  1. Just like Bieska, Burrows time on this team should be over soon. While he is an effective 34 year old player, this team doesn't really need him anymore.
  2. It's time to stick a fork in Lulay. I don't forget his great work with this team but I think Father Time is catching up to him. This team needs a new young QB to groom.
  3. Detroit Lions were 4-0 in the preseason before the went 0-16 in the regular season. Which leads to the commonly used phrase, the preseason means nothing.
  4. This pleases me because there was no evidence.
  5. On the flip side though, in the NFL, your season is over if you lost the first 5 games. As a fan, why cheer for a team that is a dog when at 0-5 in the CFL, you still could have a chance to win the whole thing. It's about perspective I suppose. I don't think it cheapens the experience...afterall, you still get 7-9 teams in the playoffs in the NFL from time to time.
  6. It's not surprising. Even at a regular 4-way stop, stopping appears to be optional.
  7. Good thing I was luck enough to have power all weekend or I might have missed my fantasy football draft! Then I would be demanding BC Hydro paid my league entry fee for my auto-drafted team.
  8. There is some merit to the idea of stressful innings vs non-stressful innings but like all arguments, there is two sides. Perhaps the reason is owners want to protect their assets but arm injuries, specifically ULC tears, haven't come down since pitch counts have been more scrutinized. My personal opinion is that over-training and the science diet fed to athletes has produced weaker athletes. I have zero written evidence of this on my own but it makes sense to me. Pro athletes spend their whole summer training at a high level and never really get any significant rest. As many of you will know, if you work hard all the time, you eventually break down. On top of that, if you are eating a diet conducive to your training goal, you can bet it's a bunch of shakes, supplements, etc aka the Science Diet with all kinds of crazy rules like you have to eat this at 1pm exactly or no eating this or that once the sun goes down etc etc. While hard training and a supplemented diet will produce physical specimens, it certainly hasn't cut down on injury frequency. Again all just observation and musing but I certainly think there is more to it than uh oh, i'm at 100 pitches, pull me coach or my arm will fall off tomorrow.
  9. I would prefer they left starters in longer. Today was a case where the pulled Estrada mostly because he hit the 100 pitch mark. I know it is only one more inning but I want to see our starters go 7, Sanchez for the 8th and Osuna for the 9th and try to stick to that. I know it is the 90s way but Estrada was pitching well and to pull him for pitch count reasons only to have the pen blow it kinda sucks.
  10. I was at the game last night. The score flattered the Lions. The run defence seemed like they wouldn't even be able to stop me if I was playing. The offensive line isn't any better. Lulay looks under pressure every down. WRs aren't getting open. The only bright spot is Harris but he can't carry the team. The offence just looks so badly out of sync that I don't think any help from the NFL will make a difference. I am all for starting Beck just to see something different. And I do think that the attendance last night was a lie. The dome was empty. They may have sold the seats, but less and less people are attending. The only good side effect, walk up beer service.
  11. I personally like the CFL game. The best part is the last 3 minutes when the lead can change hands unlike the NFL that once the two minute warning hits, 1 first down gained by the team ahead on the scroeboard essentially renders the game over. Which is incredibly lame and SLOW.
  12. The CFL has rules against too many import players. The idea is that they offer spots to Canadian born players and not just be the B-League for the NFL rejects. Each team may dress a 44-man active roster consisting of: 3 QBs (no designation) Maximum of 20 international players (4 of which must be identifed as designated internationals) Minimum of 21 national players The four designated international players are players who can play on special teams OR replace an international starter (they cannot start). Of the 24 starters on a team, a minimum of seven starters will be nationals players. When applied to a starting roster of a team it breaks down as follows (when using the minimum number of national players): 1 QB 16 international players 7 starting national players The following Players shall be classified as National Players (formerly non-import): A: Canadian citizens at the time of signing of the Player’s first contract; B: A Player classified as a non-import prior to May 31st, 2014; OR C: A Player who was physically resident in Canada for an aggregate period of five (5) years prior to attaining the age of eighteen (18) years. A Player is classified as an International Player (formerly import) if the Player is one other than one referred to in the definition of a National Player (formerly non-import).
  13. It wasn't. They removed 60% of it. The problem is a bone bruise on the top of his tibia couldn't heal because the bruise kept reforming due to contact with the bottom of the femur. The lack of blood flow to the cartilage around the knee also means slow recovery.
  14. Great to have Morales sign an extension and is committed to the team and fans. Very refreshing comments in his open letter.
  15. For sure I knew the reasoning when I typed it. It's actually not uncommon across the league.
  16. That was a depressing game and I do think they got a little jobbed by the reffing but bottom line is, a 2 goal lead in soccer is easily defended by good teams. The Caps need to have a short memory and forget this letdown.
  17. Hutch got demoted today. I get the reasoning but it's weird to a see a pticher with a 12-2 record (yes I know his peripherals tell a different story) get demoted. I assume he will be back shortly.
  18. I am surprised that more people don't know about the subtleties of the game.
  19. The center fielder is the general of the OF. Most times, the corner OFs will defer to the CF if the CF thinks he can get to it.
  20. I know, two innings not even in the books yet and it's been an hour.
  21. And then Dickey served it up in the top of the next inning. Always a killer when your team spots you a 3 run lead and it vanishes almost instantly.
  22. What's with the guarded optimism about the Caps?? They are a team on the rise and we all need to get on board and support them. We are seeing a team of young players developing together thanks to the right mix of vets, a deep bench and great coaching. Who really cares if they are a few pieces away or lacking a top striker. In the current winning environment, this team may develop the players it needs organically. My only fear is that as this group keeps improving, that the Caps lose their top players to European clubs who can wave $$$$ under their noses that the MLS can't compete with.
  23. Hopefully he has good chemistry with Waston as they have played together. Though isn't the back end crowded as is? Good news for Hurtado as long as he gets playing time there to aid his development.
