  1. Depends on the $. He would add +++ toughness on the 3rd line, which is also a role the team needs badly. Would rather have him than Beau in the lineup.
  2. I like acquiring Tanev for the coming season and seeing how he does healthwise. Wallinder is likely 2-3yrs away and even then, he may not be able to step into the Quinn's partner role. If Tanev fits in well for next season, they could and another 2yrs. I don't mind losing the 1st for Pesce; he's a decent partner for Hughes, but I don't like the term. 7/8 yrs along with the same for Hronek could end up being a huge liability for the team in the future. I don't think Quinn needs a costly shut down dman for a partner. He is that good.
  3. Hopefully you're wrong Mikey! https://www.canucksdaily.com/LATEST-Canucks-call-a-last-minute-meeting-with-one-of-the-top-2023-defensive-prospects-before-the-draft-248890
  4. I think it would be a no-brainer if he was an RD as they seem to have more value. Regardless, he is looking like a great pick if they can land him.
  5. Calgary gets some cap relief in the trade, but Sharang isn't the player people think he is. He's a big guy for sure. but he plays like he's much smaller. He hasn't shown a consistent path of development and I'm not sure about his defensive game. He has proven he can score, but has been pushed down the lineup in NJ. The Devils get a much-needed proven goal scorer on their right side. He will do very well in NJ.
  6. The NHL hierarchy doesn't like controversy; nor would they implement a policy that could lead to (star) players leaving the NHL (Russians, some Christians and others). Hence, their autocratic decision. Sadly, it takes a long time for human beings to change beliefs, attitudes, opinions, etc that have been passed from generation to generation, since the beginning of time. After all, look how long women have been fighting for equality. Ignorance rules!

  8. EK has played 7 seasons with a rebuilding club and now he's in his 5th year with another rebuilding club, with 4 more years to go in his contract. It's not all about the money. For most NHL players, it's their drive...their purpose to win a Stanley Cup in the best hockey league in the world; the most difficult championship to win in sports. The Sharks will get a good return for that will be far more valuable for a rebuilding team. It will be a win/win for EK and the Sharks.
  9. My preference would be to keep Miller, but if you're talking about a Miller/Boeser for Lindholm/Weegar trade, I could be onboard for that. Unfortunately, Weegar has a NTC and with Hanifin leaving next year, the Flames will need Weegar on defence even more.
  10. 1yr and 3 months younger and will be a UFA after the coming season. I'll bet he gets a comparable contract to Miller. Only once in his career so far, has he scored above +30 goals.
  11. Being a scorer, Kuz was never expected to play the defensive game in the KHL. I think he very motivated to become the best player he can be and is working hard to improve his game over the offseason. Chances are, Kuz will be an interesting player to watch in the coming season. https://www.simcoereformer.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-under-the-microscope-fitter-focused-andrei-kuzmenko-would-be-even-bigger-hit I like this quote from the article... "If he can apply the same level of dedication to his fitness — it’s good, but not NHL good — then he’s going to take his game to a more complete level".
  12. I wouldn't mind wrenching Bjudstad away from the Coilers...they just love him over there. Great defensive game, with a bit of offence. Big physical right shot C, that is a great PK guy. Can play W or C up and down the lineup, just in case Raty makes the jump earlier. Solid versatile player. He will get a raise in UFA as he's the kind of player teams want in their bottom 6. Maybe Nucks could get him in the $2m range for 2-3yrs.
  13. DET has 3X second round picks (41, 42, 43) Yep. The Nucks really need to get that 2nd round pick back.
  14. I do too, but Pageau has a 16 team no trade clause. Assuming that the Nucks are on his list, maybe the Isles will go do a Cizikis + Romanov for Boeser trade.
  15. Without Myers, the team only has 3 dmen signed to the roster (Huggy, Hronny + Brise). Change is coming.
  16. Cody is such a brave young man who went through a serious, life-threatening illness. It took hockey away from him and almost took his life. His character and personality shine in this interview; especially when he reflects on his resilience and positive but realistic view of his life nowadays.
  17. Sharangovich appears to be a player that would fit well into the Nuck lineup. He took a dip in his stats last season, due to losing his top 6 role to increased competition on a loaded team. It's hard to determine his value in terms of a new contract, or what the Devils would want in return. Here's an interesting link... https://coloradohockeynow.com/2023/06/17/why-yegor-sharangovich-is-the-classic-avalanche-trade-target/ I suspect the Devils will want a promising prospect or pic (at least a high 2nd). My bet is that a deal is made at the draft. They have a great drafting dept and there are some decent looking players in the early 2nd round of the upcoming draft.
  18. This is a unique, but detailed analysis of the 1st round in the draft. A very interesting read! The writer's list will turn people on their heads, as it includes some unknown/barely known names and excludes players that are predicted by other scouts. His analysis of Simishev puts him at the 'out of the park' range; suggesting that he is the only Dman that could eventually be a 1st pairing player. It's a long and interesting read with full of surprises. Thanks to Primo!
  19. Every year there are players (like Garland) that exceed their draft projection by far; just as there are others that never live up to their projected (1st round high ceiling). The law of averages dictates that this is not the norm and the chance of drafting a good player are better in the 1st round. Benson will be picked in the top 10 at the draft, so the chances of him finding success in the NHL are high. If I were picking him, I would expect him to be a top 6 player. Garland (who is underrated by fans) has overachieved his draft ranking by far. Imo, he is a middle 6 player. Still, I think it's ridiculous comparing him to Benson. Benson should be compared to other top 10 picks.
  20. In all fairness, Garland was a 5th round pick, so he's not a good comparison to Benson. I would say that Conor blew his ceiling away in his 1st season with the Nucks. If it weren't for all the chaos in the last season, he very well could have had similar pts. His value would be much higher; although I do think many Nuck fans undervalue him (he is not a camp dump imo). As for Benson, I hear great things about him, but I'd rather they went with another player. If he slips down to the 11oa, I hope they consider checking with AZ, Buff, etc and see if they can make a trade; Seeing as Benson is often listed as 6oa in the mockups, I would think PA make the trade; receiving a 12-14pic + 2nd for the 11oa + 3rd. They probably would end up with one of the players they want, along with an early 2nd rounder. Nucks might miss out on a great player, but if they likely end up with top 6 C or top 4RD along with a prospect with loads of upside in the 2nd round.
  21. He may not realize that OV will be +40yrs old by the time he joins the team.
  22. For sure. And hopefully the anticipated significant increase in the cap will come along before the 2 yrs where the buyout $ is at its worst.
  23. It seems that young Krav really doesn't want to play in the AHL. Whether it's a lack of confidence in the AHL developmental program, lack of confidence in his own abilities to make the NHL, or maybe he thinks he's 'too good for the AHL'. There are probably other reasons as well. I do suspect that the Canucks told him that they wouldn't re-sign him unless he agreed to spend time in Abby. At least they still maintain his rights. In the end, Russia is his home; his family and friends. Pretty much most of his life experience I can understand his preference to develop his game in his homeland. I would think the majority of Russian players go home in the offseason. Some have permanent residency in the US, but I would bet that even those players would like to visit their family and friends at some point during their time away from hockey. It's an unknown future for Russia. These players might be forced into making some extremely difficult decision as some point.
