How is that a problem?
He can go to Utica, light it up and be the first call up when the inevitable injury happens. Once he's up, he can assert himself and make management decide then.
But management said years ago that you have to earn your spot.
Contract implications, past performance, etc. means nothing when you've had a pedestrian preseason!
Who said it's easy? We had to handle all that as well. I'll spare the details but it was not easy. Yes I had a job to go to, but that was the only silver lining.
Just because you grew up in a city, doesn't mean you need to live there.
I moved away from the GVA where I lived for half of my life. Partially by choice but not really. When your wife is 8 months pregnant and your employer closes your branch down and offers you the same job but in the neighbouring province and you have 2 days to say yes or no, it's not exactly what I call a choice. But the move actually gave me a raise and allowed me to purchase a modest house with a big yard for less than the price of the condo we owned and sold in New Westminster. Something I would have never owned had we stayed.
You have options that aren't overly exaggerated ones you list above.
Seems logical given that both are found dead at the same place. Despair from being on the run, hungry, bugs feasting on you, seeing/hearing helicopters all around you - would lead to wanting to end it all.
So easy to blame the coach or the system or whatever...but never the player. This the top level of hockey in the world. Not everyone is going to make it. While he may have all the skills and talent in the world, if he can't apply it, then he's just another player who can't cut the mustard at the pro level. Coming to Vancouver was his change of scenery from SJ. This training camp is pretty much his last kick at the can to be a somebody. It's all up to him to decide.
It's 30 years old, it's time to mothball it and build a new one. Saddledome is 37 years old and is finally getting replaced which is far overdue. The only issue is who foots the bill every time a new stadium is proposed.
At some point if there are no concrete sightings, they have to assume they died or have gone into deep hiding.
This reminds me of this story from the town I grew up in. I actually knew this guy from my time in a local martial arts club. Knew him in terms of he was in the club but knew nothing about him outside of that. I did however know all the guys killed and injured.

Well if it was them in spotted at the dump, they likely followed the power lines to get to York Landing area. That was a big trek through barren wilderness.
Every watched Alone on History Channel? Even the most trained survivalists bail out after a few days...and these folks were decently prepared. But throw them into an unknown region and they crumble from starvation if they weren't sufficiently fattened up beforehand. These two dudes were about as fat as a pencil crayon. Despite their best efforts to evade capture, lack of food and water will either kill them or force them into public again.
Still two skinny video game nerds who have been spotted and stopped multiple times have evaded capture in some of the most unforgiving, predator laden wilderness. The mosquitoes would have made me turn the gun on myself by now.
I hope that out of this comes a realization that our children need love and nurturing more than they probably get. As a young parent, whenever I go to the park I see most parents sitting there on a park bench ignoring their kids because they are busy on their devices instead. Not that I am 100% not guilty of this, but it really bothers me when I see kids craving attention from their parents but their too busy on the internet or whatever. Give your kids the attention they deserve!
