  1. The Pens are in the dreadful position of not looking like a contender, but not ready to rebuild. This makes them a great trading partner in that sense. Unfortunately, they don't have any great assets and their 1st round pick is in the late teens. Marino is a bit of an unknown around here. I found this article that states that he is a defensive dman with offensive upside. He has size, plays +20mins a game and is a great PKer. Sounds ideal for the Canucks. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/john-marino-canucks-trade-target The rest of the package isn't bad with Kapanen or Bluger + Poulin. I don't know if Pitts adds the 1st. Miller for Marino + Kapanen or Bluger(my preferance) + Poulin would be a decent trade; especially if they add the 1st.
  2. Dickinson has his worst season in 4 years, so there's a good chance his game will improve next season. Hopefully we are beyond the "3rd line C experience" and he can settle in as a LW. In that case he is of value to the team, or a trade.
  3. The Canucks don't need to rebuild or 'tear it down' at this point. What they need to do is start surrounding Hughes, Pettersson and Demko with the right players. There are some holes to be filled and the management also needs to build up the prospect pool. The salary cap is a concern as well. Unfortunately, the management will have to trade one or two very good players in order to do what is necessary to develop the team. This means trading for younger players (and grab prospect/picks when possible) that will take the load of the salary cap. An example is the old Ranger trade: Schneider + Chytil + 1st for Miller, or; Roy + Kupari + 2nd for Boeser. Filling roles while collecting a prospect or pic is ideal. Pearson would be an easy trade, but Dixie and Poolman would likely require a sweetener, which isn't so great. Reducing the salary cap is more difficult. If the Canucks can somehow acquire a (cheaper RD) than Myers (Roy), he could be traded for a prospect or pic. He is truly underrated in this forum, imo he brings back a 3C or 2nd (or a prospect with similar value). Keep in mind, this will be a project that will be ongoing for the next couple of years. I don't expect the Canucks to make the playoffs this year, but they need to get some playoff experience the following season. I would like to see them continue to improve each year. It will be tough to get past the conference final, but that's what should be their goal by year 4. Sure would be some great hockey while getting there though.
  4. I think there is a good chance that Brock will come back in full force. He has many reasons to spend his summer honing his game and working hard in all aspects of training. A short term 'show me' contract would be appropriate, but has some risk as well. If his game doesn't improve, he has less value than what he does at the moment. I would only be happy with a decent value trade for Brock. Something like Roy(RD) + Kapuri(3C-r) + 2nd from the Kings, which would fill 2 very important roles on our team.
  5. Lots of love for the Avs right now. In the upcoming years, Canuck fans will hate them as much as the old Chicago team.
  6. I don't know why they would be invested in Silovs; he's nowhere near a veteran goalie at 21yrs and just 11 AHL games under his belt. If they started tomorrow, Dipi would be the starter and Silovs the backup. The will likely bring in another goalie over the offseason.
  7. Ok. A signed Boeser to LA Roy, Kupari(C-r) + 2nd to Van.
  8. When they were making a run for the playoffs; Bo upped his game dramatically and was a team leader until he was injured. 31 goals in 70 games is more than a 2nd C. What an insulting thing to say. The last time Bo played an 82 game season, he scored 61pts at 23yrs old. After that the pandemic hit and his numbers dropped accordingly. Miller's numbers before the Vancouver trade, were similar to Bo's, but he was playing 82 games. It wasn't until he started playing on the 1st line with Pete and Brock that he started putting up the stats. I'm not saying that Bo will ever reach Miller's status, but I do think that he will improve his game in the next couple of years; especially if the team upgrades the 2nd line (or the young guys improve). His stats will easily be 1st line. I have no doubt that a player like Pete (smart, determined and highly skilled) will develop his face off skills to a high level and continue his progression in becoming a top C in the league. This leaves Bo as the more than capable 2C; with a much lower contract than Miller. I love Miller and would rather not see him traded. The problem is that his contract will be too much $ and term. He will also get a greater return on a trade than Bo.
  9. Had a few good years, but was always great in the playoffs. Don't think anyone will miss him; especially the coaches
  10. Nice to see the comeback game from TBL. Really didn't want to see an attempted sweep by the Avs. Stanley Cup finals should not be won by a sweep. Take it to 6 anyways...or 7.
