Hockey Canada drops age group names
RonMexico replied to goalie13's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Why do you need clarity outside of Minor Hockey though? -
He's 33. Not everyone plays forever.
-
They'll just turn the segment into some crappy round table discussion that ignores the Canucks, unless they are the game currently being televised.

3rd in division and 3 points out of first with a game in hand on 1st. Positive goal differential. winning record at home. .500 on the road. What's not to like so far?

Jason Garrison sues Vancouver based financial advisor
RonMexico replied to canuckspride's topic in General Hockey Discussion
A fool and his money are soon parted. -
I bet it's awful. Except for the excess booze and available women part.

This person's posture is disturbing

I'm more curious who this John is.

Stars to retire Sergei Zubov's No. 56
RonMexico replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Guy was smoking darts during intermissions and was still a top end defenceman. -
Could Demko replace Markstrom as #1 before season's end?
RonMexico replied to Mortalis's topic in Canucks Talk
Well I hope we can create a goalie controversy and trade one for a Horvat type like the last time! -

RonMexico replied to Ossi Vaananen's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
no shock that they all cleared. -
Humboldt Broncos Involved in Bus Crash
RonMexico replied to RUPERTKBD's topic in General Hockey Discussion
No way should our health care system pay for experimental medical procedures performed in other countries - successful or not. I get it, this story tugged at many people's heartstrings but by our health care system paying for it, it opens up to paying for all sorts of quackery performed in other countries. You can't discriminate against one procedure over another. Our health care system can simply not afford to fund these procedures that have possible unknown outcomes. The red tape would be staggering deciding which procedures would be covered and the incurred liability if something goes wrong. -
[Waivers] Marincin, Petan, and Jurco
RonMexico replied to Ossi Vaananen's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wasn't Petan already waived once this year? Just another ballyhooed prospect flaming out. Steer clear JB. -
Cocaine has been around athletes since forever. I recall Paul Molitor saying that in his early days with the Brewers, there was hardly a game where he didn't rip a few rails just before suiting up.

NHL players vote 3 worst road cities
RonMexico replied to Alflives's topic in General Hockey Discussion
But do the people that live in any of those cities actually do the plethora of 'things' that there are allegedly more of to do? Generally speaking, most people who have a family have little time outside of their day to day activities (work, kids, sports/activities, meal/bath/bed) to actually enjoy their surroundings. Basically you only have a few hours after work and the weekends and often times we're tied to household chores, projects, etc. While it's great to have access to more 'things', making the time to enjoy them on a regular basis is daunting. It was only when I was younger and single/dating did I really get to enjoy the city I lived in to its fullest extent. Getting out of the house on a Saturday by 10am with 2 kids under 3 feels like a miracle occurred. -
Yes but that's how it works. You draft high when you suck and hopefully you get the Sedins instead of Patrick Stefan. etc etc
-
Absolutely. However, fans seem to think players that have been bargains in the past somehow deserve these contracts for being underpaid in previous years a la Burrows.

Why not select a rebuild that has actually won it all? All toronto and colorado have done is suck forever and rebuilt through lotto luck. Neither have anything much to show for it other than promise....and in the Leafs case, a maxed salary cap already.

Elizabeth May Resigns as Green Party Leader
RonMexico replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
JWR and Philpott both said nay to the Green Party after the meeting with May. -
I played Be a GM mode in NHL 10 so I know how to do Benning's job better than him. I know exactly what a GM does and I can fleece every AI GM. AI is no different than talking to a real person right?

Disagree on this point. You learn on the job as AGM. Then when you take over, you already know all the ins and outs. Granted his mentor was clearly suspect but you don't fall backwards into a Cup. I do agree that learning by doing is a fundamental aspect of human activity but in this case, I think doesn't 100% apply. There are a few things you will learn on your own but by and large you gotta have a really good idea if you were an AGM first. To my eyes, I saw a team in disarray and he tried to plug the holes of a sinking ship. Sure there were more misses than hits in the early going but that's par for the course in this business.
