Horvat, due to the Flames have an even worse team offensively and 4 of their top players will probably not re-sign with the team next July. His is by far the worst contract. Afterall, that's a hefty sum of 10.5mx8yrs for a player that has only had a pt a game 4 times in his 11yr career and that was on a team that had more offense than Calgary. Geez, take away Toffee's pts and it looks very grim. Kadri is in the same boat as Huberdeau when it comes to playing on an aging team that has little offence. Although he plays a more rounded game, one has to address the reality of a guy who will have turned 33yrs old at the beginning of the coming season and still have another 7mx6yrs on his contract. I wonder how long he can continue playing his style of game.
  14. Calgary really only had 2yrs of Tkachuk's greatness before he asked for a trade. It would be the same thing in Vancouver, if they had picked him. My guess is that Podz has a sense of loyalty and gratitude towards the Canucks and will likely stay with the team for a long time; even if he becomes a great player.
  15. The top 4 is not near as good without the pair they lost. They are betting on Hughes replacing Graves, who played alongside Hamilton on the top pair. The real test will be how long it takes Luke to play like a #1 LD on an NHL team. Hughes? Hamilton (Could be fabulous) Siengthaller Marino (not bad) Bahl/Smith Miller (underwhelming, but they were smart picking up Miller). Like his brothers, Luke has a huge offensive upside. If he has the elite IQ that Quinn has, he will adapt to the NHl defensive side of the game. Already 6'2" @ 184 lbs he will have a physical advantage over his big bro.
  16. So we should wait and see how he plays in the coming season? Now that's a novel idea AW!
  17. If they do bring in any more vets, it's got to be on a short term contract. I do think there are some forwards (other than the ones you mentioned) that may be ready in a year or to. It would be good for them to get some experience at some point this season. It seems that the Canucks have a much better training and developing system in Abby. It has never seemed to me that the Canucks focussed much on their prospects to the degree that other teams have in the past. I am hoping that some of the prospects that are getting close and are playing well in Abby, will get a callup during the season. I am concerned that Podz will be sent down because he is waiver exempt while they keep guys like Dries and so on. Hogs will likely get a chance, but there are a lot of FWs competing.
  18. Suter is likely still unsigned because he wants too much $. He was making +$3.25m last year, which was already too much. He would be a decent addition as the 3C, but the Canucks can't do it; even if the price was fair. I don't see Dumbo as an economical RD for the team, as he will likely want $ and term that the Canucks can't do. No more FWs for the team; there are too many as it is, which is blocking young talent. Trade Beau + for a short term 3C and leave it at that. The real story of the lineup will unfold during training camp. I am hoping we see some surprises this season. Every year, we see young players on other teams making the jump to then NHL and some of them were very late pics in their draft. This team has several players that are 0-3 yrs away from joining the team, so I would hate to see any of them get stuck in the AHL for longer than required. This isn't the year for the Canucks anyways. Maybe they make the playoffs and lose in the 1st round, but they are still a few years away from contending. Stay the course and develop the kids properly. Let them play in Vancouver as soon as they're ready.
  19. I agree that the Sabres are likely the best team for him to play on. They are a rising, young team that have a variety of talented players that will support him well. At the very least, he will be similar to Caulfield, but I think he will likely be much better. It will take much longer for Canuck fans to see what Willander will do in the NHL. If he can develop to his full potential, he will have an impressive career.
  20. Alf would not approve, so I FIFY before he sees your mistake.
  21. I don't see a contract signing in the offseason. Pete is training hard this summer and will put in an eye-popping performance in the coming season. He is the Canucks franchise player, who will get a very lucrative contract later in the new year. The only questionable part of all this, is the term. He's in the drivers' seat, so he can take his time to decide what is best for his career.
  22. For me, it's a no-brainer to trade Beau (even if it means a retention or sweetener) for a vet 3C (if at all possible). Hogs is ready to join the team and Pods isn't even included on the team roster anymore, due to so many FWs. The only Winger on the Sharks, that can play in their top 6 is Barabanov LW. Beau could easily play on their top 6 (RW or LW) for this season, which would give their young players another year to develop. Beau (1m retention + 6th rounder 2024) for Sturm C ($2mx2yrs) 28yrs old Kuze Pete Mik Hogs JT Brock Garland Sturm Pods Joshua Bluger Studnika Pizza/ Aman
