  1. Garland- RW: buying out Conor is a waste of $. Sure you get the $4.1 in the 1st 2 yrs and $3.1 in the 3rd year, but there is still $1.88 to be paid out in the remaining 3yrs. It would be better to retain $1mx3yrs in a trade and still benefit from the $3.950 cap relief for the remainder of his contract. Garland would be a solid veteran presence on a young team (could see him thriving in a leadership role) and could very likely be a regular 20g scorer throughout the remainder of his contract. Not bad for a $4m a yr player. Ideally, a trade with the Sharks for Sturm (2mx2) who could man the 3C role until Raty or draft pic are ready to fill it. Boeser- RW: Seems a lot of folks are on the 'Brock is going to be a beast in the coming season' train. I hope they are right; otherwise he is definitely a $ retention in a trade or a buyout. Beau- LW/RW: I like his speed and offence, but he is due to be a UFA after the coming season. He is a tradable asset, but is he worth a new contract with ++$ and term? Garland and Boeser will require retention in a trade (Conor's around $1mx3 and Brock's $1.65-$2mx2yr). I suspect Garland will be traded during the offseason and the management will wait and see how Brock is doing in November. Beau will be traded before 2024 TDL.
  2. I don't see Glass as a 1C and I would be holding my breath for him to claim the 2C role. The Canucks need a much more physical player that is certain to rise up to the 2C spot at some point. Ratu may be that player, but he is still very young and it might take another year (or 2) before he takes on the 3C job for the Nucks. This year's ranking is all over the place after the top 5, so it's difficult to predict the best player at 11oa. The management team will have to determine whether to: take the pick; trade the 11oa for a later 1st and 2nd: or trade for a young roster player ie: Krebs to Canucks - 11oa + LW prospect. Buffalo ends up with the 11oa + 13oa (they also have 2nds), so they can keep the picks or create a trade with a return that improves their team right away.
  3. Although Demko's a great goalie, I still question his durability. Hopefully Martin has a solid start and is able to retain his career as an NHL backup. This would be the best scenario, as Demko won't have to get into the more intense situation(s) of multiple games without breaks. It also gives more time for Silovs to develop. The timing for Silovs to take on the backup role and then develop into the starter is looking very good.
  4. Elite teams get past the 1st round of playoff games. They need their (Laff and Kakko) high draft picks if they want to move into the elite level.
  5. It was a low risk chance that Krav would put his game together, but it didn't work out. Not sure whose decision decision it was to leave the Nucks, but I suspect the management told him that he needed some time in the AHL. I also suspect that young Vitali has great hockey talent, but doesn't like to put in the hard work required.
  6. I don't think peeps have a sense of what a player like Veleno brings to the game (at only 23yrs old). "There is so much to like about Joe Veleno. He's a hard-nosed workhorse that makes the players around him better. The fleet-footed center is unselfish and will primarily look to make a play at top speed; however, when the chance arises to put it in the pot himself, he will capitalize. He sees the ice well and is rarely caught out of position. His defensive game is refined and he actively pursues puck control. Transitioning to offence is natural, smooth, and quick. All-in-all, a well-rounded two-way forward that skates well and can be the catalyst a team needs to turn a game in its favor. If he can find the consistency in refusing to let himself get taken out of plays, especially if he doesn't start them, he will thrive and exceed expectations. (Curtis Joe, EP 2017)" This is exactly the kind of player the Canucks so badly need, although I'm not so sure the Wings would want to let go of.
  7. I know the competition is not the same as the NHL, but I still think Garland could easily become a 20g scorer for the Canucks (or more than likely, another team). He had 22g season in Phoenix and had 19g last year. Considering the Nucks' recent season had such a bad start, I assume he would have put up more than 17g; maybe hit 20g, as he played more games than in the past. Imo, Nuck fans undervalue both these players. His determination and 'no quit' attitude would be great for a young team. He could very well become a veteran leader that puts up 50ish pts regularly. I think Connor would relish the role, which would have a huge effect on his game. I don't see him as a 'cap dump' at all.
  8. Button's latest list. He loves ASP(5oa), but Reinbacher isn't in his top 20. Calum Ritchie is now at 13oa (right shot C who has been climbing the draft for some time now). https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/draftcentre/craig-s-list-after-impressive-u18-showing-axel-sandin-pellikka-moves-into-top-5-1.1960662
  9. How does a player end up with a -41? I know CBJ are a bad team, but Peeke has the worst +/- on the team. Even Guddy had a better stat at -24.
