  1. I don't watch post game discussion; usually off goes the TV when the game ends; sometimes even before I figured Hogs' game was negatively affected by a lingering injury. He has had surgery this summer, so hopefully he returns 100% in the fall. He is in the position of being waiver exempt, so may have to spend time in Abby while the coaching staff are making decisions about the players. Bruce's responsibility is to oversee the coaching of the entire team, but the management replaced the defensive coaches, who were in charge of the defensive systems and individual player development. Bruce was a great replacement for Green and the players seemed to respond to him well. I doubt there are any perfect coaches in the NHL; every one has their weaknesses. I'm glad they brought him back for this season, but I do think he will be replaced next year.
  2. Good signing for the Soilers. Janmark frees up some C minutes so they can utilize RNH as a winger when needed. At the price, he could have been a decent 3C for the Nucks.
  3. But, but...how could Demko not invite Captain Bo?! Clearly not a team leader and disliked by the players.
  4. The Nuck management have a long history with the Penguins, so it would likely they have had some discussion with them during the offseason. Yes, I am assuming that the Nuck managers would have discovered that Marino was available for trade. Seeing what Pitts got for Marino, that would be an odd request for a Canuck trade. Nope. JR + Alvin are tight with the Pitts management and every GM has to know how desperate the Canucks are for an RD. Maybe they just didn't think Marino was a fit for the team. Maybe they have another plan. Whatever. Go bark up another tree.
  5. IMO they did miss out on a great option for a fabulous price. I am aware that there is still time to find potential the trades before season begins in Oct. That is hardly being 'completely short-sighted and convoluted.'
  6. In other words we shouldn't have opinions on this Canuck fan board? You must have been beside yourself when Benning was in charge.
  7. We'll see. Somehow I don't think it will be a bargain like that Marino trade though.
  8. With a D that looks like... Hughes Schenn OEL Myers Dermott Burroughs ...maybe they should be checking out every potential RD trade around the league.
  9. I s'pose having lots of new players will have an affect on team character. What that will be is anyone's guess.
  10. Severson lived in NJ for 8 yrs, I guess that makes Kelowna 3rd home. The trade for Marino was next to nothing; where were the Canucks? Did it happen before they woke up this am? Yes, great to have a dman like Severson, but does Hughes really need such a skilled (and very expensive) partner? Kuzy, Horvat and Severson will all be UFAs at the end of this season. Will be perpetually stuck with the OEL Myers combo? Not much. You said it yourself, 'We need Severson as much as New Jersey needs Miller.' I would much rather have Hogs + 3rd for Marino($4.4x5yr) Great exchange! Acquiring UFA Lyubuskin($2.5x2yr) or Miller($1.85x2yr) which wasn't even considered I guess. I'm not sure Jersey really needs Miller though. They have a couple of up-and-coming top 6 Cs; two top 6LWs. What they really need is a #2RW. Garland for Marino!
  11. And 29 when he starts the 1st year of his +++$ and +++ long term contract. As apposed to trading Hogs + 3rd for Marino($4.4x5yr) and acquiring UFA Lyubuskin($2.5x2yr) or Miller($1.85x2yr) Just sayin'...
  12. Mercer is a young offensive C (likely top 6 one day), but needs +++ work on his offensive game. Sharangovic doesn't play C in the NHL. Jesper Boquist plays C and LW for the Devils. His last season shows a solid offensive upside, he can play defence and will be very affordable to re-sign. His f/o skills need ++ work. It's hard to say whether Jesper is the right 3C for the Canucks.
  13. One would think that Hogs + 3rd would do. I can't believe Pitts would sell Marino for such a low return.
  14. It's great to see the Canucks making prospect development essential to the team. So many of the top teams have kids from the lower rounds that develop into NHL players. Having these young guys playing and developing together on the farm team and then continuing onto the parent team builds loyalty, common goals, chemistry, confidence, friendship, common goals, etc. These are the players that will have a pride in their team and are deeply bonded. Many will become friends for life.
  15. I can't imagine JT signing with Flames. If he doesn't sign in Vancouver, he's heading back east. Home sweet home.
  16. Yeah, they are. 2 of them are already playing in the NHL at 20yrs. Quinn is the best on their farm team and will probably be in the NHL in the coming season. All the heartbreak losing over the past 10 yrs is paying off now.
  17. I doubt Bruce has issues with Hogs. Bruce was dealing with an injured young player, so had to adjust his toi and role to his level of play. Hogs' had good offensive awareness/skills and he is a speedy skater, with creative moves. At the moment, he doesn't fit in the tip 6 and needs to work on his defensive skill to play on the bottom 6. It would be a mistake to trade him at a low point in his game and seeing as he's waiver exempt, it would be a perfect time for him to work on his defensive game in Abby. Best case scenario is that he returns to the Canucks as a more complete and versatile player; maybe even before the season ends. It would be great for him to gets some NHL time before the team heads into the playoffs.
  18. Chychrun is a great player on a very nice contract. He is a natural LD, which this team doesn't need. Has he switched to RD for AZ?
  19. I don't know if the Pens would let go of Pickering, but I would be happy with Poulin instead. I think they will try to trade Kaps or let him walk. I don't think he fits their team, for whatever reason. It will be a hard sell to trade Zucker. His career has taken a nose dive since moving to Pitts. $5.5M Kaps might be a good pickup for the Nucks, as he is at a career low in terms of value. They could probably sign him in the Dickinson range. I don't think the Pens do a swap; especially considering D's 2yr term. Maybe some team will take him for a 4th rounder or something. Podz Pete Brock Kuzy Bo Mik This top 6 is interchangeable/fluid Pears? Bluger Gar? Kapanan(trade return?) Dixie? Lazar Locks ? might be traded/Hogs starts in Abby Hughes Marino OEL Myers? Rath Schenn Burroughs Still need to upgrade bottom 6 and defence. Pears, Garland and Myers (some and/or all) can be used in trades for the upgrades. I'm not sure where Hogs' fits in with this team, but he doesn't require waivers, so it is best to give him time in Abby to see how he develops.
  20. I found an article about JR commenting on extending Bo and/or Miller's contracts. Keep in mind the date is May 27th, but it sure looks like his choice for the team would be Bo. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-rutherford-horvat-miller-contract-talks
  21. Pears, Garland, Myers traded for pics would return around $14.2m. It's doable, but I do worry about the final $ and term a guy like Klingberg would get. It's a similar situation as a Miller signing. Same age; maybe even more $
  22. I've read (a couple of times) that the management is working on a new contract for Bo. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/bo-horvat-canucks-talking-contract-extension
  23. If the Canucks take him, won't they be in the same situation? He's not good enough to be in the NHL, so would only play just a few games. They already have the LD they need for the upcoming season and all of them are able to play the NHL game. If the Canucks have to take Joseph, it should have little effect on their trade proposal. Miller for Marino +Bluger + Poulin + Joseph $.825 (if they must).
  24. I don't understand this. Can they not waive a player? Joseph isn't even on their team salary cap roster.