  11. Podz performance in the playoffs was superior as well.
  12. Probably not. Kaprizov and Panarin were 22yrs old when they had ++points.
  13. I doubt this guy becomes the #1LW; more likely #2LW. I would think it would be Pearson that is traded. Garland and Brock are both RWs, so that's a different matter.
  14. Which teams have never won the Stanley Cup? 1. Arizona Coyotes 2. Buffalo Sabres 3. Columbus Blue Jackets 4. Florida Panthers 5. Minnesota Wild 6. Nashville Predators 7. Ottawa Senators 8. San Jose Sharks 9. Vancouver Canucks 10. Vegas Golden Knights 11. Winnipeg Jets We all know the big losers on this list. After 52 years, the only thing that changes is the list gets shorter. I wouldn't call Canuck fans impatient. They still support the team year after year.
  15. Pete is 'potentially' a #1 center, but until he can stand on his own, without having someone taking face offs for him, he can't be considered a true C. Pete sharing a line with Miller, immediately reduces the team to 2 top 6 Cs, with Bo as the #2. The team is still in need of a #3C.
  16. I agree with what you are saying about Copp. The only problem, is that he will likely get a huge raise, due to his play in NY + playoffs. He will be too expensive for a 3rd liner. Still, I think he could play alongside Pete and help out with the C duties. Pete is the kind of player that will help elevate a partner's game.
  17. Montreal's a great city, but the Quebec taxes are probably the worst in Canada. Guess the Canadiens weren't on his 10 team no trade list (or maybe he doesn't know about the Quebec taxes).
  18. Wonder which players will become his whipping boys? I'm thinking Tippitt or Cam York (the underachievers) or possibly Ristolainene (Mr. Inconsistent). What a journey they have ahead of them. I foresee the usual short term gain for long term migraine.
  19. I doubt they care that much. It's not like they would have hung onto him (for 8yrs) until he finally performs like a 10th overall pick. They gave him more than enough of a chance.
  20. He's very underrated around here. A team like the Coyotes or Kraken (who are in desperate need of a 2nd RD) would take him in a flash. His hulking physique and minute munching delivery would be perfect for these 2 teams (as well as the 2yr term). I think he gets a 2nd (another team's pic) or a decent 3rd liner (Geekie).
  21. Not comparable at all; Gaudreau is a top sniper in the NHL, while Miller is a mid/later top 1C/LW in the NHL. JT had never played on a 1st line (other than his short stint with Stamkos -18games/19pts) unitl he joined the Canucks. During his 3 seasons in Van, he played 202games with 215pts + 137PIMs. He may not ever reach the stats from last season, but I think it's fair to say he's a pt a game player. He also brings a number of other skills, as we all have seen. Best of all, is he is a clutch player that can lead his team to perform better during important games. Imo, he does not have the same $ value as Gaudreau, but he brings a lot more to his game (and team). I think he is in the $8m range, but I don't know if teams will give him more than 6yrs term. I don't understand why the Devils would want Gaudreau at this point. Scoring is hardly an issue for them, but adding a hefty top 6 F (RW) with leadership and NHL experience would sure help their young top 6. Acquiring a player like Crouse would fit the bill. At that price, they could pick up a guy like Donato or a Nick Paul type. They will be losing Subban, so they should also beef up their defense. They must replace Subban's toughness. The Devils are still loaded with assets; both prospects and tradable players, as well as the 2OA pick in the draft. They also have the salary cap to upgrade however they want, as long as they are mindful of the upcoming RFAs that will require big contracts in the near future. I am so jealous of the Devils fans, but I do like that team. I would be very disappointed if they signed Johnny Hockey (at $10m) as the major improvement to their team. They need players with a different skill set.
  22. Interesting story with him. He was terrible in the KHL; spent most of his time in the Russian Jr league. Spent a year in the Q and started looking good (as an overager). Finally, made the TBL lineup (at 20yrs) and showed very little in offence. The following 2 years, he stated to take off and since then he has become a way beyond pt per game superstar. And what a beast in the playoffs! Championship teams find players like this in the 2nd round.
