  1. I agree that the Pens are the obvious partner. Looking at their cap, they need an extra $1m over and above Marino's salary for JT. The only player they haven't signed is Kapenen, so he might be part of the trade or cut loose. I recall reading somewhere that JR really likes Bluger (UFA after this season), so he may want to squeeze him into the trade; leaving Pitts with a salary cap of $1.2m after the JT trade. At the end of the season, the Pens have multiple UFA contracts (well over +$10m), so signing JT wouldn't be a problem. I don't see a conflict with the Malkin signing, as they know that he will be spending much of his contract on LTIR. Penguins get Miller Canucks get Marino, Bluger + Kapenen? +(Poulin). I don't think the Pens want to re-sign Kapenen and the Canucks may not want to sign him either). These players allow the Nucks to make a couple of trades that will cover the increase in salary. I'm betting that JT ends up in Pittsburg and the Canucks get a return somewhat like this one.
  2. Good questions Alf. Only time will tell, I guess.
  3. That was last season. This year, we have some good additions to the team and the young players have another NHL season under their belt. They grew into a team during the playoff run and all of them know what they need to do during their offseason training. Management still have to build up the d, but there is plenty of time to do that before the season begins. I'm not expecting them to do far into the p/os, but I think they will get to a 5th or 6th game in round 1.
  4. I don't know that the Yotes would do this trade, but Sods would be a huge addition to the Canucks. I so wanted him in that draft, but when Podz dropped to 10, it was a no brainer pick. Sods came right after him at 11.
  5. If the same thing happens again in the coming season and he walks for nothing; that would be far worse.
  6. That would be awesome for sure, but I don't know about Dallas taking Hak. Regardless, a defense of Hughes Klingberg OEL Marino Dermott Schenn Rathbone Burroughs is pretty darn good! Gotta trade Garland + Myers (for a pick) to get some $ for Klingberg though.
  7. Ha ha. I wasn't thinking of a franchise RD...but that would be nice! We are so plugged at LD that I only see Byram as a viable trade for an RD of similar value. I don't think the Canucks want to be playing the +7m OEL as 3LD
  8. Yeah team management. I was really hoping they'd pick him up yesterday. What a great signing for the other team
  9. That's too bad and for a cheap contract too. Sure hope the management has a plan to acquire an RD or 2 before the season starts.
  10. I don't mind Dermott and Rathbone sharing the 3LD role alongside Schenn. The best case scenario is a Garland trade returning an RD good enough to play alongside Hughes. Then sign UFA Miller cheap. Hughes Marino/Roy OEL Miller Dermott Schenn Rathbone Burroughs Trade Myers to Kraken for Geekie or 2nd. Being a minute munching RD, Myers is perfect for a rebuilding team.
  11. That trade has a strong possibility of coming back and kicking the Nuck management in the arce. The 3 young Canuck players could easily develop into top 6 FWs and a top 4LD. Byram could have some more head trauma. If you're going to trade those 3 skilled young and developing players, it better be for a young and very gifted natural RD.
  12. I don't think they will lose him for nothing. They won't make the same mistake again.
  13. I hope you're right Fanuck. Acquiring a top RD prospect is crucial.
  14. For sure JM. I could even see a team trading him without even thinking about re-signing him as a UFA. I don't think they give up a king's ransom though
  15. They may have no choice. If they go into the season without a trade, the most competitive time to trade hims is at the TDL.
  16. I think the UFA signings have shown that the demand for Miller is lower than what most people thought. I would think it is mostly due to concerns around his age and potential term. Miller himself, may be overestimating his value. I really hope I'm wrong about both of these scenarios. I think the Canucks stand pat, unless they can come to a reasonable $ X term deal. As the season plays out, there may be a couple of GMs who begin panicking when they realize their team isn't good enough. Canucks might wait until TDL and grab the best offer (there would be a lot of competition amongst various teams). Myers will not be traded unless +Garland can return an acceptable RD. A player like M. Roy comes to mind.
  17. Not to dismiss Horvat, but this kid had over a point a game at 22yrs old. At such a young age, he has become the Blues 1C and is only going to get better as he is a long way from his prime. He's already surpassed Bo and as the years go by, will surpass many other 1st line Cs in the NHL. Great right shot playmaker. He gifted his wingers with +30g seasons; Buchnevich's best until last season was 20g. His f/o 49.9% is impressive for a 22yr old. I also wish the Nucks could have signed Pete to a contract like this one (and he's yet to have a pt a game season).
  18. For sure. He also played most of the season on either Bo's or Miller's line and has good chemistry with both of them; something that has difficult to find for Bo over the years. He may not score top 6 points, but his excellent work along the boards and keeping the puck in the offensive end has supported his high scoring Cs very well.
  19. Romanov is the kind of player that will work hard at developing his game. He is speedy and very physical. Here's what Wideman has to say about him... “He’s a really good player,” Wideman told The Post. “He’s just extremely hard to play against. He threw a couple just insanely big hits and he’s strong, he’s really competitive and he works really, really hard at his game. He’s constantly watching his video and trying to work on things in practice. He’s out there like a half-hour before practice starts each day. “He’s just one of those guys, they gotta basically drag him off the ice after practice.” Kind of sounds like the defensive version of Podz. Read this and weep Canuck fans... https://nypost.com/2022/07/11/alexander-romanov-bringing-much-needed-speed-to-islanders/ It is disturbing to think that Canuck management were unaware of that possibility. Hopefully it was just a matter of NYI having a draft pick that was two pics lower than the Nucks.
  20. 49%F/Os, good at PK, ranks 36 overall in hits, considered: 'gritty, hard-working player', comfortable playing C or RW. He was a #20 in his draft, but his lack of scoring forced him to rebuild his career and has become a defensive FW. I haven't read any reports indicating that he is slow. He's definitely been linked to the Canucks as a UFA of interest.
  21. Yeah. Put him on waivers and see what happens. Maybe a bottom feeder with ++salary cap will take him.
