  1. My wife (who played fastpitch her whole life) says any OF who comes in and overplays the ball and has it go over their head should find themselves on the bench in short order. The idea being catch the ball or keep it in front of you which is something they teach you at an early age. I don't doubt Pillar's fielding ability but at the rate he makes circus catches means he also overplays some of them.
  2. My other concern is that if Rogers hires Beane and give him a smaller budget, we can kiss our best players good bye. This team has finally got a roster of players that can compete and fans are buying in. I fear that a guy like Beane comes in and dismantles it.
  3. Oh I know the situation in Oakland and that he needed to adapt or be out of a job. Is there really any secrets left about Moneyball that gives Beane a competitive advantage? Surely by now, everyone is using sabremetrics, age, projected usefulness left to some degree when evaluating talent.
  4. I don't like the Moneyball strategy. It's a bad strategy for fans too. Once a player achieves too much success, he is traded.
  5. You want to know how to make the bullpen more useful? Stop using them so much. The managers are too quick to pull the starters. It wasn't long ago when it was starter for 7, setup guy in the 8th and closer in the 9th. Instead we are subject to multiple relievers coming in for one batter or some situation like that and are left with a game grinding to a halt at the end.
  6. I wonder who plays when they have inter-league games and they have no DH? I assume E5 at least starts most games.
  7. Sometimes teams suck and the Lions are sucking right now. However, the Lions also went 0-6 once and won the Grey Cup that season. Such is life in a small league. *NFL/CFL gripe removed*
  8. Yep. The deadline was 1pm PST I believe. The waiver trade deadline is August 31st. A team can still make trades after August 31st but the players are ineligible to play in the playoffs which makes complete sense.
  9. Well now any trades are waiver trades. Not sure what E5 makes but it might be enough for him to pass through waivers. That said, getting more pitching for the sake of it isn't necessary. The addition of Price, Tulo, Revere and Lowe has already had a positive effect on the team according to their twitter activity.
  10. It sure was great to watch a game without the obvious flopping that most games are subject too. I know it was a friendly with nothing on the line but still kinda refreshing when you take out the fake injuries. That goal from Kane was a beauty.
  11. Is the closer position really a necessity anymore? Does anyone even strive to be one? Nowadays if you are a young closer and have a bad stretch, they just replace you.
  12. I think so many people are afraid of making trades like Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew for Lee Stevens and 3 prospects named Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, and Brandon Phillips. Because trades like this, fans fear trading prospects for what they may become. In baseball, I am all for trading prospects for stars. I will take 3-5 years of all star production now instead of waiting 3-5 years for a prospect to make his debut and may another 2 before he makes a significant impact. In the end if these guys dont work out, you do the same thing, flip them for new prospects. The Jays rarely seem to be able to trade for high end prospects for whatever reason so that always scares me.
  13. Price better friggin stay or this is obviously a terrible deal.
  14. He's not allowed to be disappointed that his friend was traded? What he is saying is true. Tulo is awesome but if Reyes+ got them a all star SS, surely Reyes+ could have netted an all-star starting pitcher? The Jays are a better team right now with Tulo. Plus there is still time to get an arm or two.
  15. They played a really good game. Nice to see Rosales score too. I know it was against a weaker team but they needed a big win. Manneh looked dangerous. Dean was impressive. Still have Tiebert and Morales working back into the lineup. It's an exciting year for the Caps.
  16. #BlueJays remain in active discussions with #WhiteSox about Jeff Samardzija.@FOXSports — Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) July 24, 2015 Oh man I hope they give up nothing for him. He is on an expiring contract. If AA gives up anything good for him and he has no intention of signing an extension, the pitch forks will come out.
  17. Remember that Michael Saunders will be back in August too which gives them another bat in case they make a trade that involves a current roster player. Though counting on anything from him this season may be asking too much.
  18. Stewart cracked me up every time they interviewed him. On the mound, he looked intimidating as ever and could back it up with his pitches but when the mic was in his face, he sounded like teenage boy.
  19. I love Donaldson's game and he clearly is quite awesome but Alomar was one of a kind, played 2nd base, mostly hit 2nd in the order and was a switch hitter. 20. I guess I am just chapped that since AA took over there has been 3 first round picks that didn't sign with the Jays and re-entered the draft; two of them taken by the Giants and are decent prospects and the other one is James Paxton! I know that teams get compensated with draft picks for not being able to sign their picks but I hang that on AA for not getting the deals done. Why the heck would draft a guy without at least knowing his intentions when it comes to signing.
