  1. But they have super executive Ken Holland on the job!
  2. Oh no we can't sign Boeser now!!! It's over! They will find a way.
  3. Instead of moving down, imagine we moved up in the draft lottery like Chicago has when they really needed it.
  4. Baertschi, Gudbranson, Goldobin, Pearson, Pouliot, Schenn, Miller were all 1st rounders who Benning gets constantly slagged for acquiring as they were 'other team's garbage'.
  5. He spent long enough there to know that him scoring 30 wasn't in the realm of possibility. It just proves you can't plug any loser beside a superstar and expect production.
  6. Imagine Benning traded away all our first round picks??
  7. They gave up on Forsling too. He was supposed to be the next big thing according to Canucks fans!
  8. What good would that kind of trade do for the team now though? This team has moved past the accumulation phase even if it didn't accumulate enough for the traditional rebuild fans. It's a fair argument but it's not the only way to build a team. I am not saying they did it the 'right way' either. They just picked a way. Personally I don't care how you get from A to B, as long as you get there. This team is going in a positive direction. I'm not interested in abandoning the plan and starting over but if that's what ends up happening in the near future, my allegiance to the Canuck flag will not change.
  9. JT Miller seems to fit the bill. Maybe we just acquired one rather than developed one. It is a pigeon hole that's for sure. It probably does have something to do with growing into your body but still I think it's a myth more than anything as there have only really been a few players to really fit the mold over the span of time.
  10. People always say 'power forwards take longer to develop'. What does that even mean? It seems more like a convenient excuse used to put up with lack of development into a good player. Is there a blue print I haven't seen that says how long it takes? A checklist is necessary skills or feats to qualify one as a PWF? If you played a PWF role in Jr, why is the transition to the NHL so difficult? After being drafted do you just forget how to play like you have the past few years and need relearn your PWF game? The only plausible reason I can come up with is, they aren't any good when they face professional competition. When you are the top dog at every level and then you hit the pros and now there are half a dozen guys just like you, your confidence dwindles and your skills suffer.
  11. It wasn't long ago that everyone was worshipping at the altar of Chevaldayoff. Praising him for patience and letting his roster develop. Now where are they? 7 years of doing very little waiting for development, 2 years of flame out playoffs and now cap misery. Canucks fans take heed.
  12. Non-guaranteed contracts like the NFL. Take all your money in a signing bonus and have a low yearly salary. The team can cut you any time after. NHLPA will never go for this because it favours owners....but it's the owners assuming all the financial risk so they should be able to have more flexibility.
  13. Getzlaf and Perry played one season each in the minors and won a SC in their 2nd season. There is no magic formula for predicting success with prospects. Some take no time. Some take longer and others never make it even with years of seasoning in the minors. And yes some teams are worse at developing them than others too. From the moves Management is making, they believe now is the time to move into contention. You don't have to like the direction, but I'd rather see them strike now than wait a few more years only to find out the current cast of players can't cut it.
  14. Yep! Some random hockey blogger cherry picking analytic stats to back a narrative. Good for him for getting a writing gig with SN but his articles are nothing special.
  15. It's Dan Durazio. It's a now infamous quote about yes Dean Valli.
  16. Easier said than done as the guy can't stay healthy. Perhaps he looks better this year with Myers and Benn eating up some of his minutes helping him stay off the IR. If he stays healthy, then peddle him immediately before his value erodes further. Unfortunately, I think he hangs around like Edler and this team will never get any value for him other than years of service.
  17. You are right it's no guarantee. But when you are near the bottom, there is more room to improve than say a team like SJ who lost some significant assets yet still has an expectation to compete.
  18. Edmonton, Calgary and SJ did nothing in free agency except for some minor signings. It's never safe to assume any team repeats their previous season's success. So much trivialization of what the Canucks do.
  19. Wait why would he move to Minnesota?? From Vancouver? Don't players want to play in beautiful cities with good weather?