  10. Hronik is a more physical and offensively inclined dman than Marino. From what I've read, his defensive game has improved quite a bit over the last year; which can't be easy playing on the Red Wings. He is the best RD on our team and could be a very good partner for Hughes; but if he can help OEL retrieve his game, he would be of more value. Also, he will fix the ridiculous toi for Hughes and has a great shot for the PP. Unfortunately, his next contract will be way beyond Marino's terrific contract. If he can be the player I think he can, then it's all good If not...
  11. My dream come true would be Richie and Strbak. PA gets that done, I forgive the team not tanking enough to stay in the top 8.
  12. The Sharks best RW is nowhere near as good as our available righties. In exchange, they have Nico Strum, who is a vet with 2 years left on his 2m contract. Nucks gain cap $ and a player that can fill in until Raty is ready to take over. I can't see a better trade for the Canucks'
  13. Probably can't. I don't like either team, but it would be hilarious. I doubt that anyone south of the border would be watching the SC final.
  14. Experience matters more. Those kids have had their 1st taste of playoffs. This is just the begining of another NHL franchise team. Like that young Blackhawks team we all remember well.
  15. I think you guys are undervaluing Laf if you think he could be had for an 11oa pick. He's scoring at .5per game and plays a physical game. He's a year younger than Podz and is putting up much better stats. He was rushed by the Rangers, but is trending upward. They would rather move Kakko (also a year older) who is not showing any physical aspect in his game. He's giving me that Puljujarvi/Kapanen vibe. Rangers don't even look at trading Laf unless Podz is included with the 11th.
  16. Time has flown by for all of us Alf. Tanev is 3yrs older than Mayfield and is nowhere near as difficult to play against (83 PIMs). Chris also has a M-NTC with 10 teams on the list and I'll bet one of them is the Canucks. The Flames would probably not trade him to Vancouver anyway. He would be a good acquisition, but I think that day is gone. Mayfield, Schenn and Burroughs would kill the opposition.
  17. I hope the management signs a seasoned vet that could get the job done backing up Quinn. Scott Mayfield looks ideal for the role. Islanders won't be able to re-sign him (thx Bo); he will be upping his $, as his game has gotten so much better over time. He'll be 31yrs in the fall, so maybe 3-3.5mX4yrs would do it. The Nucks will likely pick up an RD at the draft, who may be ready to join the team by the time Scott's contract ends. Forget about Bear (he wants too much) and find a home for Myers in the fall (even with some retention). Hughes Mayfield 3-3.5mx4yrs OEL Hronek Wolanin Schenn 2mx2yr Brise Burroughs /Juulssen
  18. Of course you would take Pasta or McAvoy, but how do you fit the extra $20.75m salary cap on our team. Debrusk + Zacha had a career year while playing on the 2nd line with Krejci. Normally with points in the early 40's for Debrusk and mid 30s for Zacka; playing alongside Krejci boasted their #s remarkably. Garland, Beau, Boeser have all put up similar points in recent years. Zacha + Debrusk have less cap, but that's all part of playing for Boston, but you can bet that their stats fall to the 35-40pt range when Krejci retires.
  19. Pastrnak + McAvoy are too much $$$$. Nucks already have Zacka LW and LW Debrusk types. Frederic is the type of player our team sorely lacks.
  20. The Bruins went 'all in' and lost the bet astoundingly. At this point, they need to rebuild, but knowing Boston, they will try to 'build on the fly'. They have quite a few UFA spots to fill, have few high pics in the next couple of years and their prospect pool is rather grim looking. As a Nuck fan, the only player on their team that I would want is Trent Frederic.
  21. Of course every player is available for the right price, which usually is an overpayment. I'm sure there are a few teams that realize the mistake they made by not making a trade for JT. On the Canucks, he is one of the few line drivers, can put up points with wingers that are struggling or don't belong in the top 6, plays physical, plays with passion and is just the kind of player in big demand on a playoff team. He had a slump in the 1st half of the season, but is now playing the game style that the team needs the most. Trading Miller for Carlo, who was terrible in the playoffs and Zacha, who plays LW; not C, does not improve our team. If the Canucks are ever going to be a contender, they will need a player like JT and that is why any trade return has to be an overpayment. Team needs: temporary 3C.... trade one of the 3RWs for Nico Strom (2mx2) " RD....sign (1 of) UFA Scott Mayfield, Shattenkirk, Gudas, Schenn (?x 2)
