  1. If you thought I alluded to him doing a better job than AA, that wasn't what I meant. But right now I do have confidence that he will be able to rebuild the farm because this appears to be the strong part of his resume and he is basically starting from scratch. I understand the worry that the new guy will rock the boat, but I am taking the optimistic route that he won't do anything to upset the apple cart too much.
  2. Worried about what? That he might rebuild a gutted farm system? Much like the Canucks when Benning took over, there are a few decent prospects around but realistically, the Jays have no depth in the minors and likely will rank in the bottom 5 of prospect depth in the league. Granted, I am happy with the playoff run and how AA acquired the pieces that were needed, but sacrifices were made. Unfortunately, this leaves significant gaps in the system which need filling. I am hoping that this core gets held together for another 2 years or more so they have a chance to repeat their success and in the mean time, try to rebuild some minor league depth. I know it's asking for the same thing the Canucks are doing right now but with multiple levels of minors, I think in baseball it can actually be accomplished.
  3. Why are you worried about the budget at all? The 'salary cap' in baseball is not a hurdle. You can spend 500 million in salaries if you wanted. You just pay a luxury tax back to the league. Luxury TaxTechnically called the “Competitive Balance Tax”, the Luxury Tax is the punishment that large market teams get for spending too much money. While MLB does not have a set salary cap, the luxury tax charges teams with high payrolls a considerable amount of money, giving teams ample reason to want to keep their payrolls below that level. The luxury tax remained relatively unchanged in the new CBA. The threshold level for the luxury tax will be $178 million in both 2012 and 2013 (the same as it was in 2011), and will be raised to $189 million from 2014-2016. And offenders will be charged the following tax rates, depending on how many years in a row they have been above the threshold: First time: 17.5% Second time: 30% Third time: 40% Fourth time and higher: 50% Any team that drops below the threshold will reset their luxury tax rate, dropping them back down to the first time rate (17.5%) if they should happen to go over the threshold again in the future. Money raised through the luxury tax is set aside for industry development — not revenue sharing, as is commonly thought. It is distributed as such: the first $2.5 million is reserved for potential refunds, and then 75% is given to fund player benefits and 25% goes to the Industry Growth Fund (Biz of Baseball).
  4. Tulo has 30 HR power which premium production from a SS. I don't get why people think he, or anyone else under contract, should be traded. Yes the cupboard seems a little bare after loading up for this recent run but there is no need to sell off the vets while the team can easily still be in playoff contention come next season.
  5. You are out to lunch if you think that one link to some joker in a CNN article is evidence of anything.
  6. I am too lazy to look this up. Provide us with relevant examples of how humans can turn off the rain, turn up the sun, stop wind, etc etc.
  7. Teams complain. It's common. It was only yesterday when Tulo was tossed for complaining about balls and strikes. Bautista has complaining loudly about the same thing too.
  8. Really? I like hockey but it's playoff baseball with the BJs vs early regular season NHL. Just DVR the hockey game and start it when the ball game is over.
  9. They have to adjust to the conditions. I get it. You are upset cuz you think they are getting shafted but this is how baseball always is. Umping has a human element and the players know that not all umps call the game the same. The calls on the field, that's another story.
  10. Can't blame the umps when the heart of your order just simply failed to show up when needed. 0 fers all through the lineup.
  11. Man I wish the Jays acquired the Tulo that could rake it. This Tulo is an impostor.
  12. I know most people do not follow the C's all that much but some of the guys playing for the Jays right now spent time on the C's....including Pillar, Stroman, Osuna and Pompey. Those of us that attend some games get to see the future Jays so to me, it's not just Toronto's team.
  13. No. I don't over react to one loss like it's over. Just look at your comments. Should have done this, should have done that. Look at bobo just before you criticizing management. Take a step back and just enjoy the fact that there is playoff baseball with a Canadian team in it to cheer for. And spare me the passionate fan crap. Passionate fans cheer for their team come hell or high water and rarely criticize it.
  14. Why are Vancouver based fans so manic depressive? Doesn't matter what sport, same reactions.
  15. I'm not surprised. This market overrates sliced bread.
  16. Good thing there is going to be no 1 run games to worry about...Blue Jays just gotta keep mashing!
  17. But they're ruining his career!!!! He didn't make it when he was 21, it's over!!!!
  18. The other players should be deferring to Pillar if he thinks he can get it.
  19. For the same reason Adam Dunn, who used to hit 40 HRs, get 100 RBIs, bat <.250 and strike out 200+ times like clockwork every season was never the MVP.
  20. And RISP is one of the basics really. You should open the encyclopedia called advanced stats! BABIP, UZR, WAR, wRC+, O-swing%, Z-swing%, FIP, xFIp, etc etc! It's enough to make you lose your mind.
  21. I like the HHOF. I recommend it to any hockey fan who goes to TO.
  22. Soooo you're saying that the Jays can Stroman for Kershaw like they traded Lawrie for Donaldson? Sounds good to me!
  23. The best thing the team can do right now is have a short term memory. Looking forward to Stroman's start tonight.
  24. Uh oh for Hawaii too...the coastal regions are very populated.
